How much are memberships where you live?

Recommended Posts

Just curious. Here in the NW corner of Illinois a unlimited yearly membership at a decent course is $600. You can lease a cart for another $450. What's it like around the rest of the world?

Are you just talking dues and minimums or initiation as well.

Nice course near me is $7700 for a family plus $155 a month in restaurant minimums. Single is $6100 and $135. No initiation at this time. Golf only no pool unlimited range. Very nice track.

They pretty much go up from there or have initiation fees. Lower end private is around $6500 family no pool.

Closest good public track is $80 on a weekend.

Philadelphia is not on the cheap end of the golf spectrum

HOLY CRAP! No wonder golf is down. We just pay a flat rate of $600 and that's all the golf you can play when the course is open. My local course which is a good 3 wood away is not a pristine course but it's maintained well and is very challenging.

Here in the KC area, memberships to nice semi-private courses range from $2,400 to around $3,300 for a single. That includes green fees, cart, and range unlimited. Not sure about most of the private courses...

This is like asking how long is a piece of string. Here in AZ, memberships range from $1k to $100k, probably more.

Out of curiosity, where are you guys playing? I knowno of no club, including my own, that doesn't have a five figure initiation fee, $400-500 per month dues plus a cart fee.

For reference, I live in Chicago..

Prairie Ridge golf course Morrison, Illinois...Tough little track with a 125 slope and is cared for pretty well. 35 and under gets there greens fee membership for $375 and over 35 is $450, add another $500 for a cart membership.

The best thing about this course is the tournament atmosphere, we have some big local team tournys between 30 different clubs about 8 times a year, plus there is always the Saturday and sunday games that usually end up with about 50 players both days. Then we have our cal cutta that usually pays out about 5k for first and we auction off teams a couple of nights prior. Last year my team went for $1500

There is a difference between a "membership" at a private course and a "season pass" at either a municipal or public course.

Where I live all the courses are either municipal courses, community owned or privately owned public courses.

Season pass is usually $700', golf carts not included, golf range usually extra.

In my area, you are looking at about $400 a month for most decent private courses which includes green fees and driving range. Some go a lot more.

$400 a month seems outrageous, I can join a semi private club up the road with a cart for $1500 a year, plus they offer 12 monthly payments to ease the pain. The course is awesome its just out of my way from work to join so I keep going back to the same one.

[/quote]Ya, it's actually not too bad for a private club. I am a member at a semi private club where it costs $215 a month for membership, but the course is so busy all the time. That's really the main difference why I would want to join a private club.

Laws of supply and demand I suppose...

Things may now be different for a few places in the area but estimations of $5,000 to $100,000+ initiation fee, 400-500 per month in dues, cart fees, yearly range fee, locker room fee, CDGA membership, etc...

It's worth it for many as public golf in Chicago, while nice, can be terribly frustrating because of just how busy they get. You can forget about the weekend/holiday rounds under five hours...

My membership is £4200 ($6900) that rises to £6600 ($10,800) after 29 years old, both include health club + tennis facilities. It's rather at the low end of my area, Wentworth, Sunningdale, Foxhills, Walton Heath are all within 20 mins.

There is one mystical place near me called Queenwood that has rumored joining fees of £200k ($329k) and have a member roster of about 300. It's a playground for sports stars, celebrities and tour players.

For a good private course in Northern NJ you can lay out low to mid 5 figures or as much as mid-6 figures for a bond to join. Expect to spend 10-15k each season with dues, cart fees, restaurant minimums, etc. There are some smaller 9 hole private courses where you can pay $1800 plus cart fees for a membership. More attractive are some excellent semi-private courses where you can get unlimited golf, carts, and range time for about $3500. Since I play about 25 rounds/year I play mostly semi-privates with an average green fee of $45 - $60 including cart, although now that I am a senior I will be playing closer to $40/round. When I retire and have more time I will look at joining one of the semi-private clubs.

The cheapest fully private course I found by me(I'm in tempe,AZ) was $280/month, 1k initiation and 500 f&b annually. Cart not included, carts were $15. I quit after a month because it ended going up and my first bill was over $400.

You can get a public membership at a course for $1995 all in. Fun design and range, the course is just not in good shape and you can book it for $10 in the summer. Memeberships aren't cost effective in AZ IMO, unless you play literally every day

I've priced out a few of the area courses, both private and semi-private. I got a season pass for the wife and I for $1000 for this coming season. Last year I paid $800 for a season pass just for myself at a different course, but that was a special deal for new members. The normal rate is $1250.

A year before that, I purchased the season pass for three courses in the area that are owned by the same management: $2400, and that included cart.

And then you get into the private courses of the area. Most range in the $2500-$9000 per year (total cost) range. But then we have places like Oak Hill, Monroe Golf Club, and Country Club of Rochester that are much higher. I've heard estimates between $60k - $75k for initiation at Oak Hill, $27k for initiation at Monroe. And monthly dues ~$600 and $500 respectively for those two.

This is for Private. Semi Private really isn't that prominent here. I tempt myself every year. In the end, I always say at $6100 I can play 61 rounds at $100. I played about 30 rounds last year, including vacations. If I were able to play 2-3 times per week I would do it.

Cheapest I've seen is a seasonal membership at a muni for $4000. There might be some slightly cheaper options out there if you travel farther north or west though. Most courses are only open from April-Nov, so it makes that $4k seem even bigger.

Here in STL we have some from 1500 per family all the way to 10000 and I'm sure there are some higher than that. There are some really nice courses around here (the 10000 was from my Budweiser rep that lives in Whitmoore which is full private. That's what he said it cost for green fees, restaurant.. All that jazz) I'm curious what Winghaven (pvt) and Bellreive run. I don't have that money so I don't sniff around there. Haha

For an adult over 35, most higher end courses in Montreal will run you anywhere from 5-10K for green fees

You can join a perfectly decent course for under 5K. My course is under 5K for full adult membership and is a fantastic layout with one of the best interclub teams in the province
