IMHO and this is strictly IMHO--- It pays to know your swing as long as you do not try to get too mechanical or book perfect--- I know I have went that way in the past a couple of times and could not play a lick. I do not expect anyone else to be like me but mine is all instinct and feel. I will at times use an alignment stick to check and this is odd. I do not want a straight divot but one from outside in. That is my self taught anti hook swing. LOL one day I was on the range with a bud and a well meaning Tourist golfer remarked I was cutting across the ball. My bud the Miura dealer told him that was how I hit my famous North Charlotte cut and put so much spin on the ball. Like I say I would not want anyone to copy me because my swing is it's own. When my wife started playing semi serious a few years ago I sent her to a Lady Pro I know who had played the LPGA some. The LPGA pro is a friend of mine and she has played with me and knows my game. She told my wife "Stuey sent you over here because he does not want you to do some of the stuff he does" " He is the only one who can get away with that stuff"

I was taught this on tour, I was remarking to one of the "more mature" guys on the tour that my divots were going a little left his words were 

"And what's your problem son? That's the mark of a real shot" 

After asking what he meant he explained that just before the low point of the swing and at impact the club is traveling straight at the target but immediately afterwards it HAS to be travelling left due to the circular nature of the swing. If it's going straight you are chasing it down the line "you can play good golf from there but you can't compress the snot out if it."

 

Before hitting the tour I know how to hit a golf ball, while on tour I learnt how to play golf. There is a serious difference.

Going to make an attempt to book a tee time for Monday as another course down my way will open on the weekend.  It's supposed to be sunny and mid teens Celsius.  I'm going to play with my old beaters as I expect conditions to be rough this early on.  (This is the old goat track course that I have talked about in the past.)  It sure will be nice to get out though.  If we're successful it will have been 129 days between rounds.  Not bad for a seasonal golf climate.

 

Unfortunately there will be no range time leading up to it.  I might try swinging by a park close by and see if I can sneak a few swings in without getting into trouble.  I took a few swings yesterday in my yard and they were pretty awful!  I had a bit  more luck with a wedge in hand and hitting a few soft pitches.

 

DW and I signed up for a seniors league at a course we used to frequent ages ago.  WE will be playing Wednesday mornings starting April 28.  After talking to my buddy Dave yesterday and setting up Monday's tentative game I have a feeling that I won't be playing much at the course I was working at.  It wouldn't be difficult to wash my hands of the place entirely with a new routine.  I had indicated to my means league convener that I was going to be back this season for both Monday's and Thursday's.  We'll see how that goes initially.  I have a feeling once we get in the swing of things that I could quite easily decide to move on permanently. 

 

I have a few old friends that I haven't played with since before my injury that I would like to play with again.  I've missed those games, playing at different courses.  Playing three times a week seems like a good fit for me and that could be accomplished fairly easily without the (men's) league commitments.

The first video of your daughter was probably the equivalent to what I was doing in my garden yesterday.  I wasn't swinging the club, I was hoeing my lawn! 😖

 

I'm going to keep the mental image of your daughter's (current) swing in my mind as what to strive for.  It's just so effortless.  Exactly the sort of motion an old fahrt like me should aspire to.  👍

What make me laugh is that my 12 year old daughter just swings the club and as long as she makes decent contact she's happy.

 

My 7 year old son however is already asking me how he can hit it further, I guess the testosterone is strong in him. lol

One of the reasons I do not commit to the leagues besides around here they are grumbly cheating old farts. But yeah I like the fact I can sleep in if I want and play whatever equipment I want. Change can be good especially at our age

Good job I called at lunch time.  The club isn't opening until Saturday, but they're still taking bookings over the phone.  He only had two tee times left for Monday!  1:07 pm it is. 🏌️‍♂️⛳

Have not been round much recently, had a toothache that has been very painful and distracting, not been able to eat or sleep correctly for months. 
 

I did not go to the dentist as the covid thing has us worried about personal contact with strangers and we did not want to risk it.

 

The only other option was take it out myself, and as I do not have any way of stopping the pain it was a gamble. What I did was work at loosening it bit by bit, until last week it was moving really well, then it started to rise above the other tooth. This morning I had enough of it so I stood in front of the bathroom mirror and worked at it, then pulled it with my fingers, did not move. Not being one to give up I tried several times and eventually I stood there with my tooth in my hand. 

 

Been a relief today, no pain and I could eat correctly, so now I am back🤨🤨

I take it you haven't been vaccinated yet @tolmij.  I was wondering if you may have been as they are starting to book those over 75 here in Ontario at this time.  We're well behind the US when it comes to vaccinations, but the supply is now beginning to ramp up.  I hope to get done by June.  DW had her first shot last month as she is back working the front line.  Her brother has been done as he is volunteering at a vaccination clinic.

 

Regarding the dentist, I have been twice now for regular cleanings since the pandemic began.  They have excellent protocols in place, so I most certainly would have gone especially if I needed treatment.  One of the knock-on effects of this virus is that people are avoiding getting medical treatment for other conditions allowing them to deteriorate to the point that not a lot can be done to help.  That may well be the bigger cost to this crisis.

I've heard of people putting off medical and dental needs. Policies vary by state and locality. All I

can say is here it has been a little more difficult than it normally would have been but people have

been able to get their needs attended to as long as they have been patient and willing to do the

things some ask of them.

 

Cobi had her carpal tunnel surgeries done last summer but I was not allowed in the hospital and

had to wait outside in the car.  Likewise when I had the hernia surgery done we told her to just go

home and the hospital called her to come back when the surgery was over; because it was a 2-3

hour surgery. In both our cases we had to have a covid test a couple days before our surgeries.

