Callaway Apex CF16 - BEST. IRONS. EVER......

I hit the Steelheads a couple of days ago. I play the CF16s and I think the CF16s are much nicer feeling. I did not mind the looks of the Steelheads at all and could bag them if it was not for these great feeling Apex irons!

The cf16 have shown a 3-4 week backorder on the Callaway website for like 2 months now. Anyone know if these will be back in stock soon? I may just wait for the next version at this point.

A Callaway demo day rep told me this weekend that the replacement for the CF16s have been delayed and as a result, they're scrambling to increase production on the CF16.

I've also heard directly from Callaway that they're seeing "unprecedented demand for the CF16." That could be salesmanship, but bet there's an element of truth to it. The CF16 continually wins polls for best SGI.

FWIW.

What are all doing about the reported 8 iron to 7 iron gap?

My son is having that issue with his. I've got a set but haven't put them in play. I've still got the g25's in tha bag. The cf16's have steelfiber 110's in them. I've hit them on range but not yet on course.

This makes me quite happy. I just went for my first fitting and it was down to the CF16 and the Steelhead. I went ahead and ordered CF16, but have been questioning my decision ever since. I can't wait to game them. Huge upgrade from my stock G25s.

Even though this thread is old and long and this has probably been covered ad nauseum in the prior pages I'll continue to share my thoughts on these clubs as I'm late to playing them-- Coming from the '16 Apex Pro.

I continue to get more and more fond of these despite my concerns over feel, sound, lack of spin and sometimes a distance gap between 7 and 8i.

Played 9 holes yesterday afternoon with my boys and just had an awful day striking the irons however I got some very very good results out of these clubs that I wouldn't have gotten from the Pros. 186 on the second hole and hit a 5 iron very poorly-- low on the face, awful feeling however the ball still flew 175ish took one hop and released to mid-green leaving me a 15 ft putt for birdie. That same swing with my Pro 5i and I'd have been 25 yards short. It was really poorly struck.

I'm ready to have a really good ball striking round with these so I can do some good vs good comparisons but I've yet to hit them well on the course (my struggles) vs the range and launch monitor activity.

Nice. Had a similar experience the other day. On the 17th, I think I was getting dehydrated and the heat was getting to me (low 90's); Par 4, I hooked my drive into the trees but it was kicked backwards into the middle of the fairway. Now I had 216 to the pin; clanked my 4 iron but ended up 15 feet away. Missed the birdie putt but really I had no business being in that position if it weren't for these clubs. Shot 72, 3 birdies 3 bogies; the bogies were from my misalignment woes, not the equipment.

I'm under the impression that the epic and epic pro are sorta the replacements for these. Is anyone verifiably certain that Cali will release new Apex irons in 18?

I've been told Epics are not replacement for Apex line, they are a new line that Callaway is testing the market with.

I just got my combo set from CPO like new beautiful clubs coming from 710 AP2 with tour issue x100 (loved the shaft) the Callaway's have the DG pro x100 in them that I did not realize or know much about love the short irons but the long irons seem to not have enough spin to carry and feel like a two by four any thoughts or suggestions? thanks

Was always a S400 or X100 player. I got these with the Nippon Modus3 Tour 125X... Felt the irons really came alive with these shafts in them.

what little research I have done on these since I got them is that they are progressive design and that long irons are supposed to have a higher ball flight but does not seem to work for me will give it more time I guess

I ultimately just adjusted a little. I find 40-50% or my iron shots aren't 100% swings anyway. A long time ago I learned many of misses were when I tried to nuke a club or had a distance where I needed to hit the iron perfect to get it there. So I started grabbing clubs that are 5 yards longer or in some cases 10 yards longer than the distance and will choke down an inch and take a easy, smooth swing... like what feels like a 90% cut at it. So for me, compensating for the gap between the 7 and 8 isn't that much of an impact.

I hit my stock 8i (or range 8i as you will hear tour players say from time to time) 165 yards in the CF16 (in other sets it was normally around 160-165.. mainly closer to 160). The 7i, in traditional sets was a 170-175 yard club, but in the CF16 it seems to be closer to a 180 club. I have something like a 13-14 yard gap between the clubs. If I have 170, I just choke down an inch and put an easy swing on it. So far, so good.

Silverbullets, I heeded your advice above and broke 80 for the first time. So much easier to keep the face square and distances controlled with my irons. Can't thank you enough!

That's awesome to hear! Not sure I deserve any credit but I'll take it haha. I started playing this way a handful of seasons ago and it really changed a lot about my game. Unless I am really feeling it that day, I pull that extra club or half club, choke down and just try to take a nice. smooth swing. The other thing I started doing is aiming for the fat part of the green most of the time. If I have a wedge in my hand, I may attack a tucked pin, but, for the most part, I aim for the middle. I do my best to take the big number out of play. Golf is a game of misses. I started playing a little more conservative on my approach shots and I watched my GIRs increase and my scores drop. For my game, GIR percentage and score are directly correlated. I've hit 4 fairways and shot 75 because I hit 12 GIRs. I have hit 10 fairways and shot 82 because I hit 6 GIRs.

I'm loving the irons more and more as I play with them. Took a bit to get used to the sound coming from my Pro's but they're so consistent across the face. Great performers.

I struck a 7 iron both in the CF16 and the Pro with the recoil 110 and the felt amazing. If I didnt get better performance out of the KBS C Taper I would choose those.

I hate that this thread let me to find out they have an all black version (i have a weird obsession with black or dark finished irons, but with black shafts. i lost it). And i want to try these.

But the price jump for the black versions. OMG!!!

Still will see if these put my 714 Ap1 out the bag

Still the best irons out there! Hit 6 out of 8 greens yesterday (9th hole par 5 was with a hybrid, but my second shot 7i over trees was great too), 4 of them within 15 feet of the hole.

FYI I didnt make a single birdie putt.

I wanted to love these irons so bad but I gave up on them after a couple months. It really bummed me out. I didn't like the turf interaction and I really didn't think they felt that great. Maybe I expected too much coming from Titleist 690MB's and 2009 X-Forged. I can understand why people love them but they weren't for me.
