I listened to Mark Crossfield's conversation with the Mizuno designer yesterday (I believe his name is Vosh) and found it interesting that his take on the MP5 is that it's an "MP32 on steroids." Good explanation that 3d CAD technology and sound engineering wasn't available back when the 32's were developed. So it's plausible that 5's might in fact be better. I play the 32's and have loved them - so it's hard for me to imagine something better.

Think I'll take my 32 6 iron to Golfsmith next week and see if I can tell the difference....if so, I'm in.....unfortunately.

I'd been reading a lot about these clubs, so I went in to the local golf shop to try them out. They only had the 6 iron in the 25's, and the 5, but I was able to hit them both.

I must say, that this was one of the nicest looking clubs I've ever seen. I was able to hit them with a bunch of different shafts, and I found the Nippon 950 the best fit for me.

I hate when I do this, because the next day, I ended up ordering 4-6 in the MP25's, and 7-P in the MP5's. Loved the look of the 5's better, but had a little better results with the 25's in the longer clubs. I'll be keeping my AP2's for a backup set, but I'm pretty excited to try Mizuno's. Received an e-mail this morning saying my clubs have been delayed, so hopefully it's only a few days.

Not sure how anybody who loves golf couldn't look at these clubs, and not think there straight up sexy!

I ordered my 8-P without ever hitting them or seeing them in person, which makes it that much more exciting. I have no worries that I will get on fine with em, but love hearing all of this great feedback.

I went for a fitting yesterday on the MP25 - MP5, as I was thinking combo set. WOW MP5's are sweet feeling. Oddly I hit the MP5 way better then I hit the MP25??? Did not expect that. After testing pretty much all shafts options the best for me was the Nippon 1150 (gave unreal dispersion from S300's I play now... all within a 3-4 yards circle of each other...sold on Nippon for that...feel was awesome too but not sure how much is the head)

Distance was about 2-3 yards better from S300's using now so not a huge gain. There was a few longer shafts, couple of yards but no where near as accurate for me.

The only issue was launch with the S 1150 was a few degrees higher then we would want, decent was good though. I assume the 1150 is a Mid Launch shaft??? The fitter thought we might go X flex and soft step but Mizuno says they do not provide or order in X flex.

Hit the MP5's in the simulator at the golf shop today. Pure mizuno butter! I HAVE to get a set. Best feeling (non-bladeish) mizuno irons since the 32s and I've had most of them (MP 59, MP 53,MP 63, MP69all in search of that 32 feel). The most interesting part for me was that I have always hit x100's but they had the fitting cart there and no one was watching so tried a bunch of other shafts (KBS, CTapers, PX , bunch of different DGs). Seemed to hit the kbs tour 130x the furthest and straightest. Felt so damn smooth too! Great combination.

I don't know much about spin and launch numbers for irons, but here is what I remember: the spin was 4700-5000, 27 height number (not sure what that means) and consistently at 14.5 degrees launch with the 6 iron fitting head. Are those good numbers? I liked how they were straight, soft, and pretty decent length. I was averaging about 195 total with a low of 181(thin to win baby!) and a high of 207 (on a big draw- that's what everyone else calls a hook). Where as the x100s were in the 180's seemed soooo heavy compared to the KBS X. I had hit a friends Bridgestone j15MB with the KBS Tour x 130 on the range and loved the flight and feel. Thought it was the head but now after this it maybe the shaft? Should I order the MP5's with the KBS tours?

I've really been having to work at the x100s lately to get them to the spots I want. Maybe my age and knee surgeries are catching up with me and don't have the beast mode swing as much? Last time I did the Mizuno fitting for a set of MP 63's the optimizer suggested x100, kbs tour x, and PX 6.5 but my dispersion that time was best with the x100s. I was also under 40 back then...
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

It would be about 1/3 of a flex stiffer. Bring flight and spin down very slightly. If you want it closer to an X you can hard step it twice.

This is going to be a strange question, but how do the MP5 compare to the MP 60?

The MP60 was my favorite iron of all time and the last Mizzy I owned. I hit the ball so well with those all the the way through the set. Since then have moved on to a few iterations of the AP2 and now am playing the Callaway X Forged. But I miss that Mizzy knife-through-butter feel.

I've tested the MP5 at the local GG, but that was just with a 6 iron and it was indoors into a simulator. Loved the feel. But just wondering if they will be forgiving *enough* in the 4 and 5. FWIW "enough" would be MP60 or MP59 like.

Based on what you've said, I would lean towards "yes" - I owned both the MP 32 and MP 60 and for my money, the MP 60 weren't any more forgiving - That said, the MP 5s are at least as forgiving as the 32s (if you're okay with narrower soles) - If you're not super comfortable past the 6 iron, look at 4/5 iron in the MP 25s...

So I got the chance to check out the MP-5 for a few hours alongside the MP-4, MP-15, and others. I also had my MP-32 6 iron with me. All I can say is that if you're an MP-32 fan then you have to love the MP-5. To me it's every bit as good and probably even better, but I'm withholding final judgement until I can test more than just the 6 iron. It was also very clear to me that the MP-4 is a much more unforgiving blade that really is only for the most skilled players/. The MP-5 is a very approachable muscle back design even if you don't hit it dead center every time.