 

Both of us have had numerous doctor appointments during this past year and we have both been

to the dentist a few times for normal teeth cleaning and x-rays. Some offices require you to check

in by phone when you arrive and then they call or come and get you in the parking lot when they

are ready to see you. Others have just rearranged the seating in their lobbies to keep people at

least 6 feet apart while they wait. All required a mask be worn once inside except the dental office

where had you take it off when it was time to have access to your mouth, of course.

 

I know early on in some parts of the country there was a problem or a worry about not having

enough beds for covid patients and some hospitals were ordered to cease all other non

emergency procedures to keep beds available for incoming covid cases. That ended very

quickly here because the cases were not materializing in the numbers some expected and the

hospitals simply could not afford to run at a much reduced level of activity and still stay in

business. 

 

So.....normal activity returned almost right away; just with safety protocols in place to protect

everyone. I don't know of anyone who was forced to forego needed medical attention but I do

know some who are just afraid to go to the doctor or dentist out of fear of catching covid there.

It's probably gonna take some time for those fears to go away completely.

Wow Tol! Sorry you had to suffer with that. If you had been in the neighborhood I would have been happy to help you out. Retired but still have my license and permission to use my old office. I did a filling on my 4 yr. old granddaughter a couple of weeks ago. She was a brave little rockstar which made it nice for her and me.

We have had several doctors appointments during the past year and a mask was mandatory, if you had any symptoms the consult was done outside, DW has a cardiology appointment next week and I am not allowed inside.

 

The biggest problem for us now is the government has handled this extremely well, so it has hardly affected us with deaths etc, but people are now getting complacent. Every one though was wearing a mask when the regulation came in.

 

As an aside, this morning I looked at the Grille on my lap top and your posts were perfect, lines carried on as they should, paragraphs showed up where they were meant to. It was quite a shock to the system reading your long post and it only took up a small amount instead of half a page. There must be some conflict between your computer and the site.😢

You could always move to Australia, the service I normally use is a free one for people of a certain age or financial position, the only problem is most of those giving the service are final year trainees or first year on the job. I have had several good experiences but once they did not leave long enough for the anaesthetic to take effect and the pain was quite a shock to my system left me shaking for quite a while. Pain is OK as long as I am expecting it, judo and horse shoeing are good learning situations.

 

I have never had a bad tooth, lost several due to gum disease and no matter how I treat them it does not go away, even the one I pulled this week was in perfect condition.

Back to golf, some really  good posts, I agree with Stu, as I have said before I stopped playing competition because of the behaviour of the others in the group, could not play without mouthing off.

 

One game Son and I were playing as a double, one of the others kept mouthing off all through the first nine, making smart comments designed to put you off the stroke. On the tee at the tenth, he was teeing off, and the fairway is lined by large trees with long overhanging branches, it requires a good straight drive, in the trees is always trouble as they are quite dense. Son said on his backstroke, mind the trees, and his drive went almost right angles to the desired line, there was no way he was going to chip out so he had to take a second tee off, son said take care your first was not good, second ball went into the trees. He did his nut, cursing and swearing at my son who stood there and said if you cant take it keep your mouth shut. To say the least his second nine was a disaster. Found this many times the louder mouthy ones cannot take when given back. It was only shortly after this that I gave up after a brain dead golfer started hitting his cart with his  club after a poor fairway shot.

We moved to Australia from the UK in 1981, best move ever, we became Ausies on the first day and embraced the culture. Never been back, never want to go back, let me know if you come over again and I am sure we can arrange something, we are north of Brisbane in a place called Upper Caboolture.

We are experiencing the wettest Autumn in 50 years, large areas of Sydney are flooded, businesses closed down houses abandoned, except the pubs that is and a drop of water does not stop the locals going out for a jar or two. Note the man on the left keeping his dog dry, this is obviously expected of good dog people.

Glad you found us Soloman. I think this thread works because it seems to be populated by and attracts

mature alpha males. No one here has an ax to grind, an agenda or something to prove and everyone here

seems comfortable in their own skin and likes that we have a place of refuge here in WRX-land; away

from the personal insults and other bad behaviors that pop up in the main forums.

 

EDIT: mature alpha females are also welcome, of course, though we still await the

first to come along and stay with us. I do remember Nikegal (Maddie) dropping in

from time to time when she was updating us on Richard's health and telling us some

stories.

 Pulled my own tooth once

Came home from work 4;30 am on a Saturday and no dentist available before I had to return to work ( was essential Federal employee at that time)

  Had a horrible toothache from a poor root canal I had had before

  Took 2 leftover codeine pills , a shot of scotch and with the help of some small vice grips -out it came

  Saw my dentist on Monday ( she was appalled ) but said I got it all and just gave me some antibiotics

 

 Would not want to try it again, but desperate times and all that...

Hard to believe that 3 weeks ago I had to plow the driveway three times. First time in twenty years for that. Now, we are two weeks into the nicest March we have had in a long time. Very warm, and all trees are budding, Easter flowers are in full bloom, and the golf is great. Strong winds a couple days, but overall, a very very good start to Spring !

Have never had the tooth problems. But i can sure understand having to pull it ! You guys are  making me ache just hearing those two stories of self extraction !

Sol., I agree that this is the place to be. We have no ego issues here and no one here is a "keyboard warrior"! Good place to be!.

Summer is normally our wet season, been extremely dry this summer, prayed for rain and must have prayed too hard as most of the east coast is now under flood water, largest floods for 100 years. State of emergency in many areas and two massive storms are now converging over the next two days, many areas have been evacuated. Fortunately we have not been flooded as we are on high ground and our area has had much less rain than average. We have a range of hills locally that has always diverted the worst weather, hoping for dryer times over the next two days so we can get back outside.
