AbbVT24 -- I recently finished a bottle of it...it has a clean, crispness to it; it lacks a little of the complexity of say a blanton's...i enjoyed it and will likely have it again, but i do think it's a little pricey relative to the depth of flavors
I was standing there debating between it and blantons, and ultimately decided to go with trying something new. I look forward to trying it out soon. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

Just picked up some Weller's 12 y/o, Woodford's Double Oaked & Woodford's Master's Collection.

Tell you what, that Weller's 12 y/o- fantastic, very Pappy-like.

Tomorrow night I'm gonna try the others.

How have I missed this throughout the years!

I went on a search a couple years back for an alcohol of choice; Bourbon was the clear winner. Since then, I've amassed a good collection. I drink my Bourbon with an ice "sphere" 99% of the time. I need my Bourbon cold, which I know goes against a lot of people's preferrence and that small amount of water that comes off the ice "sphere" has a big impact. It does have the possibility to get too watered down, so I try and refill my bourbon more rather than putting a large amount in at once.

I'd put up Woodford against anything that I've tried. A perfect Bourbon in my opinion.

For an inexpensive Bourbon for the flask or hunting lodge, it's typically Buffalo Trace or Bulleit.

Wild Turkey is becoming more popular and mainstream and I enjoy the taste of it. Certainly not the gritty alcohol is has historically been portrayed as in past movies/shows.

Knob Creek never seems to have impressed me. I'm on my second bottle as I don't think giving anything one shake is fair.

Jim Beam Devil's Cut surprised me. Very smooth and sweet.

Highest end bourbon that is in my collection now is Jefferson’s Presidential Select 17 Year Old Bourbon. Extremely good Bourbon.

Other's that I can think of off the top of my head that I've had are Eagle Rare, Elijah Craig, Maker's, 1792 Ridgemont, Russell's Reserve, Old Forester, Kinnickinnic (WI Bourbon), and Bookers.

Now time to read thru other posts to identify the next victim.

GooseHook,

Never been much of a Bourbon drinker until this past month. My drinks of choice: Crown Royal, jin and tonic, a variety of scotch.

My mother bought me two bottles of Blanton's for my birthday in November. I have a few friends that I occasionally join for scotch tasting nights. We all pitch in $50 and purchase 'expensive' bottles of scotch that we wouldn't sample as a single. My Mother purchased one bottle to be sampled at my scotch night (she mistakenly thought I engaged in bourbon tasting) and one to be shared with her (we had never shared a drink and I am 35).

Absolutely love the taste of Blanton's bourbon and so do my scotch buddies (we shared a glass last night). We are set to have a bourbon tasting in a few weeks.

Thanks Mom

Well my local store who always saves me special released craft beers offered me a bottle of pappy 23 year yesterday. I love bourbon but never entertained pappy. So how much is the value of the bottle? I am used to paying a buck or two more for my craft beer for the convenience of never having to look but this is a little put my league.

Retail is around $250 and secondary value is about $1k. I had a 23 and I couldn't bring myself to open it knowing I could make that kind of money which in turn gives me $ to buy more bourbon. Vicious circle of good bourbon

Price will dictate a lot but a great starting point is Buffalo Trace. Very good for the money, $25 a bottle. If you want a little pricier I have heard Jeffersons birthday edition is phenomenal and about $50 a bottle. Its one of my next buys.

Ok this thread has me concerned.
One of the all time best bang for the buck bourbons is one I don't think anyone here has mentioned, ready Old Charter the 8 year old is fine, but it's the 10 or 12 that will get your attention.
Saying that my go to is Woodford reserve. Been wanting to try the, I believe it's called master distillers version of Woodford.
I like Bookers also, and Basil Hayden's, Four Roses I'll put up against old charter anyday.
Knob creek is too sweet for me.

If you don't mind dropping the coin for three bottles, grab a bottle of Buffalo Trace, a bottle of Four Roses Single Barrel and a bottle of Weller (12, if it's an option...) can't find weller? try Larceny or Maker's.

Those three pretty much run the gamut of bourbon. Four Roses is a great rye forward whiskey. BT is more in the middle, and Weller is a wheated bourbon that is much smoother.

Weller's 12 yo is the best bang for your buck out there.

Thanks for reminding me how fortunate I am- you gotta be real hard up to have to sell a bottle of Pappy's for the $. A real shame.

What, no love for Buffalo Trace?
My father in law enjoys bourbon and one of my Christmas gifts to him was a bottle of Buffalo Trace from a local store. The owner of the store went to the distillery and sampled several batches of BT. They found the batch they liked the most and bought the entire batch to be bottled and sold only at their store. It has a special label and everything.

My inlaws got me some bourbon related stuff for christmas. Got some of those whiskey stones to use instead of ice. They are pretty neat but since I do like a little water (usually from the ice melting a bit) I need to get used to adding a little water before hand. No biggie, I actually figure this is good as now my bourbon will have a consistent taste through the whiole glass.

They also got me some Bulleit 10 year and while I am not far into the bottle yet I must say so far it is very nice. Not too over powering, very smooth.

$750 profit turning around a bottle of bourbon? It's a hard thing for me to say no to. I don't "need" the money... I'd just rather spend the original $250 on other bottles and $750 on golf clubs.

Honestly, Pappy isn't the best bourbon there is. Plenty of other options out there... if you are willing to pay $1000 for a bottle, more power to you.

Blanton's is probably my favorite. Bulliet and Buffalo Trace are definitely excellent, budget friendly choices and honestly are as good as the higher priced bourbons in my opinion.

I just finished a bottle of Dickel Barrel Select that was mighty good for $35.

I've never had any of the Van Winkle's bourbon but I would love to try it.

Bought Wellers and Four Roses to add to my collection last weekend (based on the reviews in the thread). Finally had the time to try both. I would have to give my vote to Four Roses Small Batch compared to the Old Wellers Antique original 107. I'd like to give both a few more tastes before the final ruling, but I really enjoyed the Four Roses and the Wellers didn't do anything unique for me. I am still on the lookout for the Wellers 12 year and will definitely purchase more Four Roses offerings in the future.

I did also just get my Golf Digest from December with AP and Kate Upton on the cover (Subscription ran out and wife wanted to get it for me for Xmas) and I was surprised and excited to see a full page ad for Woodford.

I've never been a bourbon guy, but decided to give it a go. I wanted to try a wheaten, because it sounded good to me. I like some Canadian's with rye, but wanted to try a smoother bourbon. I didn't go expensive but everything I read said this stuff was good. I've never even had Makers Mark.

So its a nice cool evening tonight in Florida, so I am going to sit outside with a Arturo Fuente Hemingway and a bourbon on the rocks.

I'm just across the river from the Metro Detroit area and there are days (many lately) when I wish I was sipping a drink (bourbon, whiskey, scotch) on a 'cool' beach in Florida. That photo made me smile Agent Jim. You've spurred me to action. The Blanton's is going to hit a glass in a few moments.
