Curious, anybody here consider joining the Golf Channel Am Tour for Cleveland or Cinci? Looks pretty intriguing... $200 to join and about $100 a tournament Looks like the schedule about 10-11 regional tournaments a year, but you can play in other regions and in national tournaments as well. Looks like they even let some pretty high handicappers play (which is good news for people like myself if I thought about doing it, haha).

Do you mean golf channel or golf week? There's a great golf week amateur. I joined in Columbus this year and played in my first event this past weekend. Very well run and they have great courses. Go to amatuergolftour.net. They have tours in Cincy and Cleveland as well

I was referring to the Golf Channel one that is supported by Golf Galaxy. I'll have to check out the other one, thanks!I think the actual link is http://www.amateurgolftour.net/index.htm in case others get confused like I did, haha.

They have the Cincy and Columbus tours, but I don't see a page for the Cleveland tour, unless I'm missing something (entirely possible).

LOL my bad dude... this is what I get for trying to make a post with info in it after a long day at work, while laying on the couch, trying to fend off answers from my Fiancee about music for the wedding... Speaking of which.. anyone got a good idea of songs to walk down the aisle too? Something fun for a nontraditional wedding? (had to at least try)

Here's what I know. The Golf Galaxy tour folded in Columbus because it was very poorly run. Apparently they had issues filling the tournaments and there were issues with paying the golf courses... from what I heard some courses got stiff all together. That doesn't mean all the tours are bad, just, the Columbus one from what I hear was very very very poorly mismanaged. Each tour will have a different tour director so that would greatly change things.

The Columbus GolfWeek tour is very well run, they got on some great private courses, and currently have nearly 200 members participating. I believe it is one of, if not the biggest tours in the country. Like I said before, I played in my first event this past weekend. The weekend before that I played a practice round with the co-director and another guy who helps out. Great guys, organized, knew their stuff, etc. I would recommend it to anyone who is looking to play in some pressures situations.

I did misspeak earlier. There is no Cleveland tour. There is a Columbus and a Cincy tour. In Columbus we get to hit many private courses (Scioto Reserve, Heritage, Hickory Hills, Wedgewood, Springfield CC, Lancaster CC, Kinsale, Riviera, etc.). Additionally we have rounds at some great public tracks (Longaberger, NAL, granville, etc.). The tournaments seem to all be between $80 and $100. That includes range balls, cart and I believe a little reception after the round. I didn't go to it this time since I had a dinner to be at but it looked fun.

I believe it was like $85 to join and with that membership you got a Bag Tag, Hat and subscription to GolfWeek magazine.

You can also play in other events on other tours and your points from those events will carry over to your local tour (for up to 3 events). Additionally at year end there is a National Championship in Hilton Head. I forget what it is to qualify but I think its top 10 in pts in your flights.

Thats what I know, hopefully its more accurate this time haha

Haha no worries. Good to know that I wasn't missing something. I think the Cleveland Golf Galaxy Am Tour in Cleveland has maybe 20-30 players total across six flights (all six flights are again split by regular and senior). It's tempting, but I think I'm going to hold on to my money and see about next year. Besides, more time to improve my game, haha. I can totally see how each tour is either good or bad based on whoever is running it. Maybe Golfweek will expand to Cleveland and give me some more options up here, haha. There are some local tours (Akron District Golf Association and Northeast Ohio Tour, whatever it's called...) but it kind of goes back to getting better. The one local tour up here caps off the season by having the best 20 players in each flight play three rounds at Firestone CC. One round on each course :drinks:. That would be a goal of mine, short term, haha.

On the other note, could always go Imperial March or some other Star Wars song. :man_in_love:

I am playing in Ohio Am qualifier at Canton Brookside on May 24th. Anyone else playing? Never played the course, but am really looking forward to it. Hoping to get a practice round in, but not sure if one is included with the tournament.

Anyone know a good caddy that knows the course?
Well, they actually are letting us take carts during the qualifier for $25. I am playing a practice round Sunday afternoon and will ask if they have any caddies available.

Played in a scramble on The Links at Echo Springs (located between Utica and Johnstown, OH...Northeast of Columbus, Northwest of Newark) with one of my golfing buddies and two of my Fraternity brothers.

Let me tell you, this is a very nice mostly links-style course with a relaxed environment. Very well maintained, but without the country club atmosphere.

My foursome shot 9 over par...10 bogeys and one birdie. But not bad for our first scramble, or at least in our minds, haha.

