Would like to see Poulter or Dunne win. Not confident either will get it done though.

Don't like how Dodt have been playing so far last round, kind of Seveish. Out in the rough on every shot and great saves from there. Swing is king in golf, the reason why you never get bored. And to perform from tee or good lies on fairway when the pressure is on, when you have nothing to cry about, like a poor lie, that's what you should get most respect from. That's one of the thing that Tiger did well, and one of the most respectable shots that kind of made me interested in TV-broadcasted golf. The approach shot Tom Watson had on last hole in The Open 1983. 200 meters slight uphill form the fairway. Par required to win. Hit it straight as a needle and had a simple two-putt. I remeber the commentator "that's the stroke of a champion". And that still counts. Also true for how I value shots in my own rounds. When I have 150 meters left to green and have to make par to win a match, lower my HCP or such, that is when I'm tested as a golfer. When I have to execute the golf swing to perfection even when nervous. I am not rooting for Dodt. The drives of that young guy Shinkwin is something else, but let's see in an hour. What he is made of.

Hard lesson to learn ... no need to try to get pin high on his 2nd shot the first time he played it ...

I agree - he had 248 yards left, trouble around the green left and right ... he only needed a 5, and the correct move should have been lay up, knock a wedge on the green and have an easy 2-putt.

Learning experience for him for sure. Surreal that we had deja vu all over again in the play off, and leaving two putts short in those situations is something I doubt he will do again !

Top play from Rafa though.

Easy to armchair in retrospect, but I don't understand that bump chip shot on the 72nd hole. Just pitch it 20 feet past and 2-putt. I would fire that caddie. Haha

It looked like the caddie did suggest that option, but if I was on the bag I would have absolutely insisted on it. Though, in fact he'd have had 8-iron thrust in his hands for his second shot :)

Not sure it's the caddie's responsibility to tell the player what type of shot to hit unless there is a clear understanding between them. Ultimately, it was Shinkwin's call.

That chip shot was a spot where you really need your caddie to step up and tell you what to do. He should have been chipping to the open side of the green and give himself a 25-30 footer. Chipping into the bank was much riskier when he could have just taken the bunker right out of play.

Agreed. His caddy should have said, "hey, we're here in two, play this thing like a par 3 from here, chip to the fat part of the green, two-putt and party all night."

What a great day of links golf today! Love it

P.S. USGA take note, you don't need to be stupid long to have carnage

You get high enough winds, you can have carnage at the Bob Hope Desert Classic.

You can have carnage in my garden as well with high enough winds, but that was not my point, obviously

p.s. well deserved win from a quality player!

Cool course. I like that it looks playable with calm conditions but can get interesting when the weather turns.
