Golf Center of Des Plaines driving range reopened with the same concrete mats in place. Ugh.

 

I went this weekend. I can’t believe they spent money to re-turf the range and didn’t upgrade the mats.

Played Cantigny today, Lakeside/Hillside. Perfect conditions. Course is still in excellent condition with exception of no bunker rakes.

 

 

I once got screamed at for having a push cart on the tee box.

It was pretty stunning.

I told him that my 200 lbs in soft spikes is doing a lot more damage.

Yeah, Cantigny needs to chill the F out, especially their prices. Only play there during off-season which is still pricey. Love the courses but refuse to pay $115 for 18. Can play 36 at Prairie Landing for less than that during peak season. They do have an amazing practice facility though...

Saturday and Sunday look mild, with highs in the low 50's. This may be it for the year in our area.

 

I booked a round at 8:33 am on Sunday at Mt Prospect GC. There's room for one more player if anyone is interested.

I was at Redtail a couple weeks ago. The course was in really good shape (except #2 was still swampy). You should have a good time.

No, it wasn't wet at all however I don't think they've cut or rolled the greens in awhile. Was pretty bumpy-patchy. Very inconsistent.

... Played Naperbrook today or more accurately walked and practiced at Naperbrook. Huge hole aeration on bumpy shaggy greens and fairways are basically light rough. At least I got in some swings before heading to Orlando Tuesday for 14 days when the temps drop into the 20's for awhile. And for $12 I am not complaining about the conditions on Dec 1st and am happy I got some time in before leaving.

No, it wasn't wet at all however I don't think they've cut or rolled the greens in awhile. Was pretty bumpy-patchy. Very inconsistent.

 

No reason to cut them at this time of year, especially with frosts the last few nights

Nice round this morning at Glencoe. After a 30 minute frost delay, we were out on the course. The fairways and greens were in very nice shape. The greens were rolling slow, but pure. The bunkers hadn't been groomed in some time, and there were no rakes, so they were true hazards.

 

Decent day ballstriking, even with the multiple layers of clothes. A pair of birdies helped offset the five bogies. The putter was working pretty good all morning, and I burned a few edges that would have been nice to drop.

We were the first group out at Redtail today. There was some noticeable frost on the ground so I asked the guy in the pro shop if there was going to be a delay. He looked at me like I was crazy for even considering that. It was only about 30 degrees when we teed off so the greens were pretty frozen for the first five or six holes, but the course has dried out nicely, except for holes 7. On that hole they put down a bunch of sand near the green since that's where water tends to pool. The greens hadn't been rolled but, with overnight frost there's really no reason to do that. My ball striking was pretty good with my long irons and my PW was sharp, but I need to adjust a bit to the feel of my 8 and 9 since I re-shafted my irons. The swing weights with DG S300s in them were all over the place (ranged from D1 to D4) so having everything be at D2 will be great for me long term but will take some getting used to. I had one birdie on 7 and just missed a couple more birds on 2 and 13. 78. HoE tomorrow morning. Hopefully that's not my last round of the year but it's supposed to get really cold next week.

Played Mt. Prospect today. 10:30 tee time I joined a threesome. Didn’t play well on the front and finally got a good stretch on the back. Course is definitely tough around the greens. Plenty of 3 putts today. Definitely have to get back here in season next year. Only thing I was a bit miffed with was the $43 rate to walk. Was cheaper to book online with a cart. I called since I was planning on walking. Just seems a bit high for off season golf. I may just be used to the pricing by home in western lake county.

HoE had a long frost delay and, with a full tee sheet, Bear and I would have definitely been chasing a cart. Plus, they now shave a grand total of $1 off the rate to walk. We bailed and played Oak Grove instead. Good decision. The course was, as always, completely empty and, despite some frost still on the ground, they let us out as soon as we got there. It was a much better day ball striking and I hit it really well off the tee. The greens were pretty bad on the front nine but some on the back had healed up from when they were punched. I had back-to-back birdies on 6 and 7 and thought I’d be in position for another on 9 only to have the ball rocket off the green like it had hit the parking lot. With no sun exposure on that green, I went from potential birdie (my ball mark was pin high and three feet from the cup) to bogey. Still, I’ll take a 75 to more than likely finish the season. If this is it, it was a pretty solid year. I played 105 rounds and got out in all 12 months.

After an hour and a half frost delay I got out on Mt Prospect this morning. I agree with AndyC, $43 w/ no walking discount is a bit of a rip off. The greens were pretty bad. Bumpy and as slow as I played on all fall. Our group was leaving putts 4 to 6 feet short at times. Almost unplayable.

 

'Decent round with two birdies. The highlight of the day was the par 3 4th, playing 230 yards to a back right pin. I planned and executed a perfect fade with my 3 wood that landed on the front of the green, and rolled to the back right, missing the pin by what looked like inches. The ball wound up just off the green in the back. I was able to get up and down for a par. 'Very tough hole today.

Got out to Gleneagles Red for what appears to be the last round of the year. Needless to say - it was WINDY! 200 yard 7 I? Check! 160 yard 4i? Check! Started out like ?- bad swing after bad swing, resulting in 41 (par 34). Started playing little better on the back and wound up with even 80. Got hit in the leaf ear by a slightly offline tee ball (sitting in the cart between 10th and 11th). Boy did it hurt! It was partially our fault (should have waited for the group in front to finish teeing off). They did yell fore, but by the time I heard it, the ball had already bounced (thank God!) and only had time to turn my head sideways.

Played Midlane Sunday morning.

Slight delay for the frost. The grounds were in fine shape and the greens were pretty fair.

We had a great time.

Heard they would close Tuesday.
