Once had a Ping G25 23* hybrid regularly in the bag.  At the stock playing length, didn't hit it all that reliably, "catch it clean".   Installed a 1" extension and had improved results.  Did the same to my golf league partner's same club, and he was 3" - 4' shorter in height than me.  His ball striking improved as well.  Might be worth a try.  The G25 is now history, replaced by the 9w that I currently use.  

 

The Maltby 5w with A flex shaft is becoming a favorite club.  No problem with trajectory, maybe a bit too high.  Maybe a wee bit shorter in total distance than the prior, but have been hitting consistently good shots.  Confidently straight, solid thump to it.  Not sure whether it's the head, shaft, or a combination of both.  I'm really liking the LW (~50g), flexy shaft.  So easy to swing, while maintaining directional control.  Definitely going to move in that direction for next season.  Shaft only (shimmed) into the existing V 7w,  or new head and shaft YTBD.  The current 7w has always been something of an outlier with how well I hit for some reason.   

 

The other day, playing a nemesis par 3, plays at ~180 yards, slightly uphill, with large sand trap guarding the front (that gobbles balls).  A steep slope left kicks most shots missed on that side into the shrubbery, always have to play towards the right side.  I rarely get on in one.  Playing at a measured 178 on the day.  Nutted the 5w pin high, 20' right of the hole.  From ball mark to where it stopped was about 15'.  High trajectory proved beneficial.   Two putted for par (rare on the day), was happy.

Temp changes coming here tomorrow. So long Indian Summer. Today 88/67, tomorrow 71/47.

Fall is returning. May have to wear a layer up top on the course though I'll still wear shorts

for as long as I can stand it. I'm not complaining. I'm sure it's much worse for some here. For

me temps in the 60s and low/mid 70s are perfect golf weather.

Only a little?  I engage in a whole lot of confirmation bias.  I don't make poor, misinformed acquisition choices.  More a case of the implements not quite panning out as planned.  And takes some play time to have the perceptions match up to reality.  Always a process of YTBD for an indefinite period of time.  Or shizzle changes along the way.    

 

Undergoing reality checks as the season winds down.  Some of the stuff is not giving me the requisite positive vibes.  Getting crazy notions of veering off in a different direction with the tools.  LW, easy swingers, with wide bottoms, max SGI.  P & S.  Toey mishits, no problem (tech).  Stronger lofts, ball goes far (hit a high carry from 145 with an 8 iron).  Six wedges to wield from 125 yards and in (covering all the gaps).  Time for some 100% old guy clubs?  Want some "hush puppies".  IDK.  Poking around pondering options.

Would not bother me either. I guess I am strange in the modern world I am one of those folks that do not carry a cell phone everywhere I go. I do not do E mail either---- People of all ages think I am touched in the head--- Someone asked me the perverbial question the other day--- What would happen if your wife needed to get in touch with you at the golf course?---- I told them she knows where I am at and the clubhouse does have a land line and everyone knows me. They can do like they did 40 years ago send someone out to get me. I was at Home Depot the other day and got some shop supplies ( solvent epoxy and tape) the lady at the checkout asked for my E- Mail. I told her I did not do e mail. She looked at me like I had dropped my pants and mooned her!!!---- I told her if I needed a e-mail to get supplies then they could stuff them and I would just order on line. She shut up then and processed my items.

 

Something else I found out the other day about phones. When I was laid up bad and flying without any wings or leaving the house I used to answer the sales calls and mess with them. Also some of the calls they hang up when you answer. They are checking to see if it is an active phone. If it is active they bombard you with sales calls. They also use a system of relays I call them now you can get calls from like overseas ( mostly spam calls) and they will reroute it somehow and it shows on caller ID as a "local" area code. Now I do not answer a phone unless the number shows that is someone I know. Hey I do have voice mail. 

 

Had some jerkwater call 3 times the other day when I was on the course and he left a message. He was one of those among many around here trying to buy real estate. I never called back. He blew my phone up Sunday afternoon so I answered. He said he had left me messages. I told him yeah I knew. He said well I did not respond-- I asked him who died and made him King? Told him I was a free American Veteran and paid for that phone and I would choose when and whome I talked to. I also told him in no uncertain terms I did not do business with people who solicited on Sunday  and I shouted leave me the blank alone!!!! I blocked his number out

Thats what my running partner Bear tells them. Back when I was still talking to those clowns I told one guy I would sell for 125k. He said he would like to look and I told him come on he had the address anyhow somehow. He never showed I figgured he programmed it in his GPS and when he turned into our Mobile Home Village I guess a light bulb may have clicked on in his pea sized brain no mobile homes in here worth that. But since we quit answering unknown calls our rings have dropped over 75%--- Me I may be the worlds biggest hermit-- I can go a week at the time and never use the phone but I will see the list of missed calls.

