I could see myself gaming this but the tech doesn't make any sense. i mean they just inverted the back of the sole, so how does that save weight? they are most likely only talking about a gram or less, which is insignificant. And changing face angle at address ALWAYS changes loft at impact, or vise versa.

altogther the look is better than I expected when it leaked that it was going to be red.

You're making a lot of speculation about years of R & D.

Covert is right, it would be only under the cover of darkness that I'd play with these abominations.

Is it too late for Rory to back out of his Nike deal? You'd have to give me $250 million to play play these bloody things. The Nike Swoosh on the top of them is the least of their problems....

NIKE used current technology and improved it with radical cavity design.February will be here soon enough for all of us to swing it and give our thoughts. Until then, shall we not pass judgment and enjoy pics?

Red looks much better than white. Also on the positive side, it wont get as dirty as the white does. I don't get all teh fuss about the swoosh on the heel, if you don't like it just remove it, if you don't like red...paint it, if you don't like Nike than leave the thread alone. Some people don't like reading 4 pages saying I would never play this driver when YOU HAVE NEVER EVEN HIT IT. I will wait till I have one in my hands to make my call.

The cavity technology is proven. :fie:

I remember a WRXer years ago that was proud of his Mac Burrows driver because he picked it up used with a matte blue Diamana in it.

As I said back on the 7th page, the technology here acutally excites me enough that I may have to try it. I really want to see how the fairways and hybrids interact with the turf given their smaller sole width.

I have mixed thoughts on these, do I think the Nike swoosh is distracting at address, YES do I think the hole or "cavity bottom" is gross YES but aside from that do I think it's a nice club YES.

I disagree. I don't even see the alignment aid on my driver while playing. Don't get me wrong, I'm conscious of it, I just don't "see" it if you know what I mean. My opinion is that after 15-20 swings with these clubs you'll never notice it again.

I've hit the VrS Covert Tour and Performance drivers along with the TM R11s and Titleist 910 D3. All stock OEM setup with a stiff shaft, 10.5 loft or set to 10.5 loft and face angle set in the most neutral position. Hit six shots with each driver, launch numbers captured with TrackMan and good weather during the session.

I don't hit the ball hard, club speed in the 94-95 mph range; ball speed 142-143 mph, but fairly consistent contact with Smash Factor usually at 1.49 or 1.5.

For me the Covert Performance was 7-10 yards longer than the R11s and 910; it was longer than the Covert Tour as well. The Covert Tour is a low launch and low spin head; not a good combination for my low swing/ball speed. The Covert Tour was the shortest carry distance of the four drivers however both of the VrS Covert drivers produced better ball speed than the TM or Titleist.

I have my TrackMan numbers somewhere; I'll find them post a summary of the 6 shot averages. 7-10 yards longer is huge for me since I don't hit it very far to begin with. This driver for sure will be in my bag.

I like the red color so that is a non-issue, the white Swoosh on the heel is not distracting and Nike got the sound right on both of these heads. The feel.........very solid. When you get the opportunity to give these Covert a try I think you'll like the performance.
Below are the TrackMan numbers for when I hit these clubs. I thought I hit most of the shots in a "neutral" setup but the loft and position is shown for each club. I have no idea what the Titleist positions equate to without looking at their settings chart. I like to use TrackMan to validate what I think I'm seeing during ball flight. I generally have a pretty good idea as to launch angle and spin but it is sometimes difficult to see carry distance and judge ball speed. You'd think I could see a ball land at 220 yards but I have old tired eyes........ :stink: Oh, all shots were with range balls in pretty good condition.

A lot of the TrackMan numbers aren't important to me; ball speed, launch angle, spin rate, smash factor and carry distance are what I generally look at. Sometimes there is just too much information...........

The clubs were hit in the order as listed. I remember when I hit the R11s the 12 shots were hit really good (for me anyhow) and when I looked up the ball was exactly in the "window" that I expected. I really didn't think that the other clubs would be anywhere close. When I hit the first shot with the Covert Performance I was somewhat shocked, sound and feel were terrific; again looking up the ball was exactly in my shot window and I knew it was pretty long. All 12 shots with the Covert Performance were very good. The Titleist 910 was good as well but at the time I didn't think as good as the R11s or Covert. The Covert Tour was also very good but was low in my shot window and I could tell the spin was pretty low; certainly didn't max out my carry. It did have great feel and sound.

I hit the Covert Tour again today with a softer shaft, the VTS 6R Silver and set at 11.5 loft. I've got to get on a TrackMan and take a look at the numbers. Sound and feel were excellent, the ball seemed to be going a long ways, it is absolutely jumping off the face. Very bright sun here today, again the red head and Swoosh at the back of the hosel/heel are not going to be an issue for most players. Fifteen balls with this club and you won't give them a second thought.

I'm using the Vr Tour Driver now and hitting it 290, can't wait to get my hands on this club in Feb....Somebody call Golf Digest cause this one is going on the (GOLD) Hot list!!!

Sound and feel is so subjective but I can tell you this. Nike drivers the last 3 or 4 years have had somewhat of a metallic sound to them, these two new Covert drivers do not; Nike got the sound on these right. To me, they sound like a driver should. Hopefully there will be some in play this weekend that will get some TV time.
