UPDATED VIDEO & PICS: Nike Covert Drivers, Woods & Irons

I am assuming that Tiger and Rory will play this driver. This takes a page right out of TM's playbook - you'll know exactly what driver they're swinging and no one get more air time during tournaments than Tiger and Rory, especially on weekends. They'll be able to market the crap out of this thing if those two are both using it.

the woods I will have to see - not a big fan of the swoosh visible at address... and those irons are brutal.... And whats the word with the cor on the fw-woods? With other manufacturers reaching .83 with their new offerings, these could be 20 yards shorter... guess I'll just need to see some feedback on numbers but disappointed to say the least

Hmmm. I can assure that they weren't obligated to do it immediately. But they were obligated to do it.

Not true at all. Obligated to play Nike, yes. A particular model, no. Will there be some internal pressure? Of course. But contractually, they can take all the time they need. Like Glover with the Square

earlier someone mentioned they threw up when they saw this.........i think Nike just threw up on every other manufacturer and kicked them in the nuts at the same time - must have been lots of overtime at the oven this past year; Nike kept it relatively silent too. just tons and tons of technology released to us last night - be interesting to see how the other companies respond. a new benchmark has been established.

I don't know if I would go quite that far LOL

The players should dress up as ninjas like Snake eyes or Storm Shadow and play these to take the "Covert" theme even further!

I'm surprised he hasn't already got one, pulled it apart, filled it with cotton and thrown a steel shaft into it.

For years - companies have impressed on us the importance of getting the weight back and low, with the introduction of super thin crowns and base plates and weight ports near the back of the base of the club.

Now this driver seems to turn this theory on it's head. I'll be interested to see how it looks and performs in the "flesh". It's obviously quite a departure from conventional thinking.

I'm most interested in the hosel technology and would like to see exactly how it it works and is different to the sure fit etc. That's a lot of adjustment for one head shape.

surveyed the house (me and two 10 index juniors)

me: great idea, finally cavity back drivers to match my irons! looks very good...will definitely look at the numbers on trackman for all 3 of us :)

junior1: looks stupid! but the black face with red head looks cool, the swoosh just looks stupid

junior2: looks weird

the question I had was about the fairway wood, with the loft changing from 13* to 17*, won't this: 1) heavily influence how the sole interacts with the turf? 2) heavily influence the trajectory of the shot (delofting the club will bring the sole away from the turf)

Last, I get a chuckle at all the comments directed at TM as I normally do. This is a NIke thread yet there was much reference to how TM is now in trouble and shaking in their boots. First, why even mention TM? Second, their not shaking in their boots.
I think it is a testament to the dominance of TM. They set out 15 years ago to be number one in every segment, and they have come close to achieving that everywhere except the ball market.

That said, if you don't think that TM is taking notice, then you are mistaken. Nike is the one, above all others, that have the worldwide brand recongnition that could take a significant bite out of TM's market share. Further, and maybe most importantly, they have the resources to grow at a pace that most other manufactures simply cannot match.

It is easy to forget where TM was when Adidas purchased them.

Lets not forget that Nike has HAD "worldwide brand recongnition" for a long, long time. The golf division is just that, a division for a large company.

All OEM's take notice of all other OEM's new items and they should because that is their competition is it not? As Pete Carroll says, "competition drives competition" and that's a good thing.

My "shaking in their boots" reference has nothing to do with my own personal thoughts, and everything to do with those post that referenced that TM is now in trouble and how they were not first to introduce a certain technology and that the sky will fall on the almighty TM.

I'm really hoping he meant none of the above. Small divots with fairways and slightly larger with hybrids, but unless the course is sopping wet I'm hoping nobody takes chunks of earth large enough to clog the cavity...

Only time a cavity gets full of dirt is when i slam my 4 iron toe first into the ground...

Yes that's why it is red and clearly that's the reason the Nike swoosh is on the driver as well. So that even if they see another red driver, ppl know for sure that it is nike. Trust they will sell.
