All time best/worst round ever?!

This past sunday I played 18 holes at my regular course. The swing was in sync. Driver and irons were locked in as good as they've ever been. Shot a 73 (+1) with 36 putts. Yes, 36 putts. I hit 15 Greens in regulation including 2 eagle attempts and somehow only had one 1 putt all day. Quite possibly the worst putting performance if not for the fact I only had one 3 putt.

Can anybody else top me and have 50+ percent of their shots come from putts?

Yes, i have a round where i shot 72, hit all 18 GIRs and 2-putted everyone of them

Sorry!

I actually came very close to having 37 putts with a 72, except technically on one of the par 5's i was just off the green

Just played probably my best round that I can remember, hit driver straight on almost every hole and the worst drive didn't end up punishing me, iron play was good, chipping was good, averaged 1.8 outta. Final score was 38 but probably closer to 43 without mulligans. Either way I'm happy with how I played.

Funny, my "home course" is Medal of Honor at Marine Corps Base Quantico, had my best and worse score at that course, few years back, Saturday morning, played possessed...TIGER SHOT!!!!, shot -6 (not too long of a course), the very next Saturday, Tiger never showed up,  TIGGER, however, made an appearance!!!!, shot 92, yes +20, lost a few golf balls, put 3 in the water, 3 putted 3 holes, if I remember correctly I hit 4 holes in reg, I guess it wasn't too bad for playing that way...that said, that's why I love this game. That course is not hard at all, but if you miss on the wrong spots you will be punished, which I did. Normally, I score from 72-76 on that course regularly, but we all have those days!!!

I had a round in high school where i was 4 under through 12 holes.. on 14, hooked a ball in the trees, no big deal, punch out and make a bogey... well that was the plan. Punched out, and on on my next shot i realized the ball i punched out wasnt mine. Took the penalty and ended up making a quad. The next hole i hit a nice shot into a par 3 and had 20 ft for birdie. I proceeded to 4 putt for a double. Ended up 6 over (76). Went from a 66 to 76 in a flash... ?

Yep. Many years back during at that time a rare February warm spell/no snow here in Western PA. Shot 81. Had 41 putts with 14 GIR. Plenty of 3 putts. Putter felt like a sledgehammer in my hands that day. By far the worst putting round of my life coupled with one of my best ball striking rounds. Complete twilight zone round.

Best I have ever scored is 70, multiple times on multiple courses (par 71s, par 72s and even a par 73). I have a mental block in breaking 70. I have even bogeyed, double bogeyed and even had a triple bogey once to shoot 70. I am hoping I can work on this again and soon since I am not as big of a mental headcase as I once was. In those rounds I was probably close to 50%, maybe more like 45% (32 putts at even par 70). Problem was partially putting and the couple of holes I went over par. Mostly course management issues back then.

I hit 12 greens in regulation this weekend and shot an 89. By far the most greens I have ever hit, and absolutely the worst putting performance of my life. Even with the usual super slow greens in the spring, I have never struggled so much with the putter. My closest approach shot was about 4.5 feet and I didn't even hit the lip on my birdie attempt, but at least 2 putted that one.

My 81 at Carnoustie. I missed just 5 greens (all but one on the back - and only on 17 was it a BAD miss), just 3 fairways (all on the back), didn't find one single bunker or burn ... but my short game just didn't show up at all. Like, not even a little bit. I don't think I made a single putt outside of 5 feet. Chipping was atrocious.

I recall walking off the 9th green with a 38 and my delightful old caddie saying something like "Lad, you go home to California, learn how to putt, then come back. That should have been a 34."

Tee to green, it was one of the best rounds I've ever played. Short game? Ugh.

  • 4 weeks later...

Sunday for me came pretty close as I had one chip in for eagle and a noputt birdie and finished with 30 putts. Couldn't make a 3-4ft putt to save par for nothing, had a case of the pulls. Might be looking cross-eyed with the putter again. Probably time to change it up. Shot 73

The absolute best round of my life makes me think of two rounds where I shot 66 (both 5 under). One course was about 6,400 yards and the other one was 7,000. If I remember right, I missed a 4-footer for par on 17 during the 2nd round which would've made me bogey free. I've never had a clean card.

Worst round? So many come to mind. Definitely the top spot is the 135 I shot freshman year of high school. There's also the 90 I shot in a Nationwide Tour qualifier back in 2010. I was so nervous on the front. Think I shot 54-36.

It's been a couple of years since I've broken 70. Now I'm tickled to death and feel like a tour pro when i'm in the 72-73 range.

I had back to back rounds of 73.

First one I hit 13/14 fairways and 17/18 greens. I putted like a dog.

Second one I hit 4/14 fairways and 3/18 greens. I chipped and putted like I was on tour.
