Ping Blueprint forged irons- New photos added page 27

Recommended Posts

Fun fact...the notch is not entirely to help bend clubs. It's an effort to take weight out of the heel putting CoG closer to the toe. Thus, iBlade's notch is very small compared other i models or G models for that very reason.

Tell me more about how this works.. im genuinely interested.

The last time i played iblade, i found it highly forgiving. Just as forgiving as my i25 if not more. i didnt want to play the iblade because it just wasnt going very far for me. Not sure what it was.

Taking weight away from the heel moves the balance point (CoG) closer to the toe. Toe misses are more common in amateurs than heel. A traditional blade’s heel-toe CoG is closer to the heel (why heel misses feel solid). iBlade is a better player’s iron so a smaller notch means the CoG is not being pushed as much to the toe.

Weight added out in the toe can also slow the toe down and promote more of a fade bias. This can be very helpful for players who tend to overdraw their irons.

Yup solid forging. Weight port is...a weight port.

Edit: and for me, “submitting” the order was just telling the shop I use what I want, they wrote it down and emailed the rep, he said they won’t be able until June, they told me. They’ll actually submit the order once a SKU/price is determined.

I'm assuming the feel is much better than the i500s which I think are damned clanky (even on center strikes), so I'm definitely ordering a set of the Blueprints. 5-PW.

Did anyone hit these at the PGA show?

I agree the i500 feel isn't my favorite, I wonder if anyone has cotton-balled the hollow cavity with success?

I told myself I am not getting new irons until the next Mizuno MP line comes out, but these things looks pretty good at address and a 5-PW would blend nicely with my i500 4 iron....but I'll have to wait to see how they feel. I blind ordered the i500 and like most everything about it except the feel is not what I prefer.

The i500 is drastically mis-marketed (or mis-interpreted). I really think it's for scratch golfers that are starting to lose distance with age. If you hit the sweet spot it feels fine (not great, but fine). If you miss the sweet spot it is horrendously clunky. I probably should have gone iBlades for better feel on misses, but I do think the i500s look great and they perform awesome when I have time to practice.

The Blueprints look lovely as well.

Along with the astute observation you made, I just assumed they made the i500's for a more attractive option to blend a set with the iBlades (hence why they offer traditional and power spec lofts in both) versus going iBlades and say i210's (or i200's). Either way, they look beautiful but feel horrible. Ping is open to feedback and honest retrospection on what they do well and do horribly (see the G400 fairway woods versus the new 410's), so I am sure the next iteration will be butter.

Ive been saying this since August. It sounds and feels good/great on the course with premium balls. Flies awesome. Plays awesome. But the sound of a bad mishit, oh lord.. that CLICK is so grotesque, it literally makes me wanna hide behind a tree.

Reps will start talking in March and orders will be taken in June. Price will be $250/iron. True forged iron, tungsten weight screw in the toe and also a tungsten weight in the tip of the shaft to increase MOI.

Off topic here and I know asked before, but any word on an iblade replacement?

Great question! I’d like to know the answer to this question as well.

Can’t wait to pick up a set on here after the seller took them to one range session and decided they weren’t right for him.

But you could probably sell them on BST for as much if not more than you bought them for

I highly doubt Ping would bring an iBlade replacement to market anytime around the release of the Blueprint irons. That would deter people from purchasing the Blueprint. If they decided to bring an iBlade replacement this year, it would have to be in the fall. I'll poke around and see what I can get, but highly doubt it's coming spring/summer.
