Will Zalatoris switches to a L.A.B. Mezz.1 Max Broomstick Putter

Lucas Glover, Adam Scott, now Zalatoris. Granted, Will switched to keep his back more comfortable. 
 

Hope it works for him! He got streaky with his putter in the past.

Awesome.  I'll be honest, thats exactly how I was when I switched to side saddle.  I needed an entirely different putting approach and its gone from a complete liability to a strength just because its different.

 

The arm-lock isn't enough of a "shock to the system" so I'm not surprised he's seen a more notable improvement.  I hope the best for Willy Z, I always loved watching him swing the club but always was anxious when he had a putter in his hand, so hopefully this just eases that anxiety lol.

L.A.B. has got to be loving all of this good press lately. I think its better that they have "poor" putters switching and doing well than it would if they had some even bigger names use them. Will be interesting to see how Will looks over the short ones in competition with this one. If he could actually gain strokes on the green? Holy cow...

yeah if Scottie scheffler got one it would probably be valuable like those odyssey jailbirds this past summer

His stroke was so bad he could have tried an *actual* broomstick.

 

I'll believe it when I see it. Will wait for the close up shots of a two footer on Sunday.

Thats what I was thinking.  The LAB putters must be something really special.

I can relate to the back issues and putting. that is why I switched to a broomstick. Another thing most do not realize if they do not have Back issues. Depending on what is going on it can affect the nerves in your hands. At least with me it did. Back issues are so unpredictable and I would not wish back problems on anyone. Hope all the best in the world for him

Saw that Scottie has went in the exact opposite direction. Is playing a Logan Olson putter in the Hero this week. Will be interesting to keep tabs on that as well.

For me, I bought a stock one to try out and then ordered custom when I decided to commit to LAB

There's a clip of him putting with it and his stroke looks really smooth without that weird stuttering swing. I hope his overall swing is improved to protect his back. As others mentioned, if this helps his putting, then I hope to see him back in contention very quickly.

This. I think that is the most important thing with these LAB putters. I bought a broomstick and a regular one and sold both because I realized I'd need a fitting to find the right setup in these. Great sticks.

Saw that myself. I can tell you from experience anything you do wrong with a broomstick will exaggerate things with a push or pull. Seems to me that he is a little bent over too with it. I do not know the specifics of his back injury but I do know he bends over more than I do.

Its exactly this. I'd say I am sure he will get this fixed but...I thought he'd get his old stroke fixed eventually too and that never happened.

Its exactly this. I'd say I am sure he will get this fixed but...I thought he'd get his old stroke fixed eventually too and that never happened. 

I saw the reruns this morning and he was letting the hands take over which IMHO is the worse thing to do with a broomstick. Just let the hands relax and hold the club and let the shoulders do the work with the broomstick. At times with the permanent nerve damage in my back I tend to do the same thing. This may sound funny but I do not feel myself do it but see the results and know what I did wrong. Trust me on this if you pull a putt like 1" with a conventual putter you will pull it 2" or more with a broomstick same with a push. I do not know how tall Will is but I am 6'2" and use a 42" broomstick at 79* lie and putt darn near straight up with my stance. I also noticed Will has his lower grip lower than mine are set up and has his right hand lower than I do. But then again his arms seem longer than mine. I putted with the Broomstick briefly in like 09 just because I wanted to. I had to go to it after 2020 to be able to play golf pain free. I have had to practice and play a lot to get used to it and gain confidence. I think with time he will adjust and get used to it as talented as he is

His stroke on longer putts with his old putter was fine.  It was the short putts that gave him issues.   If the broomstick didn't fix those, then I don't see how it sticks around.

 

 

Even with the short ones, with the old putter, he figured out how to get by, even with the loopy, yippy looking stroke.

I think it’s a great putter and have recently switched to a Mezz Max broomstick putter. Watching Pros like Lucas, Adam Scott, etc certainly caught my attention, but a deeper dive into reviews and comments by “the common man” is what convinced me to give it a try. I’m getting more comfortable with the technique every day, and am convinced that I will be a much better putter in the future. If I was putting well I wouldn’t have thought about trying something this drastic, but Nader the circumstances I’m glad I did!

Wow. I just saw his stroke on a short one on the Hero coverage and its just as bad on the short ones with the broomstick as it was with the armlock. I don't even know how he was able to start and stop a broomstick three times on a one-foot putt but he did. I may have some PTSD from watching that.
