Tiger Woods Accepts Exemption To United States Open Championship At Pinehurst

Jack Nicklaus 1998 Masters & Tom Watson 2009 Open are good reasons why you never count out the best of their generations.  Tiger doesn't tee it up unless he thinks he can win.  Imo he still can and so do millions of others.

Don't have a problem with the exemption.

...millions ? Ya..... we're going to need a reality check here bro.

About that " doesn't tee it up unless he thinks he can win" stuff, he tee's it up when the PGA needs him to and his body cooperates.

Well deserved! Just throwing it out their but Tiger finished T3 in 1999 and 2nd in 2005 at Pinehurst

There are posters here who weren’t born yet when that happened.

Yeah and doesn't matter where he's finished in any tournament, even those he won, if Scottie is in the field winning at -15, even as a massive Tiger fan he's not getting close to that score at this stage of his life.

Gooch is the best player on the 54League. No invite is totally disrespectful....🤣

lol....i believe he will go to qualifier for The Open. Has no interest in the other two. Would like an invite to the Masters, but knows that's not happening..so life moves on. He's chilled.

They can do what they want, don’t really care, but it seems the business needs to wean itself off of Woods.

On second thought, I do care a little, he’s a distraction and his presence will take away from the event for the first two days.  It’ll be even worse if he makes the cut.  I doubt any of the others were more than passing nods to former greatness when given exemptions, whereas Woods will still take all the air out of the room.

If he wins…I will be duly humbled.  But the fact that give any consideration to the chance he might win is why he shouldn’t have been invited.

Plenty of other players in the field who will only ever be there to make up the numbers.

Agreed. I think he hangs it up if he ever gets 83 (99% sure it’s not happening)

my brother is a board certified pain management MD and listened to TW say his team will have him ready, and he thinks that probably includes, a cortisone injection , and probably a couple of Motrin's, just to get him up and going

im not sure how they can refer to it as a national open when they hand out so many exemptions.

I tried rearranging your screen name letters and I still couldn't get Gooch out of it.  Even through a cipher.  Weird.

Let us see:

- It's the US Open, so there is that.

- It's in the US.

- Run by the National Governing Body

- Anyone with a proper handicap can attempt to qualify and therefore an open event.

- They even let LIV players play.

I love how some guys can't break 90, yet they feel they're an authority on whether or not Tiger Woods/the greatest player ever should get a US Open exemption.

Golf is all about history and legends.  Tiger has made history and is a legend - and he is still able to be out there for a bit longer.  Try to enjoy watching a legend (and arguably the best player to ever have played the game) grind it out just a bit longer trying to get just one more W.

But...but...but he's just a washed up has been who should move aside.  Such a dense and miserable take.  Just wait until you are 50 and chasing your 25 year old self.  It might be a race that can't be won, but it's a race that is worth running to find out.

He's a draw, actually he's THE draw & will generate massive interest & attention any time he plays as long as he plays...

Yeah looks miserable 🤣

Doesn't change how he looks on the course or how he is behind closed doors. There's no way that smile is there when he takes off his leg sleeve and sees what he needlessly cost himself with that crash.

There's no feeling sorry for a billionaire, but it is indeed sad to see what he did to himself for no gain other than the "thrill" of driving a top heavy SUV through the hills at over 90 mph. Has to be one of the most self-sabotaging moves in all of sport.

I'm OK with the exemption.  I seriously doubt he will finish dead last.

Ur not wrong and almost hate to bring the mud into the golf talk as for me this site is mostly an escape/entertainment (like sports). But it was literally just dumb luck that it was a “nothing to see here” incident as opposed to a what happened to Henry Ruggs III incident 😳
