Pretty sure nobody was following Tiger in HS when he won the US Junior Amateur 3 consecutive years at ages 15-17.  Clearly was not an indicator of greatness to come.

/sarcasm

Joking aside, I get your point.  My comment was simply that you can look at a HS golfers results to determine how good they are at the current time which isn't as easy for prospects involved with team sports (basketball and football).  This is due to team dynamics, playing time, and coaching decisions that factor into results and stats that go on paper.

Another example similar to golf is swimming.  You can absolutely evaluate a HS swimmer based on their results.  You don't need a media member's opinion to tell you that a 15 year old's XX:XX time in the 100m free projects them to be a future Olympic swimmer or not if you just compare results on paper.

Charlie Woods won't be able to hide from his 86 today, or any other published result from tournaments he plays in going forward just because a media member wants to hype him up.

Actually Tiger was a well known entity in golf circles and especially SoCal from age 10 on. I grew up in OC and most serious golfer knew who he was and he won everything at Charlie’s age

sorry to be that guy that needs to explain the definition of sarcasm...

was your sarcasm meant to indicate tiger's scorecards needed to be viewed for signs of greatness or that tiger woods had people viewing his scorecards for signs of greatness. people reviewed tigers highschool scorecards not because they were great and thus a sign of greatness they reviewed his scorecards cause they were expecting them to be great due to the signs of greatness that had already been shown.

Being critical of a 15yo just feels wrong to me. Perhaps SM just isn’t the right fit for me 🤷🏼‍♂️

I'm with ya.... but daddy has put him up in the limelight.

That said, Tiger knew that Charlie had no hope. It was more about exposure to the real thing.

You can't knock experience.

during TW last year of playing the US Jr Amateur, the local qualifier was held at Rio Bravo CC in Bakersfield in 100 dg heat, I caddied for a friend of mine who made it to the final stage as he shot -1 for two rounds, but I remember vividly that TW drove up fresh from winning the North and South Amateur, shoelaces untied and shot 65 in the first round and I heard he didnt even break a sweat. it was so hot the afternoon round you could feel the heat come up thru your shoes, someone gave me a cool gallon of water after the round and i had a few sips and poured the rest on my head to cool off

Tiger put Charlie in this position, Charlie even at 15 has shown that he does in fact love the camera and exposure. I play golf with a 13yr old who is ranked nationally who loves to trash talk and have a good time, yet his dad protects him, just the other day he was complaining because his mom had limited his social media time on his phone. Remember Tiger still has the stigma of being a serial adulterer and is trying to rebrand his image as a family man.....but it may be to the detriment of Charlie. Time will tell.

Tiger would not have had to local qualify for the US Jr Am that year.

nah, call me a hater, jealous, or whatever- I'm not a Tiger fan, I'm not a Rory fan, i can't stand the media coddling of anyone no matter who it is. I call it like i see it. Charlie isn't as good as he's hyped and he's earned nothing. I was raised that I had to earn everything, i teach my kids the same. That doesn't make me jealous, but I just want to see kids earn the spotlight and not have it shined on them and then the media create the narrative that isn't true.

entertainment often doesnt match up with most peoples ideals on how you earn something.

Not sure what rock you have been living under but the World is a different place since you were a kid.....

Charlie Woods has no choice, he will always be in the spotlight. Like I said in an earlier post, being a child of Tiger Woods is a blessing and a curse

you are right he has no choice of being in the spotlight, he does however have a choice of how he acts/reacts to the spotlight......all appearances are that he's got some tendencies that his dad does.

In regards to the last part of your post, I've just decided to become more active on here, I've posted on different message boards for years in fact i used to manage one of my own. It's a medium to express my opinion, I see nothing wrong with that.

Correct, and based on you comments on how you were brought up I'm sure you have some of you parents tendencies and your kids will have some of yours.

Let it go, I don't like Tiger either but Charlie has every right to play golf just like you or I.

WRX was giving him more attention than the media based on this thread that is already at 4 pages and counting....people here were making him a prodigy...he is clearly not a prodigy... seems like every Tour player from the 70's-present that has a kid has exceptional athletes, because their kids start at country clubs and have great instruction from Day 1, Look at the Korda sisters, heck Mark Lye has a daughter who is an AJGA All American

I got no problem with him playing golf or him even playing in this event, but I do not like the narrative that is driven about him and the fact that he tries to play into that same narrative.
