well obviously the implication was that a pretty girl caused the influx.. certainly wasnt her ball striking ...no? maybe just the fact that womens game has been steady on the rise ? or maybe the Location ? or maybe they just promted it better ? But back to the point.. if not her looks then what was the reason you were saying the viewer numbers went up?

 

IMO, she is very popular and she is the main, if not sole, reason that viewership quadrupled so people who harrumphed that she doesn't deserve to be given a sponsors invite are smoking crack IMO as it worked great for the sponsor (who is paying for the purse). Some people have Q quotient, others do not. She obviously does for whatever reason. Furthermore, I believe your comment that there could be lots of other reasons the viewership went up 4x over any other LET tournament other than that's she's quite popular (e.g., Location/Better promoted/Game steadily on the rise) is truly "laughable in terms of a logical conclusion".

 

If it makes you feel better, I agree that I see many girls as attractive or more on an hourly basis walking down the streets of NYC each day.

If the ratings were good for the final day then we know she had nothing to do with it.

 

I wish her the best, but calling her a pro, IMO, is wrong. She doesn't earn her living from tourney earnings. She can't even qualify for the semi pro's in this country. I feel bad that people make the social media comments they do but it's not like she's in the Top 1000 in the Rolex rankings.

Therefore, when a very popular albeit unranked golfer gets a sponsors invitation to an LET tournament and the ratings explode (c'mon, it's 4x better than any LET event ever), I'm more than inclined to say at a big part of it is due to her popularity. Why are people so upset by the fact that attractiveness sells, particularly in a sport where there's plenty of room for attractive women?

 

Same thing with the magazine covers - if you're offended, you should start your own media site/magazine dedicated solely to the LPGA players and see how that supports your lifestyle. It won't take you long to realize that the most popular articles on any golf publication are the pics of the WaGs of the tour.....

Where was it 4x more popular? In the US? Worldwide? In Europe or Dubai? How many LET events have been televised in the country with the ratings boom?

 

Michelle Wie has the largest marketing power in women's golf, maybe Paige has surpassed her, I don't know and won't know until later this year. What is her staying power and does she translate to anything besides eyeballs? All those things comprise marketing power.

Just to add that by this logic the Phoenix Waste Management drew it's largest crowd ever this year and Tiger did not play, so more people want to watch golf without Tiger than with.

I don't think the LPGA as an organisation would support anything other than golf - they're not about glamour, not their job.

 

Individual Tournament organisers probably have an eye on players that could bring in a crowd, but that would be players like Michelle Wie who already have LPGA wins including in her case a major, or maybe up and coming young golfers that are making a few waves because of their talent. Or in some cases one or two talented local amateurs deemed deserving of a place in a tournament.

 

None of that would apply to Paige.
