Graphite Design: AD-TP vs AD-IZ

IH823PUTT

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

How do the GD AD-TP and AD-IZ shafts compare to one another? I was dead set on the AD-TP as mid launch, low spin are what I'm after...but am hearing from a reputable source that the AD-IZ is the way to go!

Any input in how they compare would be most appreciated!

AD IZ will launch higher and feel livelier than the AD TP.

For me, the AD IZ was very loose in a 6X at 120mph. Especially at transition.

AD TP in a 6X holds up to my swing speed but can get a little wild at times.

IMO AD DI and AD IZ both play soft to flex and are more for people who like that lively feeling and pronounced kick. If you're a bigger swinger or a quick tempo I don't picture you liking them

I game the ad tp 8tx in my fairway wood. I tried (and sold) the iz in 6tx and 8tx in my driver and fw. I’m about 115 clubhead speed, late release, handsy, high launch, and not low spin. I Love the TP. The IZ was softer and way too high for me. If you’re low spin/low launch I could see the iz being good. It launched so high, I would use a lower lofted head- which would lower the spin. All in all the IZ was too soft for my liking and I’m a big fan of the TP.

Thanks for the input, everyone. I still think the AD TP is the route for me! I'm hard from the top, but like feel. Now to decide on 6X tipped, or 6TX untipped.

I played 7 rounds of golf with all 3 shafts; TP, DI & IZ, all tipped 1/2", playing at 45".

My ss is 98-100 mph, with Callaway Rogue, my findings were:

Feel Best to worst IZ, DI, TP

Launch High to low IZ, DI, TP

Distance Longest IZ, DI, TP

Going with IZ, will be ordering a 3wood with the IZ shaft as well, for me I was looking for higher launch, low spin & this shaft does that for me.

I hit the IZ 7 X at a demo day and had no issues hitting it too high and I'm a high ball hitter. Agree it plays a bit soft though to flex like the DI.

I've got experience with both. The TP has a very pronounced kick like the DI. The IZ feels different, the kick/release doesn't feel as prominent, it's more of a steady load and unload. I prefer the IZ for my swing

Anyone try tipping the IZ to help with dispersion?

Interested in an answer to this as well. The seller said the shaft was tipped .5 inch but it still plays a bit longer and softer than what I'd like. Thinking of tipping an extra .5 inch and wondering if anyone has had good results doing this.

I tipped my driver IZ shaft 1" and 4 wood shaft 1" both with callaway heads. Both working well for me. I demoed both IZ and TP shafts through shaftshack.com and thats how they came from them with adapter. Worked well, so thats how I ordered it through callaway.

Thanks! Did you have a chance to hit them without the tipping to compare the feel/ball flight? My swing speed could be either stiff or x flex (105) so I always struggle between buying stiff, tipping stiff, or just buying an X flex.

No, when I got them from shaftshack they have the shafts tipped 1", so I did not try it untipped. I just compared the IZ shaft to the DI & TP, the IZ was the best for me.

When you say they came that way... I assume you asked for this? Or what?

Was thinking about giving shaftshack a whirl, but not if they're just shipping shafts tipped a full inch without me requesting such things.

I currently game the AD TP 7x in driver and absolutely love it. I have tried the IZ 6x and 7x in driver and just wasn’t as consistent, IZ went left on me far too often. I do play the IZ hybrid shaft though, and for whatever reason the IZ hybrid shaft profile is designed to be a a tighter feeling profile compared to driver/fwy IZ shaft. The TP is described as firm/firm/stiff tip, where as the IZ is listed as firm butt/medium mid section/firm to firm + tip section. So overall the IZ is softer feeling profile and most would notice that in the mid section and tip areas. For anybody wondering the IZ hybrid is listed as firm/firm/ stiff tip and for me aligns well with the TP in driver and fairway. Just for reference my driver SS is 108-112 mph with smooth tempo, harder transition at the top and late release.

I tipped my 8x 1/4 inch and still I can go a wee bit left loading hard, so I open the face or so I hold off a tad. Smooth swings feel like effortless bombs. SW D5 @45.5. 196.4g head. IMO for loaders the spine needs to be at 9 or 3 - 0 clock to stabilize it. Usually I play a 6x. If I did I prob would tip it 1inch to 1 1/4. Some are being sold used, as players were too scared to tip a $ shaft. 104SS load solid, draw ball, late release. IZ is 'very smooth', straight and consistent. My spin is 2450, were my old time fave UST elements wind 6x tipped 1 1/4 spin is 2k but not so tite. I am only 5-10y behind it but FW with boring traj and height. 8x weight is great into wind. I might try a 7x tipped 1/2in

Bought a TS2 16.5 head and looking for a shaft, after some research and on a whim bought a TP 6s off ebay and it plays 42" with the 4 wood, what an unbelievable shaft, so stable, so straight, able to launch it off tee and fairway with the right amount of spin. This is the first time I play a Graphite Design shaft and I am impressed. Just bought a VR 6s for my driver and can't wait to put it in play next week.

I am liking the TP but need more launch. IZ sounds like the ticket.

Played the IZ a few rounds a couple years ago and really was not hitting the ball well back then. My game has improved so much since then wanting to maybe give the IZ another try.

No, but the Rogue ST Max D AD TP is headed to BST in the am. Going back to the Sim2 and the IZ is a serious contender. Had the HD in a Sim2 and it was serious. Had my longest drives ever with the IZ in a another head. Big fan of GD shafts in my driver. I might tip a 6s this time.

So you gonna go with the IZ or HD? No more TP? I'm loving the TP in my fairways right now - trying to chase that same performance in my driver but after a swing change which has me delofting with my wrist the AD XC I have isnt doing so hot anymore.

I have an IZ and UB inbound for testing with the XC.

How's your experience with tipping GD shafts? I tend to stick with their recommendations, not the OEMs, but the incoming UB is tipped .5" and my XC is tipped .25". Not sure if .5" will make a lot of difference?...the .25" on my XC is just a little tip shave due to adapter prep from previous owner and prob isnt effecting performance.
