When I was in ninth grade I chugged half a bottle of Johnny Walker Red. If I even smell the stuff I still almost dry heave......and that was well over 3 decades ago.

It's my dad's 90th coming up. He's gonna get a bottle of Pappy's. Gave him a bottle of Booker's Anniversary for father's day.

Low end blend will do that to ya. Consider a fine smooth single malt to bring you back in slowly.

I see a lot of love for the big Stagg. Rightfully so. For the money, Blantons gold label is hard to beat though. Also, I haven't thumbed through the whole thread but I didn't see much love for Elmer T Lee. Highly underrated. Also buffalo trace is quite good for $23.

Slightly off topic.

I bought my dad a bottle of johnnie walker blue for his 70th birthday. We went away for the weekend, Atlantic city. Of course, he didn't want to to open it and try even though he never had it before.

Knowing this, I bought along a bottle of Blantons. We enjoyed it very much.

This was almost a three weeks ago and I spoke to him last night, still hasn't opened the Blue to try. LOL.

My friend who is a liquor snob and turned me onto some Blanton's the other day. That stuff is really good.

I've never been much of a drinker. But give me a bottle of that and a dingy blanket and I'll go be a homeless drunk. Deep into my third glass that's what I was envisioning.

The next day was black. Not bad with headaches or anything, I felt good just very calm and barely awake. The day might as well not have happened.

I dunno about Jeffersons Birthday but I did see that Old Foresters birthday has been released, not sure if it's on shelves yet though.

Side note, I've just about gotten through my bottle of Elijah Craig 12. It's ok but certainly not one of my favorites. I like it more in a manhattan then by itself.

Elijah Craig is okay, but for a few bucks less, why not Buffalo Trace or for a few more, Elmer T Lee?

Yeah I'm just kinda trying out the options in the less than $30 range.

One of my favorite things about bourbon, lots of good choices in that price range.

The grocery had it on sale for $37. Hell, that's $6 less than Total Wine and was hard to pass up.

Just found this thread somehow. Don't venture to the 19th hole often.

Maybe a shot in the dark here, but I live in PA with overpriced and not so great selection at the liquor store. We have one "good" shop in downtown Pittsburgh but still, it's overpriced. Always shocked at the selection and prices and "good" out of state stores.

So I work near East Liverpool, OH - does anyone know of a liquor store with great bourbon selection within say 50 miles of there? Google has not been helping me here...

WVP - check the state store at south hills village. It's a bigger store and usually has some really nice stuff. They always have my favorite (Four Roses Single Barrel). I grew up in KY, it took me a while to adjust to this whole "state store" thing.

Where exactly is that store? I'm right in the South Hills and am very familiar with the area, but can't recall a store near the mall at the moment.

I got a chance to try some Basil Hayden's a couple days ago. It wasn't bad but IMO it wasn't the greatest either. For the price it's not for me.

Also tried Widow Jane recently, and it was excellent.

Four Roses Single barrel private selection has been me go to all year - its barrel proof and is packed full of flavor. I have 8 of the 10 different recipes.

Yeah I'd say you got taken care of. WOW
