Been revisiting Johnny Cash's American Recordings series of late. Masterful work by an American institution. Cash had a way of taking someone else's song and absolutely owning it. I liked Petty's original, this is better:

Raul Malo has just a great voice. I'd encourage you to listen to his solo work. To me, he is similar to the late, great Lowell George. Different music, but the same commanding presence and gifted voice backed by great musicians.

Isbell will be here next week, pretty stoked to see him. I've been a big fan since his DBT days. Wish the whole band was coming.

 

Anybody who's never heard Randall Bramblett throw him into your rotation. The older stuff is better IMO, No More Mr. Lucky as I already recommended and Thin Places are the best two albums.

 

Had some old Ryan Adams Gold in the rotation lately and my wife's been listening to a lot of reggae. Michael Franti and some old roots stuff like Toots and the Maytalls.

Big fan of Both NIN and Cash there are only a handful of covers I enjoy as much as the original Cash's Hurt is at the top of that list. Beautiful rendition of an already great song.

 

 

Currently bounce back and forth between my country list on amazon prime music a mix of Stapleton, Sturgil, Brothers Osborne, Ledoux, some Strait, Cody Jinks, Jamey Johnson, Luke Combs, Cash, Yokam a few Dierks and Justin Moore tunes. My other one is my reggae ska whatever you want to call the genre. I just call it beach music. Slightly Stoopid, Rebullution, Stick Figure, Pepper, Tribal Seeds, Konu, Simplified, Toots and the Maytals, Eek A Mouse etc etc.
