Couldn't wait to buy a TR 1966, so you bought a milled Anser?

Yeah, I couldn't wait to test a 1966, so I went with the milled anser after some sound reviews from a user. It's WRX, none of our equipment purchases make sense.

The milled Ansers are nice putters—I would rank them just below the Redwood line, but well above the newer Ping lines (Cadence TR, Scottsdale TR, and Karsten TR series). The milled Anser 0 is the only factory Ping model with full TR groves and a sound slot—so I am looking forward to seeing how a cast 1966 TR with sound slot compares to the Anser 0 with sound slot. Basically, to see if there is there any noticeable difference between milled and cast—with everything else being the same.

The Milled Ansers don't have TR grooves. They have horizontal milling on the face, much like the Rife putters.

Awesome. I did the exact same thing. By the time I would have done the starshot and sight dot I would have been into a 1966 TR for a lot more than I could buy a brand new Anser Milled 0 on Ebay. I'm a massive fan of the Anser Milled line (this will be my 3rd) so I'm going to add a sight dot and be done with it. In the end I'll have a 350g (+/-) stainless milled head in a finish and dot I want vs. taking a chance on the 1966 TR. Still looking forward to trying one though.

I'm gonna add a TOP flange line with auto pinstripe tape to help me decide on the move more perm. I have two MGBR Daleheads one with and one without top flange lines so I'm still undecided totally. I blame WRX

I'm actually waiting a little to see if Ping will resolve or change their stance on the antique finish on the 1966 TR Anser. I really want to get one of those in that finish.

There's been a good snow storm here in Utah, and I've been putting around the carpet a bit more than usual. I couldn't hold off any longer... ordered an Anser 2, star shot finish, and sound slot. Standard grip, 35" and 1 degree flat. I've gamed used ping putters my whole life. First ever new purchase.

Awesome! Live in Utah too. Who did you order through? I'm thinking of doing the same combo. Snow can make one crazy for putters :pimp:

What will the Starshot finish look like on a gold putter?

They basically just media blast the gold finish off and it comes out like a matte bare metal/silver. Google Ping starshot putter and check it out. It looks great.

Some Ping putter finish threads - I sure hope the antique finish becomes an option on the Anser

Ping doesn't have any Anser Milled head covers left. I tried to special order one last month. No dice.

It's rare when one gets on eBay: http://www.ebay.com/ulk/itm/222015522989

I had no idea the white headcovers are that rare. They are so much better than those crappy generic black ones. I have a white one in perfect condition I might be willing to part with

I was lucky enough to get a white Anser Milled head cover with my first one. The other two I've ordered from Ebay came with the cheaper black ones.

I have one of these in black for my Anser F and it's fantastic quality. I'm considering getting it in white for my Anser Milled 0:

Has anyone asked Mortons or Ping to see if the WRX dept can do an Anser 2 without the sightline?

I have the Ping Karsten TR Anser2 and like it....is the new TR1966 Anser 2 the same putter with a different finish?

I realize the cavity on the Karsten has a vibration dampner and the new TR1966 does not. Aside from this difference, are the putters the same?

The Anser 2 looks just like my Karsten TR Anser 2 - that I sent back to PING for the Starshot finish. Great putter!

Except it doesn't have the plastic piece in the cavity. That was my main complaint about the Karsten TR line. IMO it made the putter look cheap.

The new 1966 Anser 2 has a thinner top line, different shape bumpers, and it looks like there is less of a scoop/bow in the cavity pocket on the flange. Loving the clean sole too. A true throwback look.

As you can see, some small differences that add to a different look and hopefully different feel. Tri sole is the cherry on top.

Also, the 1966 is 5 grams lighter.

The new Anser 2 looks like a flat sole v. the older one having the rocker sole. Check out Toshi's answerfreak page -- it has some awesome pictures where you can see rocker v. flat. I think the look of flat soles is better than rocker. But that's personal preference.

I spoke to Ping about the TR1966 line today.

While I am not wild about the thinner top line on the Anser 2 vs the Karsten TR version, I was excited to learn that the TR1966 line will return to a stepped shaft (vs stepless).

In my option the stepped shaft (especially with the long first step) was the feature that gave the old Ping putters their exceptional feel.
