Its absolutely not.

And even if it were, it would be the first time in the history of golf forums that numbers were exaggerated to make a point.

63% of all statistics are made up

Charlie isn't the only young amateur playing. Miles Russell (15) and Cameron Kuchar (17) are also in a pre-qualifier.

I'm excited to see what Miles shoots.  Everyone keeps saying about Charlie "he's only 15", but this Miles kid is the same age and is head and shoulders above him.

"Compete" might be strong word.

Too many golfers willing to spend the money to say they played.

Charlie is to golf what Bronny James is to basketball, The media is making him out to be WAY better than he actually is.

Call me a hater or whatever, I'm not a tinfoil hat type of person but I know when the media is inflating stats like driving distance to push a narrative. Charlie isn't averaging 275 just like tiger isn't moving the ball at 180mph.....

The biggest difference is that Charlie cannot hide from the actual results on paper given golf is an individual sport where your ranking against your competition is clear cut.  Media can continue to hype Bronny as the number whatever best prospect in college because evaluation of a basketball player has a layer of subjectivity that can go beyond statistics, team wins, or titles.  Media can always spin Bronny's current results with USC based on the overall talent on the team, how the coach is using him, etc.  With golf, it's just you, and the score you log down after the 18th hole is a complete reflection of how you performed.

Most of the general public's view of Charlie Woods is from the PNC championships he's played in with his dad.  As Charlie's individual tournament results become more public, as with the results of this qualifier, casual viewers will be able to form their own opinions without needing as much touting from the media.

While having the best golf genetics doesn't get you on the PGAT, I'll take a bet Charlie will one day win on the PGAT.  That being said, this looks a bit early.  Am I missing something?  He didn't even crack top 10 in Notah's junior tournament.

Ill sell that bet all day.. he wont win in college or pga

do people really look at high school score cards as signs of greatness though?

99% of guys who entered and 100% of guys in this thread would have WD after that 12.

I disagree. It was a foregone conclusion, short of a compound fracture, that he finish. The Woods’ are, if nothing, brand conscious. He plays bad and it’s a learning experience and developmental test. He withdraws and he’s a snivelling quitter.
Now, his father; that’s a different story but the dad has built in leeway.

" No I'm not Grandpa, I'm playing tennis."
"No, you're playing golf and you're going to like it."

Tough day. He’s not even the best player on his high school team.

Big shoes to fill, just like Gary Nicklaus, Dru Love, Sam Saunders and others

Pretty sure nobody was following Tiger in HS when he won the US Junior Amateur 3 consecutive years at ages 15-17.  Clearly was not an indicator of greatness to come.

/sarcasm

Joking aside, I get your point.  My comment was simply that you can look at a HS golfers results to determine how good they are at the current time which isn't as easy for prospects involved with team sports (basketball and football).  This is due to team dynamics, playing time, and coaching decisions that factor into results and stats that go on paper.

Another example similar to golf is swimming.  You can absolutely evaluate a HS swimmer based on their results.  You don't need a media member's opinion to tell you that a 15 year old's XX:XX time in the 100m free projects them to be a future Olympic swimmer or not if you just compare results on paper.

Charlie Woods won't be able to hide from his 86 today, or any other published result from tournaments he plays in going forward just because a media member wants to hype him up.

I watched TW in high school play against friends of mine, two who played major college golf and one played the Korn Ferry with occasional glimpses on the PGA Tour, but TW was a man playing against boys, and he was still a boy himself, he was always the medalist and it was always fun to see how low he would go on the nine hole matches
