Played around with one at Golfsmith yesterday. Looks awesome at address. I owned a super hybrid last year and the weight on the bottom came loose and I would have to tighten it every so often as it would rattle. There was also a gob of glue in the bottom slot and it would collect dirt and grass and I couldn't get it out. First thing I noticed when picking up the DHY was that the weight on the back of the club was loose! I was like, "Come on Adams, tighten up your game...." I would probably get one, but the lack of quality (I've heard other stories as well) makes me hesitate. Minor issues, I know, but I am very reluctant to ever pay full price for anything Adams.

I'll probably get one soon, though, haha.

I own two of them and hit them quite a bit with no issues with the weight in the back.

Can anyone comment on the sound the club produces?
I find the sound and feel to be quite soft.

I wanna call it a muted thwack...

Hey JW, how would compare distance and forgiveness to a GI iron? Say a G25 4 iron vs the DHy 24*?
Think I might want to give one of these a go, but would be great to hear your thoughts on a direct comparison with a GI iron.
I think it depends on the player... For a high spin player I think DHy will go further because its so low spin compared to a normal GI iron design. Forgiveness for me is negligible but if you really miss toe side I think a GI or SGI is gonna be more forgiving. I much prefer the sole and offset of the DHy though... It's really a great club.

Looks like an iron, performs like a hybrid, ball speed of a 4/5 wood and the efficiency of a driver. Very unique club.

....and I just bought one. Got a 25% discount from retail which is exactly what I needed to pull the trigger. Whoohooo!

JW,

What is your driver SS??? My driver SS is 105 and I'm wondering if I'm on that fine line of bagging the x flex. You said you initially tested the S flex and actually ordered the X flex. How does this particular shaft play to flex. Is the S a soft S or does it play to a true S flex.

To all of the other members, any input would help.

Thanks!!!

Any follow up on this as I would be interested to know as well?

My driver ball speed is 160-167 depending on the day, my back that day, my swing that day, etc. I hate going strictly by speed numbers for club fitting that's why I didn't address the question the first few times I read it because I don't think a lot of people truly know their swing speed. I see so many guys posing they have 110-115 mph speed but hit 6 iron 180 yards.... Sorry if that seems harsh.

There are NOT that many guys out there that truly swing 110+ with the driver. My driver speed is 108-114 or so.

How about this... if you fly 7 iron over 175 yards you're absolutely in X. If you fly your under 165 yards you are more than likely stiff flex. IF you are between 165-175 it depends on a million factors... the loft of your 7 iron (LOL), your tempo, your current flight, your preferred flight, etc etc etc.

You and I are exactly alike for speeds. It's a complete "tweener" situation. I went with stiff, and my driver speed is in that same zone -- 108-113. I did so because the flex of the club lets me play it smoothly. It has a much higher flight profile compared to my 4i with a c-taper S / 120 that's a little stiffer than anything "off the rack". I could play an X, but I like the way the ball lands. My hybrid is a lower flight and more roll, so this gives me a good option from 215-230 to not have a huge rollout.

14 Pings. Blueprints are incredibly good. Fetch is the most underrated putter on the market. Don't @ me.

See this is kinda what I'm talking about though... Your driver SS is 108-113? See I would say true 108-113 would almost always overpower stiff in that shaft. Obviously if you are and you don't then you're an exception. How far do you carry a 7 iron? The driver SS numbers you have from a launch monitor?

This is my opinion but I would say at 108+ it's not a tweener between S and X. I think about 99% of the guys playing on tour are playing X and there quite a few swinging under 108.

My 7i is at 172 right now. I usually play it to about 166-169. Can I hit it 185? Yes, but not accurately.

And I am an exception; I'm still trying to pin it down, but I could play an X in it. Maybe I'll switch, but for the moment, I'm happy with the performance. If I do anything, I'll go S+, and maybe I'll switch to the Red Tie instead of the White.

There ya go, you have it totally under control then and that's why it makes fitting a shaft into a flex based on speed alone very difficult. There's a certain element of feel and temp that go into it too. Based on your speeds and distances (which match up) you can absolutely handle X but if you're happy with the flight and feel of the S then by all means enjoy it. For me the X just gives me a little flatter flight that helps... the initial high launch is already there so the flatter, hotter flight helps.

