PING closed because of Corona?!?!?!?

I got fitted for a set of Ping I500’s 4-PW from my local club fitter. He contacted me today and told me they were built/boxed but didn’t ship!!!!! They won’t open back up till April 6th!!! Damn Coronavirus!!!!! Looks like zero golf for me the next three weeks. You all play some golf for me.

You might want to buy a backup set. No knowing how long the stay at home orders will last. Good luck and stay safe.

I bought two sets of iBlades in early-mid February. At the time, even I was like “why am I buying two sets of iBlades in essentially the same specs?”. So when both sets arrived on the same day, I sent one of the sets to PING to adjust lie angle. “I’ll just keep this second set until the other set comes back from PING” is what I told myself.

Now I realize that was almost prophet-level foresight.

I'm looking for a "hobby" during all this, so more into ordering shafts or grips or supplies to experiment with than new heads, but then again I already 4/5 iron sets floating around in the rotation, so not a problem if we get out and a "hobby project" isn't quite ready yet)

There’s no way anyone is opening back up by April 6th. This is a minimum 6-8 week disruption.

I ordered a set of raw SM8s from WedgeWorks on March 1. Just got the email yesterday they’re shutting down and my order won’t be completed on the original timeline. No word on what the new timeline might be.

California Governor has issued a “Shelter in Place” which means only essential people can leave there homes...this will affect a lot of the golf OEMs as many are based in California...

Not just the manufacturers....Golftown is closed in Canada so even if an OEM was open we couldn't order a set from anywhere

Companies will figure out ways to open within a reasonable amount of time. They have no other choice. Even in California there are many i know of still open in some capacity. Golf companies will figure it out

Ordered my SIM driver from GT on Sunday. Like you said, they are closed now. I know Taylor made’s headquarters are in Carlsbad but I don’t know where their club assembly sites are etc. either way of golf town isnt open I can’t pick up the club if it’s done anyways.

I had some irons in their AZ location for loft/lie adjustments. Spoke with them yesterday afternoon and they had shipped out on Thursday. At that time the rep I spoke with said there has been no information given to them about closing - that was around 1pm EST - maybe someting changed since then.

Retail has already been dying, but this is just going to further decimate it. More people will be agile in the workplace if their job can permit. As for GT, they will have bad sales during and after this ends, when ever that is. As for not having irons, check out the bay and see if any cheap older ping sets are close in spec and get playing (if possible I guess) sooner.

I totally understand not letting everyone in the factory at this time for the safety of the employees. But if there are clubs made, boxed up and ready to ship like mine are at PING. You would think that they would have one or two employees at these OEM’s to at least get those shipped out.

I have a backup set or two but won’t do me a damn bit of good in San Diego. 99% of courses are closed and there is no place to play.

I imagine shipping out the last few orders was pretty low on the priorities. Most companies had very little idea how to handle the shutdown/work from home and were scrambling in 100 different ways. I know a lot of places (including my own) who had no idea if their servers would even handle the amount of remote log-ons, and our conference call provider crashed the first day we were all off

These things might not be related to Ping, but i bet they had a bunch of unexpected issues come up in terms of business continuity.

I’m in Phoenix and have been over to Ping many times. They aren’t a small operation, and there have to be a lot more people than a handful in the shipping department. I’m guessing that they just shut the whole operation down and everybody went home.

Now for the good news... Yer gonna love the i-500s, or I miss my guess. I swapped out a set of iBlades for the i500 and have never looked back. These are well worth your wait!
