I've been demoing the MP 5 and MP 25s extensively over the last couple weeks and I'd agree that in terms of forgiveness, there's not a tremendous difference 7 iron up - For me, hitting irons in a simulator or on the range is one thing - where I can hit 10 balls in a row - but hitting them on the course is different, when you might go an entire round and only hit 5 iron once...or not at all -

With that in mind, I really noticed the difference in forgiveness in the 3-6 irons where I found the MP 25s to be a fair bit better -
So you've been demoing them on course? Is your miss fat/thin or is it more heel/toe? On the simulator the 5's gave me better distance control...
Yes, I'm one of the equipment editors for WRX and am working on the new Mizzy irons - My miss is 90% thin and 10% chunky - Thin isn't a terrible miss with the MP 5s, but fat certainly is - neither heel side nor toe side hits feel or perform very well - distance loss is 10+ yards - If you can hit it in the middle of the face or Johnny Miller's "one groove low" the MP-5s are pretty salty

Well I'm waiting for your review, even though I already pulled the trigger on the 4-6 iron in the MP-25 and 7-P in the MP-5 :)

I'm looking forward to your review. In terms of feel, how does it compare to the mp 64 or even the 4's?

Yep pattern sounds pretty close to me too. Was really hoping the 5's might be playable enough for me to replace the 53's, but if the penalty on heel/toe misses is 10+ yards, I'll probably stay away. Played the 53's for four seasons now and found them surprisingly forgiving. Don't lose nearly as much distance on thinnies and slight heel/toe misses.

I've almost ruled out the 25's because I had trouble with distance control. For me, the 5's were much more spot on for yardages. This was on the simulator but I don't expect it could get any better on course.

I have several rounds in on these irons. Must say I am very pleased. Very consistant in yardages, nice trajectories, able to flight and move the ball a bit. Nice Mizuno feel, on par with my MP4's. Could be the shaft, but distance is a half a club more. All in all, looking to be a great set of irons. Scoring wise has been equal to the MP4'S, mid seventies. Very pleased.

Curious why guys would bother mixing in MP25s? If you feel the need to mix, why not just buy a full set of 25s? I'm a mizzy guy and I'm considering what to do, hard to resist these new offerings....so good looking at address. Although I currently play MP68s, I'm tempted to go all in on a set of 25s....they apparently have less offset than the MP5s. I also got a chance to look at them recently and Mizzy knocked it out of the park in the address position. The short irons look great. My biggest dilemma is whether to go with Ctapers in stiff hard stepped once or to go with them in X and have them soft stepped 2x. Any opinions on that???? Splitting hairs here I'm sure. The added weight of the X might be nice.

The MP5's are impressive. I am enjoying some fun rounds. I am sure these irons will
find their way into players bags. Give these irons a tryout at the range, you might be
surprised at how responsive and easy these are to strike,

Think MP 64 meets Mp 4
I have both, and the soles are very close. that said, as much as I like the MP4's, the
MP5's offer a touch more ease of play. Its really a nice balanced set of irons. Best bet,
compare and put them to your own test. They remind me more of how the MP68's played.
Which was another fun set of irons.

For me, I had better dispersion in the long irons with the 25's. I just loved the look, and feel of the 5's, so I ordered them in the 7-P. I don't think you can go wrong any way you order. It's more of a preference for me.

So basically everyone is doing it because the MP5s are so pretty.....not from a true performance perspective. I'm cool with that....many a time have I gone for aesthetics over substance.....girlfriends and golf clubs alike.

When you hit the 3-6 irons in the MP 25 they are very responsive, and don't lose a lot of distance when you slightly miss it. I went with a combo of the 5's from 7-PW because the feel in the scoring clubs is just awesome with the 5's but I need help with longer irons thus ordering the 25's. It's a great opportunity to have a truly amazing combo set from Mizuno, with Mizuno feel and turf interaction. I liked it so much, that it displaced my AP2 trend which has been in place since the 710's.