Got a solution to random calls from peeps I don't know.  Don't anser the phone!  Quite easy to caller ID these days..."Don't know anyone from BFE."   Or shows up as SPAM CALL.  When I get an area call, that's not in my contact list, I push the side button once which stops the ring.  A caller doesn't know I've muted the call, can still leave a voice message.  Can read said message at a glance, don't have to listen to it.  If it's irrelevant, gets deleted immediately.  Don't even listen to it.  

 

Fella don't fool around with calls from solicitors, crank callers.  Don't want to play games with any of them.  Not big on phone yakking with anyone for that matter.  Fella appreciates brevity in a phone call.  And have become really bad at wanting to talk with someone on my time, rather than theirs.  Become almost a habit, callbacks are frequently employed, even if it's just a minute or five.  "Hey, was tied up....Couldn't get to the phone in time...Saw that you called."  Yada Yada.    Except with the Mrs., Fella ain't stupid.

 

When you rarely anser the phone, the number of unsolicited calls is not exorbitant.

No.  Been quite some time since he's posted.  Miss his contributions and perspectives to the chatter, from the other side of the world.  Perhaps taking a sabbatical from the daily WRX thing.  Need to do that periodically, when one gets into a funk with this place.  Although I do note he logs in/shows up daily.

Regarding phone solicitations.  I get my fair share.  There's the usual recorded messages from the CRA around tax time -- our version of the IRS.  The newest wrinkle is the border services calling via recorded message claiming they have an illegal parcel that I imported and an arrest warrant has been issued; press 1 to speak with an agent...  The list of blocked numbers continues to grow... 😒

 

Of the more mundane calls are the heavily accented voices offering duct cleaning services.  I always respond by saying that my ducks are clean, they're organic!!  That gets met with silence to which I respond further:  goodbye... 😏

In SC we have a town and county called Lancaster--- It is properly pronounced here Lankk aster. The news people all of them on our local stations pronounce it Lan caster with the caster prnounced long.  Now that is ok because that is the proper prounciation if you are in Pennsylvania but we are in South Carolina. I am not the only one who gives them crap over that

Well , you know being an ex trucker that pronouncing city and county names around the

country is a challenge. The same spelled name can be pronounced differently in different

places; like Lancaster, as you mentioned, plus some names are just spelled weirdly and it's

just a guess how to pronounce them. Most of the time I would just ask the locals how to

pronounce their city name. A few examples:

 

Breinigsville, PA   pronounced Brinesville

Watervliet. NY     ""       ""        Water va lay

Tigard, OR           ""       ""         Tie gurd

Lafayette, AL       ""       ""        La fet

Lafayette, LA         ""      ""       La fy  et

 

I could go on and on. I took it as a challenge when I was on the road.

The town we live in has 2 spellings. The "official" spelling is Tallassee. The old spelling is

Talisi and is still used by some businesses, etc. I actually prefer the old spelling cause

the official spelling, when just glanced at, gets confused with Tallahassee; which is in

Florida, of course. It's a Creek Indian name and is pronounced Towel a sea.....or like

Tallahassee without the ha.

 

We have another town near us called Kowaliga. Good luck pronouncing it by guessing.

It's Ka lie ja.

 

There's a town in Texas called Iraan. I remember wondering how a town in Texas got a 

name like that. Turns out the town founders were named Ira and Ann and they just

meshed their names together.

 

Portland, OR was almost Boston, OR. The founders couldn't agree on which name to

use so they flipped a coin and Portland won.

Here's something that could be frustrating in Japan. There was a street sign near my house which is very rare. Most streets have no names but some rare larger ones will have a number.

 

The sign was:

 

大道 

 

The first kanji means big and the second kanji means street or road. Kanji can many different pronunciations for the same character. one is the purely Japanese pronunciation and the other is from the old Chinese pronunciation.

 

This first kanji could be pronounced as DAI or OH- (a long ohh).

 

The second could be pronounced as MICHI or DORO or DOH.

 

Anyway, taking a taxi from the train station, I would have to explain where to go. If I said, "DAI DOH." The taxi driver might say, "Ahhhh, Oh- michi..." just to fool with me.

 

The next time with a different driver, If I said, "OH michi," he'd say,'Ahhh, dai doh..."

 

 Imagine driving in country with no street names... You carried a giant book of detailed maps and had to plot your route before you left. Store names, or trees, or stop lights would be landmarks to turn. That's why GPS car navigation was first introduced in Japan.

LOL back when I was really on the road drivers ran the CB radio and sometimes you could pick up a name that way. Also especially in the Midwest and UP of Michigan there were quite a few base stations too. LOL you could pronounce a name wrong and usually someone would chime in with the proper pronounciation.
