Just played with black again. I just used it on holes that I needed good score on. Still awesome. Checks nicely around greens and feeling is great of putter. Still only small issue is the durability.

Don’t you need a good score on every hole ?

Cobra F7+ - Stiff
Callaway V-Series 3 & 5 wood with Aldila Rouge Silver
Srixon 585 5-AW - Modus 105 Stiff
Ping Glide 2.0 Stealth 53 & 58 Degree
EVNROLL ER5
Srixon XV - Yellow

Lol. true. What I meant was there are some holes that you feel like you can do really good on. I was testing other ball yesterday but had to sneak in Snell on few holes

Couple questions for you rockstars out there.

1. Is there any difference in feel between the MTB RED in Optic finish and in White?

- Feel off the Irons, Driver, Putter etc. Clickier, softer, etc.

- Are you seeing the same amount of "check" between the two finishes on those chips and pitches?

2. Durability. How are you guys seeing the MTB Black and Red / Red in OPTIC finish for durability?

Just bought 6 dozen (mixed and matched) for a golf trip in Maine this summer and have played a lot of these "budget balls" out there include Vice, Kirkland, Cut, the older Snell Gens, Pinnacles, mass produced cheaper balls, Oncore etc. They all have their things that I like and dislike.

Thanks for the input brahs

I'd say without a doubt they are on par with other premium balls.

I marked the balls with my usual ID mark and noticed that the finish is somewhat different than other urethane balls such as Bridgestone and Callaway. Those 2 seem to have a slight tacky feel to them and the Snell is slippery.

Anyone else notice this and can comment on it?

Quasi, were those Reds? I haven't tried to mark any of mine (one of the niceties of playing yellow balls), but Red has a different cover than Black and I could see where the TPU cover of the red would not take marker as well.

Im using a Red color sharpie to mark my Snell Red golf balls. The ink stays on the cover and it didnt fade AT ALL. Even playing early with a little dew on the grass.

Before I switched to Snell, I played the Chrome Soft and used a green sharpie. My mark was always faded even after just a couple of holes.

I dont know if its the ink or the cover on the ball, but I can tell you for sure, a red sharpie on the Snell Red works great. Ive not tried any other color sharpies yet. I might test a couple this weekend.

this can be caused by the paint and finish that is used... I have seen this happen quite a bit with many balls where the sharpie will wear off over a few holes...varying paint systems can cause this to happen...

Speaking of which Dean, I know there were some initial gripes about the appearance of the RED ball due to the way the different covers accept paint etc. I thought I remembered you saying the appearance may change to look more like the Black version. Am I mis-remembering or is that being looked into?

(For the record, it doesn't bother me a bit)

you are correct.. we are working on a new paint and finishing system... as expected, these trials and formulations take some time, but we have made some great prototyping progress.. hope to have this finished by the fall... if all goes well...

I played the Snell MTB Black today and was very impressed. I would say that it is on par with every other premium ball that I have played. It lasted the whole round with minimal scuffing. I can't imagine paying more than $20/dozen for any golf ball, when there are options like this out there.

LEFT HANDED

Titleist TSR3 with Metaflex 5H shaft (currently testing the Proxima 6 stiff shaft)
Titleist TSR2 16.5 degree fwy with Ventus Red 7 stiff shaft
Ping G430 19 and 22 degree hybrids with Ventus Blue HB 8 stiff shaft
Srixon ZX7 mkii 5-PW with Fuji Axiom 105 stiff shafts

Titleist SM9 50F, 54D, 58T wedge with Fuji Axiom 105 stiff shafts
L.A.B. MEZZ Max putter with LAGP putter shaft

Aren't they 31.99 dollars, I guess without tax and no shipping, it's like 26 per dozen? Still not bad for a premium ball

I'd really like to see a MTB Red with a black cover. It seems the red scuffs different than the Black. The MTB Black, Pro V1, etc. seem get heavy scuffing but the Red seems to peel (develops fins). Granted my wedges have fresh, new, nonconforming grooves but again the Red seems to peel. It'll have 3 peel marks where the grooves seem to bite into at impact and leave a peeling/fins on the cover, where the MTB Black and other balls like it seem get more of a heavy scuffing (like the black paint scuffs, and the red peels more cover, hope that makes sense?).

Regardless besides these 2 wedges with nonconforming wedges, irons really seem to produce nowhere near the same damage to the MTB Reds. But would love to try and demo any proto type reds that may come down the line in the future :drinks:

I documented earlier about the durability of the Red. Soemthing like 80+ holes on one ball. I’ve yet to see any evidence of groove damage. Probably been through a dozen or so at this point.

I've got the black. I played 26 and a half holes with one. It looked almost brand new when it sailed into a lake... Going to play my 4th round with the MTB Black this afternoon and still on my second ball.

I'm on my 2nd dozen of the test packs and still can't make up my mind which ball I like better (they're both really good). Although the Red spins a little more on approach shots the Black seems to fly better overall. I guess it doesn't matter as both balls are pretty good and I can use either one ultimately. Enjoy the testing though.

I've gotten 72 holes out of a couple different types of balls before and 'most any ball I've ever played regularly has held up to 54 holes (three rounds) as long as it doesn't encounter gravel or pavement.

My only real tryout of the MTB Red I got roughly 27 holes and it looked exactly like it had new out of the box. And I must admit it hit a couple of trees here and there.

what is your swing speed? 5 mph?

it is amazing to see you playing that many holes with one ball.

When I really step on it I can push it up to seven or eight!

Probably helps that my wedges are really old and all of club faces are usually dirty.

As you can tell, I'm not a high spin player.

Anyone compared the Get Sum to either the Tour Soft or the 2018 Velocity?

I haven't. But, from the reviews, Get Sum is a two piece softer ball. Tour Soft and especially the velocity (have played both) are also two piece. But, they should be more firm. All three shouldn't have any green side spin.

The feedback has been few and far between on the Get Sum. But, what is out there is positive.

I really like the Get Sum. Its advertised as "soft" but to me, it actually feels a little more clicky which I like. I'm looking for similar balls to compare although the others can't complete when it comes to price. The compression of the Get Sum is 60ish but it feels much firmer than other balls in that range (Srixon Soft Feel etc...)

1+. What I remember is that GS exploded off club face with clicky feel. I play Pinnacle Soft for the feel and distance. I hope GS has more softer feel.
