Ping Anser TR 1966

Don't think anything has been posted on here yet about these but they look pretty cool. Comes in Bronze color Anser with a sound slot and Stainless color Anser 2

The sound slot is boss hogg. I can't wait to put this in my bagg. For those that have never hit a PING putter with the sound slot your life may change after you do. I type this with no amount of over exaggeration.

Ok, so this is really weird. I just called PING customer service 1-800-474-6434to inquire about the PING Anser TR1966 and they could find no such putter. I was going to ask when it was going to be in my local retailer or if I could purchase directly and how much.

 

They are going to call me back. What the hell?

Pricing isn't set yet. Only 2 models for now Anser / Anser 2. Was told you can add dot / sightline to the anser on topline or flange, as well as add sound slot to the #2.

All this through the WRX dept. 1966 is the 50th year anniversary for the Anser so that is why only the 2 versions. PP58 rubber grip is standard.

Lastly - ALL putters moving forward will have the TR grooved face.

By the way - the bronze color is actually more shiny copper ( like a new penny ) in person and is a plated finish.

The direct link still works, but if you go to Ping.Com and go to Putters, it isn't there anymore. I can confirm that when the thread was first posted, the TR 1966 category appeared under Putters. Additionally, you could see the TR 1966 putter category as the last one in their carousel on the Putters page, but now they appear to have taken it down. I did send a tweet to Ping to ask about the line after I posted here, so maybe it's partially my fault for "alerting" them.

Side note, I contacted Morton golf too to see if I could get the anser 2 with no sight line but was told they wouldn't. Damn shame, that's my dream putter right there. Hope they will release a Bubba replica I guess.

Hopefully more durable than the PVD finish on the Karsten TR line.

 

Edit: as per Ping website, it's a PVD Manganese Bronze finish. Nuts...