Regarding shaft flex. I was in the same dilemma so here was my thought process based on my experience with Matrix shafts:

I am a tweener (7 iron 170, Driver SS 103-105, late-release, fairly quick transition) and the Matrix 7M3 Black Tie in Stiff in my Razr Fit Xtreme driver gave me all I could handle. The Matrix progam shaft in stiff in my Adams Super hybrid from last year was fine, perhaps a bit too spinny, but it is a softer tip shaft. The Matrix X-con 6 stiff in my old Cobra S9-1 Pro driver gave me all I could handle. I play a 63X Whiteboard in my G25 driver just fine, so was tempted to go X in the White Tie but as you can see with my experience I feel like Matrix shafts generally do not play weak to flex.

I ordered a DHy in Stiff flex.

Just ordered the 27* from DD's.
Can't wait ! Haven't been this excited about a club in a while. Been struggling w/ my 5 iron a bit recently and was considering a 5 hybrid, but every one I demoed just hit the ball too high.
I play a 20 and 23 G25 hyb. currently, but I tried every 25-27* out here and just couldn't get over the height of the shots.
Tried the DHY and was very impressed. If the 27* works out I'll get a 24* as well.

I holed my first bunker shot of the year today-- from 212 yards with my 24 degree DHy. These things are truly unbelievable clubs... I played 27 holes today and I hit them as much as I possibly can. I lay up with them on par 5's and hit them off several tees.. anywhere really.

Still waiting for my 3 wood to come in (it actually came today) I took my driver out and played with 21DHy, 24DHy, 5-PW, 52, 59 and putter because I was asked to sub in a men's league tonight and from the white tees the front nine is a fairly short par 35 around 3000 yards. I shot 32... Lol... these are the club of the year in my opinion.

Seriously anybody struggling with long irons or hybrids you owe it to yourself to try these.

They truly are some of my favorite clubs in the bag at this point. Off the tee and deck they flat out perform. Adams is truly the king of hybrids.

Harsh. I'm not really loving the look either but it definitely could've been worse. That paint scheme definitely makes it look slimmer than it really is.

I bought a 21* on JW's recommendation and I'm getting a 24* too. I just love this club. Whether it is off the tee, from the short grass, or nestled in the rough, this thing get the ball up and moving. I don't even carry a 3 wood right now, because there is no point. Oh, and it really is a rescue club too. I've hit some borderline "swing and a prayer" shots from gnarly lies that have ended up on the green.

As for the SS thing... Last time I checked I was ~100mph and I have the stiff in the DHY. I hit my i20 7 iron 155-160 yds and the stiff feels just right. I don't think these things warrant a reshaft with something boutique. The stock Matrix is a fine match for the head.

I get TONS of comments from people about this club too! The consensus is, "Wow! That is a wild looking club! I love the way it sits at address!" I've sold at least two of these things thus far.

I just got a chance to hit the 18* for the first time last night during a real quick range session. First thought is I need to cut it down a little bit to fit better in my bag (and it felt too long at stock length), but of the handful of times I hit it, great club.

I've been loving my 16* XHP hybrid, but it may have to come out of the bag to make room for this guy.

Has anyone picked up the 27*? I'm in the market for a new iron set and thinking this may be the way to go for a 5-iron replacement. I really like my A12 Pro 20* and 23* so I think the DHY would slot nicely after those. Then I could do 6-Pw to complete the irons. Also how is everyone liking the stock shaft; how does it feel flex wise?

I have ordered a 27 Dhy and plan on trying exactly what you mention....... Irons to 6 iron, hope the 27 Dhy works for 5 iron replacement and than build from there.

Currently I have a Ping K15 27, 23 and 20 hybrid make up, if Dhy 27 works, get the 24 and than find a solid fairway wood from turf to replace the K15s.

Should be here this week, will advise and post review after a few rounds

The Xutility is a great stick but not as forgiving as the DHY. I also think the DHY is better out of the rough.

Agreed. I've been hitting the X Utility wonderfully off a tee, but haven't been having much success with it when the fairways are firmer. I just shortened the DHy to 39.5" (0.75" under) which should fit better between the 4 iron at 38.5" and the 16* XHP at 41.25".
