Who are these 50s/60s pros?

This is a picture on the scorecard of my home course, Hesperia Golf and Country Club, formerly on the PGA Tour from 1957-1961. I don't know these faces too well but i have guessed Gary Player, Arnold Palmer, Billy Casper maybe. Anyone know who these players are?

The guy standing next to Sam is war hero/solid pro Ted Kroll.

The guy passing out the check or holding the card really resembles Pat O'Brien who would have been about 64, but I'm probably way off on that, and don't know why he'd be a guest celebrity on a TV golf show.

Kroll ( the guy standing next to Sam ) was one of the first players to shoot a 60 on the tour.

Correct on the 1st two from the photos left being Gary Player and Arnold Palmer. The third is NOT Sam Snead. 100% sure off that. I should know his name and will find it for you.

You are doing what I did at first. Tap the photo and you'll see all 5 guys. The four pros on the wings were in a Challenge Golf match. Middle guy is some kind of host, which could be a golfer for sure, but may be TV guy or celebrity. Picture is circa 1963, or a little later, not sure how many years they did the series.

Nope, see above. The guy in the middle is the mystery, but Chi Chi wasn't a grandpa wearing glasses with thick forearms.

My guess would be that you have the club president in 1960 in the center holding the check he's about to give to Billy Casper immediately to his left, Sam Snead to Casper's left and Gary Player and Arnold Palmer standing on the other side. Probably the top 4 or the top 3 and the single round medalist.

 

If you're really motivated to find out then I'd figure out what the dates were and search newspaper archives in the region.

 

There's a wikipedia stub that says it was held on October 3rd, 1960.

Definitely not Chi Chi in the middle although the man does strike a resemblance to Rodriguez as he aged. He's the same age as Gary Player on the far left and they were both 25 in 1960.

Not Ike. Take a look at pictures of him around early 60s. He still had that Don Rickles look about him. Neither short nor thick, hairy arms.

It's actually a picture from a Challenge Golf match held at that course in 1963, or within a few years of that. Palmer and Player did a series of TV matches against different guys, Snead and Kroll played them there.

 

And I wasn't old enough to be there. ;-)

I think it's Gary Player, Arnold Palmer, Bobby Jones, Billy Casper and Sam Snead. Here is a picture of Bobby Jones in 1960 with Palmer. It looks like the same person to me.

Found it - I see parts of an article September, 1963 referring to a match to celebrate the opening of Hesperia - would the middle person be Tony Lema?

I won't swear that it's Jones, but he bears a resemblance. I believe Jones could still stand in the early 60's before he was confined to a wheelchair. His disease, syringomyelia, wasn't diagnosed until 1956. Usually in the later life pictures of Jones he's at the Masters wearing a green jacket, so of course he looked distinctive. I don't see any glasses in the OP's picture. I'm really curious about this photo and hope someone can positively confirm who it is.
