I have read most of this thread, but how do the 2014 APEX's compare to the CF 16's? Forgiveness, Playability, or Distance Control..

In about ten rounds, I have noticed one 'flyer'. A 9 iron off the tee on a par 3 that went straight over the flag, over the green and out of bounds. Cost me two strokes but what a beautiful shot. Only now I worry that that was actually my only true good strike in ten rounds

Not sure if you were serious based on the end of your post, but if so, not thinking the "flyer issue" relates to anything beyond the 7, as the 8+ are not the hollow cup face design.

Maybe it's not the cup face, but something else. Maybe i just hit one freaky good shot, or had the wind in my back. I don't recall any overly long shots with the longer irons.

just bought these and uber happy with them so far- only 3 range sessions as winter storms here but they are going the distance I expect them to go, forgiveness is way better than my current muscle blades, and playability? whats that, hitting a draw or fade...yup, can do

I just ordered a set with the Nippon modus 3 130 shafts at no up charge which is a great deal, was thinking steelhead xr pros but I just had a set of new xr steelheads which I traded for the Apex cause they had a little too much off set, the steelheads with same shaft adds $35 a shaft so Apex was great deal and will complement my JPX 850 forged but I have DG 300s in those.

I hope I falling in love with the Apex.

I am now 5 rounds in with me new CF16s and I couldn't be happier. The last 3 rounds were in the mid 70's and my GIR percentage has drastically increased (up to 65%ish from 45%-50%). I am hitting these things so unbelievably far and straight. They seem to launch incredibly easy and fly forever.

I replaced my 712 AP2s with these and have seen a 15-20 yard increase throughout the bag. I am now playing my 6i from 195-200 yards (with the AP2s it was plating a 6i at 180-185). The thing I like the most over the AP2s is the forgiveness. My misses are either catching corners of greens or are just off, without losing much.. if any, distance. I am finding green side bunkers or spots where I am hitting an easy bump and run chip instead of having to pitch from 30 yards out. Yesterday, for example, my swing was a little off. I was wasn't hitting it well. with my AP2s I maybe would have hit 6 or 7 greens. With the CF16s, I still managed to hit 12 greens. Sure, I had longer putts than I wanted, but they were on the green.

Through 5 rounds, I have had one swing which I was surprised by how far it went. I don't really consider it a flier as I hit it like absolute crap. I'm assuming the missed swing took spin off the ball and it flew. It was a nasty pull and was missing the green regardless. But I was a bit surprised when I got to it to see it was past the green, even though I hit it like crap. Any swing which I have put on it that was 'good' in feel, ended up being just about the distance I was anticipating.

I will say, given how high these launch, I have had to make some more adjustments while playing on breezy days. They seem to get impacted more than other irons I have played (I am also hitting them a lot higher). So it seems into the wind they get held up a little more and down wind they really want to jump. What I was playing as a 1 club wind with my AP2s, I am finding myself playing more like a 1.5 club wind with these.

Bought a set of these last year and I haven't been as happy with a set of irons since my MP52's I played for years. I don't hit it very far, but I feel like these max out everything I have and they are unbelievably forgiving for how much you can actually get out of them. I ended up switching my entire bag from Mizuno/Taylormade/Scotty to 100% Callaway and a Scotty putter. Callaway made me a believer.

Has anyone compared these to the M1 irons? I don't really care about the distance but I would like some help if I toe it.

I went to the CPO site today since there is a % sale going on. I browsed the Apex CF16 individual irons and was able to piece a set of 5-PW together with DG S400 Tour Issue all with standard specs in very good to like new condition for $460 shipped. I'm currently playing a set with Modus 130 stiff and they are excellent!

I bought and tried the CF16 with KBS tour X but the distance is not consistent. I tried with Modus 130 but it become worst and have baloon issue so i am back with Legacy Black.

Like the look of these irons a lot. Curious to get some feedback with regard to the available shafts. I'm a high ball hitter so would like something to help keep the trajectory down. I also like a little heavier shafts. Not crazy heavy, but something in the 110-120g range with a stiff flex. Any direction on this that would pair well with these heads would be great.

Got the Steelhead Pros this week, thought they were going to kick the CF16's out of the bag, nooooooooooooo chance. Have both in the Recoil black shaft and there is no comparison, the CF16's are more solid and the feel is so much better. Should have saved my money and trusted my CF16's they are the best.....

I had the new stealheads, was going to go with pro version for the less offset but more I thought about it decided on Apex, glad I did. With modus 130 shaft a free up charge was good move cause my ball flight was too low, wedge flight was more like most guys 5 iron, now you actually have to look up to watch. The steelheads felt hard when hit and Apex with the modus shaft can't hardly feel it.

I did an iron fitting over the weekend and I narrowed all the options I tried down to the Apex and the Z565. I agree with the post above that a flushed shot with the Apex feels extraordinary. My numbers showed more consistent performance (by a hair) with the Z565--I was getting better results on my misses, for lack of a better term. Going to go with the Srixon, but I wouldn't have any hesitation about playing the Apex. Really nice feel.

Did you try the Mizuno JPX 900 Forged by chance?

I did. Fit both the Forged and the Hot Metal, as well as the i200. I had an issue on the Trackman with both of the Mizunos with outliers--would hit shots that only spun about 4200 rpm that would fly ten yards further. Spin rates were much more consistent for me with the Z565 and Apex (between 5800 and 6000). I was definitely focused on consistent distance and shot dispersion.

Bought these as a spare travel set. I ordered a set of preowned described as "Good" but when they arrived they were in very poor condition. When I called to have them replaced, the rep was understanding and helped me out. He sent a replacement set that were in very good condition, and they arrived in just two days. So after initially being disappointed I was nicely surprised. Now if @#$&*! Spring ever actually arrives here I might be able to test them out on a course

How do these compare to the JPX Hot Metals? I'm debating the two irons and the flier issue is scary

Might be too late but I've been trying to kick out the CF16's for over a year, I tried the JPX 900 Forged, Cobra Forged Tec, Apex Pro's, Srixon 565, 716 AP2's, PSi Tour and M2 Tour and none of them came close except the JPX Hot Metals. I left the CF16's in my home club bag, use the JPX Hot Metals for my travel bag and the 565's live in my Myrtle Beach Condo.

I've found that the JPX Hot Metal and CF16's are very similar, the CF16's feel a bit better but they are close in terms of distance and turf interaction. Obviously you need to compare them yourself but I think you'll like them both.
