UV sleeves or sunscreen?

TL;DR: Buy yourself some Sparms shawls.

Earlier today, I walked 18 holes with the sun beating down on me while there were no clouds in the sky. The heat index when I started was 115, and it was 117 when I finished 18. Aside from the hell-like heat (I ended up drinking two full gallons of water during my round), there were no clouds in the sky and nowhere to hide from the sun. I literally had to back away from a few tee’d balls and putts because it was so hot, my sweat was running down my sunglasses and I couldn’t see clearly.

I wore my Sparms for the first time out on the course during this round. By the time I got to the course, I didn’t even feel them on me... they are that comfortable. At no time during the round did they bother me. In fact, I’m pretty sure they are partly responsible for me not getting heat stroke; they felt like they were cooling me down. My round took just under two hours and thirty minutes (2:29:29 per my golf watch). When I arrived back home, I took the Sparms off and I had ZERO coloration on my arms. No sunburn, no tan, NADA. These things straight up work. No if’s, and’s, or but’s, these Sparms have guts (kudos to anyone that can identify this reference).

I will never again go out in the sun again without these babies on. I highly recommend them.

I have had UV sleeves for a few years, but, I play early, so, I haven't had the occasion to use them until the past couple of days. I have the Nike UV sleeves, and, they worked great. Though, I need to admit, I, also, have a UV umbrella, and, that helped a bit, too.

I wear an UA Heat Gear base layer when the temperature is in the 60's though mid-80's. At that point I switch to sun sleeves.

There are three different cuts for the base layer. The compression fit is the tightest. It's not bad if you don't mind the compressing effect. On the other end of the spectrum is the loose fit. It's quite loose, and feels like its hanging on a clothesline.

One drawback of a base layer is that the white ones get quite nasty looking around the neckline over time, as they absorb sunblock applied to the neck.

I use the Hanes cool-dri long sleeve tee shirts. The crew neck is important.

 

I should add, sunscreen on all exposed areas.

Down here on the Florida gulf coast, I honestly don't think I have seen someone wearing sleeves on the golf course. We wear long sleeve shirts on the boat and beach, but it's usually polos and sunscreen on the course. We do wear long-sleeved shirts in cooler weather, but I don't see it for sun protection.

I use the spray can sunscreen like Coppertone Sport and it works great. I put it on before I leave the house and spray myself again at the turn.

Spray Screen on the legs. Sleeves on the arms. Nothing worse then reapplying mid round and have the clubs fly out of your hands from the grease.

I don't know but that spray stuff is nasty. I don't think that breathing whatever is in it into the lungs is a good idea.

Yeah, sleeves every time, they just beat having to reapply sunscreen mid round, plus you never get the sunscreen out of your shirts.

started wearing sleeves recently. Sunscreen on my hands, face, legs. Just noticed after one round that I have a tan line at my wrists—hands darker than forearms. Sleeves work.

Was down at Pinehurst a few years ago, and the majority of the caddies wore sleeves, and wide brimmed hats. Figure they know what they are doing.

I am in central Alabama just outside of Birmingham and I am absolutely the only person I have seen in pants and sleeves all summer. Not going to lie and say I don't take a lot of crap from the good ol' boys, but I'm going to keep doing it because it works. I was honestly surprised at how comfortable I actually am.

It was 95 degrees on Saturday during my round and humid as all get out, but the sleeves and pants kept the sun off of me, and the sleeves absorbed my sweat and gave me a nice cooling effect from the breeze. I don't think I could have been any more uncomfortable than everyone else in shorts and short sleeves in that oppressive heat.

As a bonus, I was only having to switch out my glove every 5 holes or so because the sleeves were absorbing the sweat before it ran down into my golf glove.

I play golf 6x a week and right now in Houston it is HOT. Typically I go with sunscreen but the sleeves by Storyi are amazing and keep my arms cool so morning or mid afternoon rounds in the heat of the day sleeves it is!

That's a big plus for me. When I wear sleeves I don't need as many glove changes.

I've been going back and forth and in my opinion it is sleeves for he win. Sleeves are noticeably cooler in the direct sunlight and the cooling effect is really nice even in humid conditions. Also as everyone else said previously even with sunscreen on you still tan, you just don't burn. The SParm shawls are amazing also as I finally got to wear the ones that I ordered months ago! I should have been wearing sleeves long ago.

The sleeves (from UVoider) that I use are SPF50. I do NOT use sunscreen on my arms; I only wear the sleeves. I neither burn nor tan with the sleeves.

Bought some of these dont have any thing to compare them to, but they were comfortable and I am on team sleeves now.

The Sparms May be my favorite. Thought the FJ were nice as a one size fits all compared to the Nike which were just too tight. The FJ are definitely thicker than Sparms and the Sparms are the easiest to put on. Love them.

Tried ordering two of the sparms shawl wraps and they sent me an email that they could not fulfill my order and refunded payment. I guess before I try again how are you finding the fit of these? Did you measure yourself for them before ordering? Just wondering what size I could get away with.

Their sizing chart has two chest measurements for each size (an unstretched and a stretched). I found the chest measurement to be accurate. Just measure your chest and choose the size that you'd fit into.

Huge skeptic here of the sleeves, until I bought some Sparms and used them. I'm a believer now. I'll be buying more. Thanks for your insight guys!

I'm using the B-Driven sports arm sleeve and I love it. It makes my arms much cooler when exposed to direct sunlight, no longer feeling burning in the hot sun.