+1

Also took my MP32 6 iron to the range today to compare with MP5. The MP5 actually felt more solid to me than the MP32 when well struck and mis-hits came off better too with only minor distance loss. I also noticed that the 5 came off lower in trajectory than the 32 (using DGSL R300 + 1/2") which is a pleasant surprise.

Before buying my 32's I had bought 60's thinking they'd be more forgiving. They were but not noticeably so and while smooth did not have the butter feel of the 32's. I say this because I was contemplating MP25/MP5 combo, but not wanting to make same mistake twice I'm seriously considering 4-P in the 5's.....so for those on the fence about combo I recommend you try them both AT THE RANGE before deciding.

Someone earlier had said the MP-5's might be the next milestone iron for Mizuno. Me thinks they're right......

I hit the MP 5's tonight, brought my MP 69 with me to compare. i really like the feel of the MP 5, I played around with shafts and found the PX6.5 with the MP5 to be the ideal combo for me. Distance was about the same compared to the 69, but the MP 5 dispersion was smaller. I intentionally tried to hit a few off the toe, (my miss) and found the dispersion to be a littler better over the 69. All in all the MP 5's seem to be great, I really like my MP 69's, so I'm not in a rush to switch, but if you like the 32's and the 69's you'll like these.

I know I'm crazy, but I'm seriously thinking about replacing my MP-64 8, 9, and PW with the MP-5's. What's crazy is that I have a slow swing speed, and play lightweight steel shafts (Nippon Pro 950's), and should probably be looking at the 25's. However, I've been striking my scoring clubs rather well lately, and the 5's just look oh so good.

I just picked up a used set of MP-15's to try out, and if the 5's don't work out, the 15's would likely be in the bag for a few years.

15's - 64's - 5's are nice options to have in the scoring irons.

I don't think your crazy at all. The MP5 is very easy to hit from 6 iron down..! Have not hit a 4-5 yet though. I was hitting the MP5 better then the MP25 with the same shaft in both..... Nippon 1150 GH tour Stiff. Thinking I will pull the trigger this winter so I can use the down time to get used to them.

I had an MP-H4 5 iron in the bag for a while. Didn't like it. Tried the JPX-825 Pro. Didn't like it. I replaced my long irons with hybrids with much better success, so I'm now down to the scoring irons. I'm sure if I can hit an MP-64 (7, 8, 9, P), I can hit an MP-5.

There's just something about the MP-5 that work for me. Seem to be shockingly easy to hit. Haven't played blades since 2013 but my scoring doesn't seem to change with the irons I use. These really seem to blend MB feel and looks with CB like forgiveness. I'm thinking a set of Yoro Craft 5-P in satin, W grind, slightly straighter topline and sharper toe, no paint fill with Modus 125. ?

There's just something about the MP-5 that work for me. Seem to be shockingly easy to hit. Haven't played blades since 2013 but my scoring doesn't seem to change with the irons I use. These really seem to blend MB feel and looks with CB like forgiveness. I went from the MP-32's to the MP-64's. Loved them both but the sole grind of the MP-64's and the overall feel sold me and caused me to skip the MP-4's.

So far I've only hit the MP-5 6 iron with my current shaft of choice, KBS Tour S. Not really fair to judge an entire set off of one iron, but after hitting about 30 balls, I kinda feel pretty déjà vu as far as any significant differences between the 5's & the 64's.

I love the look of the 5's but will need to hit the 8-PW before I would consider moving over to the 5's. I've been wondering why they completely discontinued the 64's. Now I think maybe I have an inkling beyond, "because it was time."

That certainly isn't crazy and is one of the great things about mizuno irons in terms of how easy it is to customise your iron choices.

Very true. I've toyed with various combinations of 57's, 60's, 62's, 53's, 54's, H4's, 64's, and 68's through the years. As I get older, (and smarter), and my bag sees an increasing number of hybrid clubs, it's getting cheaper to play around with the set up, as I have fewer irons to swap. That said, it's going to cost me a pretty penny to reshaft the MP-15's that I just picked up. Unless I can find a used set of Nippon 950GH shafts, they'll wind up costing almost as much as a new set. I'll probably start with a single iron.

Just come back from trying the MP5s (today is their release day in Japan). Not bad. Bit hard to get a true impression of them as I only hit the 7 iron (shafted with a DG S200) off a rather odd mat. Also the grip was worn and too thin for me. I was trying a MP69 alongside for comparison, and the MP5 won hands down. I was feeling a tendency to turn the ball over, but that was most likely down to the grip and shaft.
I think they are a shade more forgiving than the MP4s, but the 4s feel more solid on well-struck shots. I would certainly like to demo them again with a better grip on the club.

Was finally able to hit them and they feel great! They look a little bit larger than your typical MP blade but the forgiveness is def there.
