Typical 7,400yds PGA course : "boring, it's a birdie fest at -24! Can't they set it up to test these guys?"

Extreme setup, 530yds par4s, 13-14ish stimp, on turtlebacks : "boring, that's not golf just playing cautious, can't they reward gutsy, great shots?"

Let's make it 8,200yds for those casual 380yds drives and 220yds 7iron approaches : "no, no, that's not how golf was supposed to be played!"

Let's roll back the ball so they don't hit it a mile while missing it on the toe : "are you out of your mind, I want them to play the same equipment as I do when shooting 94 at 6,100yds, to see how we compare!" ...

Maybe as an amateur don't base your enjoyment in golf entirely on what the scorecard says? For God's sake even Tyrrell Hatton couldn't muster up something bad to say about the course today and the guy trashed Augusta.

Watching these greens make the best in the world look foolish, I wonder why regular golfers pay big money to play this course?

If you didn’t want to roll the ball back, couldn’t they set up a course to where after 280 yards, the fairways pinched in about 10 yards wide, or ended altogether, and at that point make the rough about 8 inches deep. That would force players to lay back and hit long irons into the greens….

I would never plan a guys golf trip up to play those courses. Give me the lush green courses to have an enjoyable time.

We did. As I’ve written elsewhere, after the first round we all asked the organizer if we really had to play it two more times. By the last we were all loving it. Not killing it, but enjoying the challenge. 
 

plus we played the other ones at the main resort and I think either or both Mid Pines and Pine Needles.

I love a birdie fest.  Much more fun than watching the best golfers in the world putt off the green.

As of right now the projected cutline showing on the online leaderboard is +5, but that includes all players T72. I'm confused--isn't the cut top 60 and ties? That to me means all players currently T59 and better, which is 71 players.

Yes.  I do lots of golf trips.  One time a member of my group suggested we go to Pinehurst.  I nixed that idea immediately.

You guys want to carry 4 wedges..lol... you're going to use them...

This course has no water, but the greens have to be respected on how to enter the scoring zone...thinking now enters the game...

Now, here's your yardage book...off you go and enjoy.

They are "projecting"...which means they are taking an educated guess based on how play is developing throughout the day. Yes, cut is top 60 and ties. It is confusing, I agree.

But all the fields looks the same, every game has 3 bases and a home plate, pitchers keep throwing the same pitch.  And why can't you run even if the outfielder catches it?!  Such a boring game.

IMO the most boring US Opens were at Erin Hills winner at -16 and LACC last year at -10 where players got to play bomb and gauge without the gauge lol.  But hey that's just me.
