I'm above the range currently at ~7 and hoping to fly right by it on my way to 4.3. I bag g400 5 to SW(54). That leaves me room for one wedge. Was using a Glide 2 ES 58 but trying out an RTx3 58 3 dot with the 12 bounce.

OP here. I agree that the scope of this thread is too narrow. If I want to get better, I think it's a good idea to hear about the wedge setup for better golfers, so opening up to input from players with a current index of 4.4 AND 4.5.

A two club setup:

54.6 degree SW at 12.3 degrees of bounce60.2 degree LW at 8.7 degrees of bounceI originally had a 54.8 SW, but it was flighting it far too high, and also a 59.9 LW which had a tendency for low stingers that just weren't cutting it for me.

I’m a 5.9 with the short game of a 4.7 but haven’t played in a while so probably more like an 8.5 but to answer your question you obviously don’t know your swing that well. I’d recommend getting a few lessons and then getting fit.

THIS BRINGS UP A GOOD TOPIC...Handicap index rules on club use

 

Rules should state at what Handicap index should you be allowed certain clubs in your bag. For instance maybe 15.0 and above No Driver allowed. 6.0 and above 64 Deg Lob wedge. not allowed.

Absolutely. With daily handicap index updates, I need to have different loft, bounce and ground combinations on the ready in case I move to a different index grouping (e.g. 4.4 - 4.5 or 5.0 - 5.1).

As a 16 I was hitting most fairways with my driver. Still do, but really short. 235ish. Why shouldn't I have had one? Currently a 14...

5.1 - 9.9 is too broad.

5.1 - 5.2 would be more appropriate.

I don't have a Stock 7 Iron -- I went with a Lingenfelter 7 Iron and it goes 161 yards but gets there 2X as Fast as a Stock one.

SM7 52/08 F that’s ever so slightly grounded down on the leading edge with sand paper by hand. I sometimes give the heel a few swipes with the sand paper but only after I use it on the leading edge.

 

SM7 58/08 M that I use a smooth sand paper with hardly any grit to it and make the trailing edge play even better. It’s a M grind on an M grind IMHO. Love it.
