I guessing these will be cast stainless, so starshot on the Anser model should be available.

The Anser 2 looks just like my Karsten TR Anser 2 - that I sent back to PING for the Starshot finish. Great putter!

I'm not going to be the first in line to buy one of these but I will have the Anser 2 in my arsenal at some point. If Ping WRX can do the starshot on the Anser I will probably add a sight dot and buy one of those too.

Except it doesn't have the plastic piece in the cavity. That was my main complaint about the Karsten TR line. IMO it made the putter look cheap.

The new 1966 Anser 2 has a thinner top line, different shape bumpers, and it looks like there is less of a scoop/bow in the cavity pocket on the flange. Loving the clean sole too. A true throwback look.

i happened upon this as well on the ping website when the TR 1966 was live. Hope it's released officially really soon. I've got to snatch this up. I wish you could just get a sight dot put on the Anser 2. Does the shaft of the Anser 2 enter the putter head closer to the heal vs. the original Anser? Also, forgive me because I'm still rather new to Ping putters, what is the benefit of the "sound slot" on the Anser?

And this ^^^ is why I'm going to need to buy one. Never purchased a brand new putter but this one is special. Hope the price is the same as Karsten TR. I will gladly send Ping $165 as a thank you.

Since we're talking about what we want:

 

I would like the 1966 Anser TR with the Anser Milled 6 stubby neck, sight dot, star shot, 345-350g head weight.

 

Make it happen Ping :) I can't currently afford to have the WRX to make me one from scratch.

Slighter would be able to do all the above for a pretty reasonable price. Would still be less then other high end OTR putters and be a one off custom ?

It's a slot cut from the sole either up through the flange or into the face. I think Ping has always gone into the flange.

 

It amplifies the sound made at impact. With the golf ball being much harder than it was in the old days, there isn't really a big demand for it anymore. It's mostly a custom offering, so when something with a sound slot comes to retail, it gets some people excited.

 

You'll either love it or you'll hate it. Personally, I love them.

That Anser is calling to me. Starshot finish, black sight dot on the top rail, oh baby. Which is a problem because I'm putting really well with my Redwood Anser right now, with the custom blacked out Redwood Anser in the wings, and my Ketsch Mid heavy just itching for a chance to get in the bag. And the blacked out Zing 2 just chilling in the office.

 

I may or may not have a PING putter problem.