Doubled my money on two of the four par 3's, but couldn't take home the 2013 Chevy Malibu, TPC San Antonio trip, Callaway Razer X Driver, or Callaway Razer X Irons for holes in ones. Actually couldn't take home any of the "skill shot" prizes. Still had plenty of fun on a different course than I'm used to playing on.

The one thing I did learn though is that when you are nearly tripling the yardage you normally play, you tire out about the 9th hole, haha.

Where would you recommend playing in the Cincinnati area? I am moving there and thinking about getting a membership to Deer Run. It seems very reasonably priced but never played the course.
Deer Run is a polarizing course. Many like it, many hate it. You need to play it to decide for yourself. FWIW, I don't think they allow walking anymore.

What do you think about it? Also, what other public courses would you recommend? I think I am living in the Hyde Park area or right downtown by the ballpark so something that isn't too far of a drive. Thanks.

If you're in Hyde Park Deer Run is a long trip. 45 minutes minimum. Cut off about 10 minutes from downtown. I don't care for the course myself. Too many weird holes forced onto the landscape, because it was designed and built by a housing developer so he could sell homes on his new subdivision. From Hyde Park the closest courses are all private, and I'm not sure which public courses have memberships (I live on the northwest side of town, HP is east), but I'd look at Elks Run, Blue Ash, Twin Oaks in Northern Kentucky, or Legendary Run. Some city and county courses that don't sell memberships that are easy to get to from HP include The Vineyard, Sharon Woods, and to a lesser extent California.

If you're looking for people to play with let me know, I've been living in Hyde Park for about a year now and could always use some more golf buddies.

Blue Ash is my go to course during the week and if you're looking for a grass range near HP check out the one my Lunkin Airport.

Never been a fan of the course. It's long and has huge greens which are quick. That's what makes it difficult. Other than a couple of holes its a very boring layout. Just kind of keeps hitting you with 400+ yd par 4s. I try to get out there once a year and every time it just reminds why I'm not fan of the course. It also gets a ton of play and is always a 4:30+ round.

Simply put, its long, slow and boring.

Playing Roses Run in Stow for the first time today with a couple buddies. Haven't been playing well at all lately so hopefully I can turn it around and shoot well! Heard they have some looong Par 3's so I could be in trouble... :russian_roulette:

The narrowness of the 2nd green is hard to stick... Also 12 is the deal breaker of your back nine ha. I had a good round going then doubled 12. Couldn't recover

Finally broke into single digits! I played yesterday at Wilkshire Golf Course in Bolivar and shot an 82. Both 9's I was +2 after six holes and then just couldn't finish. Went 42-40 and both could've easily been in the 30's. Frustrated, but I'll take an 82. And the course was really nice too. I was very impressed. The staff was awesome and the conditions were great. Alot of fun holes and chances to make birdie.

Got 18 holes in today at my home course Arrowhead Golf Club. 42-39 for an 81(+11). I had two doubles on the front which kept me from breaking 80. All I have to do is stay away from doubles and I could regularly shoot in the high 70's. Really didn't play all that well but I knocked down putts when I had to and overall my short game was solid. My irons have just been killing me lately.

I was in Cincy this weekend and played Beckett Ridge GC while I was down there. Really nice course. I keep a list of all the courses I've played and I rank them from #1-35 in order of my favorite(nicest) to least favorite. I ranked it #6 on the list of 35 courses I've played. Couldn't beat the price either. #24 for 18 w/cart.

And since this is an Ohio thread...how 'bout them Kent State Golden Flashes going to the College World Series! Truly an amazing season that hopefully keeps getting better!

We each rank things differently based on our own experience and what we consider important about golf courses. That being said, I am very suprised you rank it so high. I live in CIncinnati and play it a few times a year. WHile I like it, I don't consider it any better than the local muni courses (Sharon Woods, Vineyard, The Mill, etc..). There are at least 9 courses in the general Cincinnati area alone I would rank higher (Stonelick, Lassing Pointe, Heatherwoode, Legendary Run, Walden Ponds, Aston Oaks, Elks Run, Blue Ash, Shaker Run). What did you like about it?

The conditions were awesome and the fact that I played well probably helped it's rating.

The rank seems pretty high but I haven't played many great courses. I've only played one of the Top 15 public courses in Ohio which is Little Mountain. Little Mountain, Deer Ridge, Maumee Bay, and two private clubs are the courses I have ranked above it.
