so Tiger uses a heavier more spinier shaft in his driver for control
anyone know the length? probably 44.5" ?

so someone who uses say a mid 60's driver shaft, obtain similar results w a mid 80's driver shaft?
always wondered about this
would you have to go to a lighter flex, is playing a stiff, go to Reg or a slightly tipped reg?

off topic, but were kind of on that topic

^ He's playing his driver at 45" but have no idea how much it's tipped. The heavier shaft will work for some depends on your swing and preference.

Went to check out the Tourney yesterday and it was cold for SoCal standards.

ok... this is a blanket statement so take it only as that...

if you were playing a 60 TIP STIFF shaft such as the WHITE BOARD you could technically go to a 80g shaft with a SLIGHTLY different profile - like the BLUE BOARD. this will only work if the shafts are SIMILAR in profile. in SOME cases heavier shafts will launch the ball lower with less spin than their lighter counter parts. i.e. BLUE BOARD 83x launches and spins less than the 63x. therefore a 103x BB will be somewhat comparable to a 73x WB.

however some manufactures specifically design the 80g shaft for a fairway wood instead of a driver. if that is the case the scenario above will not work as the heavier shaft will launch higher and spin more than the lighter versions. the OBAN DEVOTION comes to mind as a shaft that plays lower in the lighter weights than the heavier...

this is a complete general statement.

BTW tiger did not go down in flex as was indicated on GC - he went down in profile from the WB to BB.

Im guessing hes using a 103x tipped alittle less than his usual 1.5"
[/quote]

potentially :) tiger is a wild card though. it all depends on how the tipping would affect this profile. there is a chance that a 103x BB would play similar to a 73x WB tipped the same amount. that's why they have a truck with lots of goodies!

Thank you for the great pics and the first hand information. The 2.0 looks like a nice stick...

FWIW, I like the look of the shoes.

he has used the 103X BB in his 3 and 5 woods since 2008 I believe.

Cwatts explanation of the heavier with a softer tip for better tempo and more spin is dead on. Just would think he would've tried a kaili or more recent shafts.

I'm sure he did try some of the more recent shafts. Tiger actually tries and test a lot of different shafts.

But he always sticks with what he has the most confidence in. Technology does not always equal better performance.

Well said. Two years ago he was trying out a kaili and AD DI in a fairway at The Players and as far as I know he never played an actual round with either.

Were those. Nike rain pants he was wearing yesterday and today? If so, anyone know what kind -- they don't look like the 2014 models with the elastic patch by the knee. I need a pair.

Today for sure. Not sure about yesterday on the front side, but not on the back nine yesterday.

No rain but very little sun and very cold, especially when the breeze kicked up. I've had my rain suit on all three days I've been at Sherwood. 1 hour frost delay each day so far. 23-30 degrees every morning.

Suppose to rain tomorrow but hopefully not be as cold (yeah right!).

Highs have been in the low 50's.

A number of the caddies either wore rain pants over their shorts or wore long trousers.

Just another reason to move the tourney to FL where it will be sunny and 80. Seems like the weather just doesn't cooperate this time of year in the LA area.

I've been in all parts of Fl when it's been windy, cold & rainy, too. So it's not always sunny and 80. Orlando in December can be nasty as well. I'm glad it's moving for easy of travel.

Being a SoCal native I hate that it's moving. This tourney has met a lot to the community and Sherwood is an incredible club.

Sherwood has a great clubhouse but neither Sherwood or Isleworth should ever be confused with a great golf course.

If TW plays this well with his new driver next year, watch out record books!!!

The driver is helping, but the shaft is slowing him down and helping keep him in the fairway. That's huge.

This is like the 6 or 7 year I've done this event. Isleworth has the same kind of "money" so you get the same type of houses and member's wives. Neither impress me. See that every week.
