Seniors Only. How far do you hit the ball?

Recommended Posts

74 here and I I just got a like new 10.5 2019 Callaway Epic Flash Star Driver with the 30-40 gram shaft and did hit it back to 200 the last time I played. That's about 30 yds farther than I was getting down to but I hit my FW and hybrids farther. For example I hit my Callaway 5 wood 185 to the green off the deck. ?? Why can't I get 200 every time I hit my drive? (Poor weight transfer to my front foot and no pushoff). I need help and am gong to see about that this year.

Have a look at the following video. I got a bit out of it.

I'm 67 years old, and my driver averages about 210 yards, 230 if I bust one really well. My 7 iron is about 130 yards. Last year I got back into playing golf after a 15 year hiatus, and I was shocked at how much distance I had lost. At my peak I could drive a ball 260 yards, and my 7 iron was 150 yards like clockwork. I'm afraid those days are behind me now. I look for accuracy now, which wasn't always the case when I was younger.

61 here.  Driver SS 100-102, carry distance about 275-280.  7 iron 177-182.  Thankfully haven’t seen a noticeable distance loss as yet.  Still able to keep up with most.

Oh, I almost forgot.  I live at 6,400 feet😉

77 Years old.  Driver Probably 210 under regular conditions. August conditions more like 240 .  Hit it low and let it roll,   7 Iron,  140 yards with a smooth swing.    Lots of arthritis restricts swing but good fundamentals keep contact solid resulting in low scores,   When I was 61   I averaged 248 one year so yes, I've lost a little with age..

Lots of strong number posted above by guys older than me.  C'est la vie.  We all can't be good.

The last few rounds have been interesting with soft conditions and no roll.  Gives a fella a pretty good idea of actual carry distances with irons and real world numbers with woods/hybrids albeit under fall conditions here in the NE.  From yesterday with soft conditions, no wind and ~60°F via GPS:

Driver:  185

3 wood:  173

3 hybrid:  159

4 hybrid:  151

7 iron:  122

8 iron:  109

PW:  90

I'm 63 and have back issues, hence 3/4 swings are the order of the day.  Playing the clubs in my signature, all regular flex.  The numbers would suggest senior flex and I have a set, but I struggle with the light weight.

Club distances look pretty good to me. 69 years old, my back is in good shape but knees and feet have bad arthritis issues. I've gotten used to being the short knocker in the group, playing from the senior tees at least make getting a GIR a reasonable challenge.

Same age and after an 8 year layoff with back problems, these are almost my exact numbers.

I got stuck behind a slow paced senior yesterday who was playing from the white tees on the short Executive course I play.

He was hitting his driver farther than I was hitting my 5I, but I was hitting far fewer shots.  On the last hole I moved back to the whites and took just three shots to reach the green.

A 5I to within range of my 7I for an approach shot, a 7I to just off the green between two bunkers, and a SW to get on the green in three.  Then a two putt for bogey.

I've only been playing for just over a month.  Hitting the same few GI/SGI irons all the time has really helped my accuracy.  I've been playing with 4 irons and a putter.

I can walk really fast with such a light bag. 😀

Would it be at all helpful to know what us middle aged guys hit yardage wise?

If you're anything like the two fellows I played with on Monday, then 250 off the tee would be about right.  Damn they hit the ball a long way!!! 💣💥

Hi,

I'm 65  years old. I lost distance over the last two years. In the beginning of this season (2022) I was hitting 211-219. Not good. I decided to do something about it. That something was a better technique. I began to figure out just what was causes the ball to go far. It's always been "club speed." But now it appears as if a better setup and tempo is my key to better distance off the tee. I have experimented with a setup that yields a much more straight shot instead of a cut or draw off the tee. When the ball is going straight it goes further (no wasted distance moving left and right). As far as tempo, I have discovered that the middle of my chest and the club head must go back and come through absolutely together. This creates a smooth application of my body mass (6'2" and 230 lbs) to the ball. My body does not lead the clubhead, not does it lag behind the clubhead. Better technique is the key. I'm no Bubba Watson, but I'm back up to around 240 (maybe 250 with some wind assist). What's important is that the tee shots are STRAIGHT. This extra distance and predictability has opened up the game for me. I'm hoping for a landmark season this year.

Knocking hard against 65, I'm capable of 260-280 with my driver and most times in the short grass too! Had some downwind drives break 300 in Houston last winter, much to my amusement and the annoyance of the playing partners.  Irons are equally long.  7I goes 160-165 as an example.  SW is good to about 80 yards out.   One knee replaced and the other is on borrowed time.  Back is still good thankfully.  Exercise regularly and toss the small dumbbells 3 times a week.
