but let’s get real for minute. first, he never said it. he said he felt like the father of the internet because, in truth, he was.

 

he was talking about an information super highway all the way back in the 70’s. he introduced 2 of the most significant bills to build it from darpa. he wrote, lobbied, cajoled, argued, fought for the bill in 1991 that did create the internet you’re using right now against members who just didn’t get it.

 

it sprung from his father who was the father of the interstate highway system you use today. he also wrote, lobbied, cajoled and fought to get it passed.

 

that’s not about politics and this isn’t about politics. it’s about infrastructure. gore graduated from harvard and joined the army as an enlisted man and went to vietnam because he said if he didn’t go, someone else would have to. he could have avoided it like the rest of his classmates.

In other news; meet Jackie boy ... Sophie's been so bummed since Leo passed and when our friends at the Rottie rescue here (where Sophie came from) hit me up about this fella, had to go meet him. Took about 10 seconds to be all "Yep, this is my guy."

 

He's surprisingly chill for an 18mo/old! And he's in that lanky teenage phase where he's all head, paws and legs. Gonna be a big fella!

Vint Cerf. I got to attend a couple of seminar / lecture-type things he gave some years and several jobs ago. Inventor? I’m not sure if even he’d make that claim, but definitely a founding technologist behind “the internet.” I understood a bit of what he was explaining, IIRC the topic was Converged Packet Access, but I was a bit out of my depth and it was so long ago I don’t recall many specifics. I do remember in a room filled with people who wanted to be the smartest person in the room, there was no question who the towering intellect was. He is an incredibly interesting and engaging person, even if the IP networking topic was a bit arcane.

Boy folks are sensitive, the guy that came back at me may have been from across the pond by his name but a simple explaination of why I was wrong (if I was wrong) would have been more helpful. Oh well I am going back in for some more fun.