Question, Mizuno says they have a channel in the back of the MP-5. Is it sort of an updated version of the Cut Muscle design, albeit more sleek and less prominent?
Correct, it's not exactly like the Cut Muscle, but the general idea is still there. Chris Voshall has pointed out that the new "cut muscle" (The Channel) was designed with CAD and computers this time around and is much more tuned across the entire set of clubs to properly maintain the correct CoG placement for consistency across the heads. They didn't have this technology with the Cut Muscle series.

So you can certainly think of the Channel as an upgraded version of the Cut Muscle and after hitting the MP-5s I would have to agree that they really did nail it. The MP-5 is everything the MP-32 has been for me, but so much better.

How does the sole thinness compare to the MP-4? I prefer the thinner soles.
Not as thin as the 4. Not "fat" however.
Think MP 64 meets Mp 4
Yep. On pretty much every thing about the 5. About the same size as the 64 with the same feel (which is completely awesome) with added sexiness of the 4s. The 64s (dad) and the 4s (mom) had a kid. The mom is a 10 and the genes were passed on.

I think the MP5's enhance a players
own ability to move the ball if needed very nicely. But, as with these style of clubs,it will require a decent swing. Just like most blades, you get out of it, what you put into it. If your seeking forgiveness, look elsewhere or combo
like others. As always YMMV.

I played 9 holes today with my new set of 5s. Here are impressions, in context, with caveats:

I've been playing MP4s with 1150S straight in, and MP64s with 1150S soft-stepped 1X. Both 1/4in long and 1deg upright.

My new set of 5s are the same length, BUT 2deg upright, and the shafts are XP115 S300.

The 5s have at least as gratifying feel off the face as the 4s, and at least as much forgiveness as the 64s. The 5s absolutely have a more buttery feel than the 64s.

The shafts were perfect in the "bay" on the monitor for my swing; on the course, they will take some adjustment. The 1150s are more demanding in terms of exactly what it takes to load them. The XP115s will respond more readily to half swings, and definitely reward a smoother swing.

As stated, feel is amazing. Pure Mizuno. For my swing, the head/shaft combo is point-and-shoot; very high and very straight. I will have to work to find the knock-down swing. Apart from some experimenting at the range, I had no occasion to work the ball on the course-- there was no wind, and it was a shotgun, so not much craziness in placements. One exception: Ventana Canyon course No. 9, pin tucked in right; I hit a cut, and got just what I expected, but started it too far right, leaving me with a short chip pin high.

I welcome the responsiveness of the XPs, EXCEPT when I really go after it-- which isn't often. For my swing, I can start to feel some squirreliness if I get too aggressive.

But feel from the MP5 head? Absolutely love it. Better than my 32s; close to 67s (most underrated IMO). It is a big step forward in finding the balance among feel, positive/negative feedback, and real forgiveness.
I ordered the xp115 based on true tempers response that they are very similar to dynalite gold xp.....hit the shafts in hitting bay and pretty sure I going to yank em when my set gets here.....I wasn't a fan at all on that day, seemed very vague is only way to describe it....couldn't feel shaft loading and than bam it would just "kick".... I like to feel a stable loading and unloading, a sense of what shaft is doing throughout swing.....may just get px again or back to s300 idk
Give them a few days on the course. . . . . . . coming from 1150s, it's a much different feel.

I played 9 again this morning, and the shafts are starting to jibe with my swing. Feel of the club is head heavy; I think the balance of the shafts is different, along with the flex pattern.
just picked em up last night....I am coming off dynalite xp on last set so.....I give em 5 or so rounds, goin in few minutes to course.....I used to like switching and building clubs but now it's a PITA....so I will give em more than a fair amt of time cuz I really don't want to pull em

Damn....

These irons are absolutely stunning to look at. They look quite similar to the 64's at address, so should be an easy transition to the eye. We shall see how they perform tomorrow.

Yes, I ordered without hitting or seeing in person, but this is WRX, and it is only the 8-P, so....
