Ever in a gang?  JK but it brought me back to my days living in Flint, MI.

Strangely, I'm not a fan of red either.  Even worse is purple.

Hate red also. Once ran out of clean shirts and had to wear a red polo shirt. 2 strangers we were paired with kept calling me “Coach” since I kinda look like Nick Saban and red is Alabama color. Didn’t really enjoy that round.

Yes.

I refuse to pay for anything new LMAO

And I refuse to pay more than $50 for any graphite driver shaft LMAO so I dig through the used bins and find one that works in an old head and buy the club, pull the shaft if I need to and sell the head that I won’t be using if that’s how I get the shaft LMAO

I also don’t buy any new irons, it’s always 4 or 5 years older in decent shape from the used market LMAO

My putter is 11 years old LMAO

The only new ones I might buy are wedges just to get some fresh grooves

lmao

Get outta' my head!!! So much winning here. I'll take last year's model for 40% off please. And used bin hunting for premium shafts is my love language, lol

Grips: Midsize plus 3 wraps (been doing it for almost 10 years, got up to midsize plus 6 wraps at one point); standard grips feel so weird, I hate demoing clubs at this point cause of it

Irons: I play .25 inch intervals and 3* upright (PW 36.25" and 4 iron 37.75"); I also play irons that are over 10 years old, I could get a new set, but will probably keep the same length and lie

Wedges: all of my wedges are 36 inches and 3* upright

Ball: I don't notice any real difference from a ProV1 to ProV1x ... I honestly play both, tournament though I am playing the x

Wedges MUST look good to my eye or they will not make it in the bag, this includes the PW of my iron set. In fact, it is the PW that really determines if I am going to put a set of irons in play. They need to be small, compact, and tapper fairly quicly to the hosel. If the heel of the wedge is tall, it's a no go. Love the look of my Bridgestone J15df PW and the mizzy T22 wedges.

This.

I cant stand it not tapering quickly to the hosel otherwise the wedge looks huge and ugly.  Mizzy has always done a good job with this. Vokey and TM is a no go for me.  Callaway is ok.

I used to mark my golf ball with a dot next to the ball number in whatever color sharpie was available. A few years ago, I found that I had my best rounds if I used a blue sharpie and the dots were diametrically opposite on the right side of the number. That’s all I will use when marking my golf balls. A blue dot to the right of the golf ball number for perfect balance with color. 🤣🤣🤣

No gang affiliation and also hate the color gold. Love purple though, my putter is purple nowadays.

Not sure if it’s quirky, but I prefer clubs that are longer heel to toe, don’t like chrome, and can’t do deep faced fwy woods.

You need to learn to conquer your anxiety and not crap yourself on the 1st tee every round.

Hey now, I've gotten better at calming the nerves on the 1st tee box over the years.  I threw up twice before my high school matches.  That was a sight to behold........

He said he never used yellow tee's because it was the color of cowardice. Don't think it extends to yellow golf balls, that just signifies you got a deal at Target.

It was a fun article.  Really insightful.

The part where he admits that he wasn't a great dad to his first four kids because he wasn't there, but if he had been, he would've been an average golfer, was amazing.  Got dusty in the room.  The more I learn about this game, the more I really admire Bruce Lietzke (RIP)...

I have to have perfectly clean clubs. I can’t use a club with a ball mark on it.
I wipe my clubs down after every shot.

I wipe down my clubs after every shot as well.  It's especially vital after an approach shot with irons.  Dirt in the grooves can affect spin.  It's the OCD in us.

I've always changed irons as often as most people change their socks.  Sadly, a few months ago I got a set that are perfect for my swing.  Now, I'm having withdrawals from not buying clubs.

If it helps I'll let you buy me clubs instead.  😉

My irons has to be ONE piece cavity back but not blade. No badge/sticker plates, no small gaps, no screws etc etc. So any sort of crevice, even the tiniest of cranny that can trap dirt or water is a no.
