People keep saying November but I've always had the new Titleist driver mid to late October and had 4 to 6 weeks to play it before the weather turned to cold.

It's really worse then it sounds. Can you imagine getting a new 915 and playing one round with it, then waiting another 4-6 months before hitting it again.

I guess refinement not innovation is the moral.
Max Cor has been achieved for nearly a decade, so innovation is a product of marketing, not actual improvement. Titleist is listed as the most accurate and forgiving driver in nearly all comparisons and reviews I see. So if it is the most forgiving and accurate, and by rule it isn't allowed to be any more explosive, how can you innovate? Refinement is a superior long term strategy.

I agree with this to a point.

The way I see it, the "innovation race" for want of a better way of putting it, is the search for the best possible versatility and highest combination across the board of distance, MOI, launch, spin, spin across the face, forgiveness/sweetspot size, looks and cost.

While some companies like TaylorMade appear to be more orientated around promoting their products on sheer, out-and-out distance, others, like Titleist, some more orientated on pursuing the search for the perfect all-rounder.

Seriously that sucks, do you have to get fitted twice a year for the same clubs? Like 915 in October and 915 in March?

It's really disappointing that Titleist waits until November (doesn't make any sense if you ask me) to release the driver. But maybe this is a sign of things to come.

They've implemented the slot, which many equipment critics (Titleist devotees) labeled as nonsense, a gimmick, marketing crap, etc., on other clubs (feel free to eat your words naysayers). Maybe they'll take a page out of like every other OEMs play book and release everything at once and in a timely manner. Might even boost their sales so they don't have to threaten to stop making equipment and only do balls.

I really do wonder why Nike got rid of compression channel. There's no doubt that it helps with strikes low on the face, but Callaway would say a cup face does the same thing.

The 915 implementation is different based on geometry alone, so I look forward to your review!
Nike couldn't use the compression channel with the cavity back. It would not be a conforming driver, way to much spring affect.
Compression channel and cavity back do completely different things. Compression channel increases the area with maximum COR, and cavity back pushes CG forward for lower spin.
Thats what I took away from the Oven. We asked about the channel.
I'm going out on a limb and saying the Covert was a bust. :vava:
I hate to see you say this. I went and tested the SLDR, Covert Tour 2.0, Big Bertha Alpha and 913D3 side by side. All of them had the 757 speeder except for the d+ in the titleist. It came down to the SLDR and the Covert with the Covert winning in ball speed, forgiveness, consistent impact (smash factor), and distance by 8 yards over the SLDR. Had the TM rep do everything he could to out the Covert, for me it could not be done. I didn't really want the Nike to win, but it was the best. Then after the testing I threw in my Speeder TS 6.2 and I dropped about 400 more rpm of spin and picked up a few more yards with continued forgiveness. My wallet lost that day.

Little disappointed about the tour feedback indicating it is not as soft as the 913, but if the numbers are better it will be hard to keep out of the bag. Hope the sound doesn't get in the way, that's why I traded the R11 for the 913.

One of my sources has also said that the 915 fairways/hybrids will use the same adapters. The slot will be deeper and thinner and the weight will be more forward like the FD.

I just wish they would release everything at the same time and sooner than Oct/Nov. Looking forward to the 915 and the new iPhone releases.. :)

What I was told straight from the higher ups at MRC is that these are going to be the stock options going forward just like the 913 line. The Diamana B, W(soon to be new Redboard) and Fubuki line will be the high end after market shafts with the Kuro Kage and Bassara series right after and these falling in line just like the older + series.

What's up with all the xerox comments? Compression channels, speed slots etc. None of those were even new tech when they first came out. I remember there was a channel on the sole of my old Tourstage X Drive driver, that was 10+ years ago and I'm not even sure that was the first time the technology appeared on a club. Love the look of the new 915, very stealthy.

To answer your question. You can innovate by taking what Titleist has created, which is a high moi spin machine and create a better launching club. Titleist is also the highest launching and highest spinning and also one of the shortest drivers in testing. More launch + more spin = accurate, forgiving and short. This all has to do with their CG placement being so far back from the face. As soon as Titleist gets on the low and forward CG wagon, which sounds like the 917 or 919 line they will have a winner. The only path to more distance is launch it higher with less spin. They will get it soon enough...4-5 years after TaylorMade gives them the blueprint...

Innovation does not need to be max Cor. Innovation is doing things differently to achieve better results. Could you imagine what Nick Watney could do with a SLDR...if he scrubbed 800 Rpms of spin he would hit it 30-40 yards further with the same swing. Instead he averages under 300 yards with ball speeds in the 170's. Pretty sad.
