Domes plays there a few times a year. I played there about 35 years ago or so. It was a uptown resort back in the day. It was a mountain type course or at he least very hilly if I recall. It was a McDonald or some famous dudes track if I recall.

 

2MT, I've played a dozen rounds there the last two years.

 

Playing customer golf there. we take turns paying and I've picked up the last couple rounds at whiskey creek. Based on the price it looks like I've picked the right round to not pay...

 

I assume it's really nice? Anything note worthy? I think we're playing early AM and then hitting up rocky gap casino. I'm going to be gone like 18 hours. Considering the following Saturday and Sunday my wife has a bachelorette party and a shower mrs 2more will probably be fine with my leaving before the family is even up and getting home after everyone is in bed.

RG casino is surprisingly not terrible. Had a 2 day golf tournament there last year and while I thought the course was miserable - the resort/park/casino was actually pretty nice.

The real explanation.

 

I don't think Siegel was keeping THDC's score, or at the very least wasn't paying attention to the score of their match at all.

 

THDC definitely wasn't paying attention to their match, and had recorded an incorrect score for Siegel on at least 4 holes.

 

After losing both matches on the 17th I said congrats, and that I hoped their match was still going. That's when they scrambled to figure it out. THDC announced Siegel was 1up, and they both played an intense hole, halved with pars.

 

Siegel wins!

 

Not.

 

THDC wins 4&3.

 

Not.

 

THDC wins 5&4. The FAbb card rules them all.

 

Congrats to THDC for taking the crown this year. Big up to Siegel as well, for finishing strong to come in second. Wacky moments, and scoring fiasco aside, two guys making big strides in their games this year came out on top. Well done, gents.

I could play Bedford Springs 80 times a season and not get tired of it. Playing there Sunday actually. Hoping the heat didn't hurt the conditions at all. Best fairways I've ever played on. Almost all greens have tiers. Very tough to make a good score there.

 

Just a really good golf experience. The number of different types of holes and shots you encounter over the course of the round is second to none.

 

Hit a 5 iron off the first tee. You can't make your round on #1, but you can ruin it with a driver. #1 is the worst hole in the course. Add 20 yards to your yardage on #4.

 

Be very mindful of your seconds on #3,#5,#13,#16 and keep them in the Fairway.

 

Pay attention to the starter when he tells you how to get to #2.

 

Most greens are slightly elevated. Take an extra half club even when it's not obvious.

Hm...to try and put on the inquisitive cap and have a thought after a Steak, Broccoli, Fries, Chocolate Cake and Ice Cream:

 

The day began like a normal Sunday in September. Granted, this was not just any original Semptember. This was WEEK 1 of the NFL Season.

 

It was also the 15th anniversary of 9/11.

 

Elsewhere, MTN was looking around trying to act like he had a shiggle before the church bells rang out. He ran at the thought of a diminutive deadman appearing suddenly behind him in his FedEx colors... If in a different manner than normal. CityGame was busy taking puffs from his pipe, Boogs was lamenting the loss of his Alex Morgan picture collection only to be consoled with his Cheyenne Woods collection. The aforementioned deadman was stirring awake in his hotel. Eagle was watching Alien and saying 'I know your pain' to the victims. GooseSMASH was still recalling those fades he hit with his driver.

 

As the match got underway, FAbb realized quickly that he was not up to the challenge but valiantly played in vain of the mighty fortress known as THDC. Siegel was not as intuitive. Dave was cool, calculated, focused... and wondering just how in the hell a junior set of clubs could be 500 bucks.

 

Eventually, FAbb became a non factor as Siegel and THDC went tooth and shotgun. Siegel thinking he's getting the best of the final while THDC steeled himself. As the dust settled, Siegel thought he had the chess match won but found that 5 turns earlier he was already in checkmate after reviewing the previous moves.

 

After finding out the result of the 3-way dance for the Match Play title, Tex drank down his sorrows as not only did Siegel not win, but neither did the Cowboys. His planned future sale of clubs to the deadman also on a lingering hiatus.

It's election season, and a lot of people around here would kill someone for a 14 of 18 percentage.

 

You played great, which is why I was shocked at the score. If you got to the bar and told me you shot 85 I would have believed you. Bit of a Jekyll and Hyde situation on every hole I guess, where you did great or terrible. You'll be dropping some more strokes off that handicap pretty soon. Hopefully before the 7s.

So the initial thought was Siegel won by 1 but THDC won by 5 - or 6?

