Vokey 60 degree wedge with K Star grind - 2024 the Memorial Tournament

Recommended Posts

  • pga43 changed the title to Vokey 60 degree wedge with K Star grind - 2024 the Memorial Tournament

This looks so much like the K NA grind, although he's slightly modified it over the years.

Both JT and Rory have used this modified K-Grind in the past.

First thing I thought, Aaron Dill must have gotten sick of grinding them for JT.

That worn leading edge is a great feature. It's on my Epon irons.

How often does that leading edge come on retail sets of irons nowadays?

Thanks for the pics, like always.

I imagine we will see a limited release at some point. Would love to try it.

Though much is taken much abides;
We are not now that strength which in old days
Moved earth and heaven, that which we are, we are;
One equal temper of heroic hearts,
Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will
To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield.

I’ve ordered this from wedge works (cost a fortune) as you get the Low Bounce K and then add on the hand ground options to select leading/trailing edge but in the comments I just said “please copy the Justin Thomas K grind”.

maybe this one will be slightly cheaper since it doesn’t require the handground upcharge 😂

How did/do you like it?

This is what Callaway does on their Jaws Raw.  Campfer they call it.  And you don't have to pay extra for it.

I’ve spent more money than i’d like to know on wedgeworks and agree with your sentiment on added cost (for a relatively simple grind).

I think Callaway would have a hard time selling their campfer wedge at extra charge though, and if they could they probably would (all speculation!)

To me people make too much out of a wedge being “better” or not. Pros use vokey because they’ve been using them for ever. They are accustomed to the look of the club.  In no way are they“better”.  There is minimal technology that goes into a wedge.  Personally I’ve been using Cleveland-designed wedges since the 588 as a kid. I prefer the look.

I like the campfer. It works for me and I’ll take my Callaways all day long over a Vokey, which I’ve tried.  I’m not going to hate on Vokey too much but the idea that “other companies would gouge the public if they could” isn’t a great defense. I understand charging more for a custom grind but the up charge for raw is not defensible.  And since I like the sole grind that comes stock in the Callaway I’ll stick with those. They decided that since the grind works they are going to make it available stock. It’s not like they said “hey let’s release a wedge and make campfer a special custom option!  Oh no. That wouldn’t work because nobody would buy it. I guess we will make it standard then.”

Sorry I wasn’t trying to say Vokey actually performed better or was a better wedge. World class players use and succeed with all the top OEMs (Cally/Cleveland/Ping/PXG/etc).

My point was that branding/tour presence of Vokey allows them to charge more for hand ground options that aren't part of their main line - and that due to Callaway wedges (although performing wonderfully!) not having the same “mystique” or top spot on tour (vokey is in many non Titleist contracted players bags) - Callaway would struggle to have success with that upcharge model - again speculation on my part.

tl;dr - I don’t think Callaway should get “kudos” for not charging more for the specific grind that Vokey IS charging for - because I bet Callaway would if they could.

Seems like a low bounce K is not even an option on WedgeWorks

Yes it is, under WedgeWorks limited edition wedges. It has item# WM165.

      Early in hand photos of the new GT2 models t the truck.  As soon as they show up on the range in player's bags we'll get some better from the top photos and hopefully some comparison photos against the last model.