While the "won by 1. Nope. Lost by 6" is totally hilarious, I'm still treating this year like it's our club's "Pilot Episode". Learning what works. What doesn't. There have been various issues with some of the tournaments this year.

 

Not everyone grew up playing matches and tournaments, and not every ship is as tight from christening as the Copper Lady.

 

Although, THDC does play in a league. So, wtf?

I have THDC down for a 7 on 5. 3 short of the green. 4 over the green. 5 half way back to flag, and 2 putts. At least that's how I recall it happening.

Recap Part I (Non-golf) :

 

Friday, Domes and Hoop headed up to the Bethpage parking lot early -- and much thanks to them for doing this -- to get a spot in line. They got the second spot. The guy in spot 1 was a two-some. Father and son from Texas who were in new York and decided to play Bethpage together. He got there at like 10 in the morning.

 

PQ and I rolled up in the Grey Lady, leaving Baltimore about 1:10 PM. Pretty smooth sailing until we hit the Geo Washington bridge and then it was basically a 40 mile parking lot to Bethpage. Took us probably 3 hours to travel 200 miles and then 2 hours to travel 40 miles. Hey, that's part of the deal. If you're driving out to Long Island on a Friday and you're not leaving early, you're going to sit in traffic.

 

After an UNsuccessful side-trip to get Domes some Baby Wipes, PQ and I rolled into the lot. Noticeably more dead than it was last year. We had 3 theories why. . .football season is in swing. School is in session. And the course was not in great shape (more later).

 

We were the only crew in the parking lot that even brought chairs and beers.

 

 

 

One guy there with a taco'ed mattress in the back of his SUV. One guy sleeping in the back of his pickup truck. Tex Sr. and Tex Jr. sleeping in their rental.

 

We ordered some pizza at 6:00 that wasn't going to be ready until 7:15, but it was worth the wait. Hoop went to get the 'za as I'm pretty sure I already had about 3 beers in me between 6 & 7. Neopolitan pizza that Hoop said came out of big, tiled, wood fired over. It was seriously good pizza. It had that tiny, uber-curled pepperoni on it.

 

Up at 5:00am to get our tickets the next morning after a pretty restless night. I slept better last year, solo, in the van with the van closed up. This year, PQ and I both camped in the back and left the side doors and rear doors open. Modern man just doesn't do well sleeping in the wide open.

 

 

 

Got the second tee time (8:04) when we got to the window and also grabbed 13:45. They opened two windows and the Rooks in front of us were so slow reacting that Domes could have snagged the premiere time, but that would have been a serious d1ck move. We went to get bagels nearby (again, great bagels. If you're going up and NOT getting bagels and pizza, what's up). I had a pants-alarm at the Bagel place, and really want to work it out because I didn't want to get back to the horror show of the Bethpage bathroom situation with a full bowel. Unfortunately, it was a false alarm.

 

Go into the one bathroom at Bethpage, in which every stall is taken and 3 guys are waiting to get in. Can't do it. Horrible stalls, too. Huge gaps between the door and the sides. Go down to the other bathroom where they're more like closets and finish the job. I mean, that's better than hitting balls for getting ready for a round. Am I right?

 

Played. Ate lunch there. Played again. Ate supper there. HUGE D-bag -- New York style d-bag -- hanging out at the bar that I remembered from last year. He told a joke that I didn't quite hear, but PQ recounted as, "Hillary's a d1ck and Bill's a c*nt."

 

Good one.

 

Domes and Hoop stayed in a hotel near Bethpage, while PQ and I got back into traffic and made our way to my BIL's just outside of Philly.

 

On Sunday, played a Fazio Club Corp course outside of Wilmington that was very fun, and very nice.

 

Smooth sailing for PQ and I back to Baltimore until we hit the Beltway which was a parking lot with a huge Car-B-que going on ahead of us. Took the first exit available and wended our way home through the city. I crashed with my dog, football, and beers.

Interested to see how the Ryder Cup picks come out this morning. Read last night that - allegedly - these picks were made weeks ago. I had read that the three this morning were going to be JB, Kucher and Berger but I couldn't find that this morning - maybe it was deleted because I'm almost positve Shackleford posted it last night.

 

Definitely seems apparent that Tiger had a real say in who was playing and has already drawn up a full schedule of who's going to pair with who and when they'll be going out.

 

God I love the Ryder Cup - I know some people just dont watch it but it is by far my favorite golf event. Always take the day off from work to watch Friday's matches, going out the night before for my birthday this year, just cant wait for it.
