I really like this golf course. Something pure about it. Looks like its been just as you might see it 100 years ago. Like a horse drawn cart carrying hand churned butter might come rumbling down the lane into the clubhouse. Anyway,

 

Tomorrows winner will be a first time US Open champion

 

And most likely a first time Major winner.

 

History tomorrow.

I disagree. Take away the history and its just a weird course built in a corn field. Maybe if I ever played it, I would think different. It just looks boring to me...like the same shot over and over. Besides, I don't typically care for a course with that many blind shots.

 

The tournament has been great so far! Really looking forward to tomorrow.

 

No way. A proper corn field is as close to flat as you can get. Not the case at Oakmont. You can't complain about it being built in a corn field and having too many blind shots at the same time. Also what's "weird" about it? I hate to imagine what you think of St. Andrews if you find Oakmont weird.

 

I do agree that it's shaping up to be a fun finish, and that it's been a great tournament so far.

Yep, looks like being a good, even great, US Open. I like the course a lot, the openness makes for great viewing. The only problem for me is that, with all the rain delays on top of the massive time difference (about 12 hours), I have had problems knowing which rounds they are on!

I'm not a huge fan of some of the commentators, but overall I love the camers, pro tracer, green grids, fly-overs and seeing more shots in general.

 

Its been a good one.

 

Agree with this. I'm watching a different feed, so haven't had to put up with the insufferable commentators on Fox, but the graphics have been excellent. Protracer with the a marker for where the pin is on par 3's, plus an overlay showing the breaks and slopes on the greens. Really good stuff IMO.

had that same thought .. the coverage right now sounds like euro tour coverage ... less talky talky more golfy golfy .... Me like ! Call and tell Joe to stay home... send some ladies to his hotel , or someone stuff him in a trunk...the morning guys would do perfectly!

I'm feeling the Euro vibe as well, probably because it's early on a Sunday morning, but also a lot better job of cutting away and to action.

 

I think playing with DJ should be good for Lowry today. Will be interesting to see if the course makes it hard to catch up/easier to collapse later today. Lowry should be steady.

Welp, Lowry eliminated a lot of the potential excitement at Oakmont today. Certainly eliminated everyone but the 6 guys under par.

Sat here pondering whether we need to start viewing Mcilroy's no shows in the majors for the last two years as a Tiger Woods style will he ever win one again. There is nothing in his game or his mental approach to poor shots that's makes me think that's likely. He picks and chooses his tournaments, his game is always "in a good place", he finishes the first round way behind the leaders, has a charge mid tournament that gets people buzzing, makes a bogey and then collapses. I'm a fan, but a concerned fan at the moment!

I watched him win his first Euro Tour event as an amateur. The guy is clutch, but agree today will be a great test for him. A lot of people will be rooting for him I think!

The coverage, aside from the Masters telecast, is head and shoulders above anything else we see year in and year out.

 

It's almost as if we're watching the real coverage and they're watching the local news or something...

I'm not convinced there are actually mics in the cups. I think it's just a sound effect.

 

FS1 is playing a retrospective of the 2007 Open at Oakmont and those putts have the exact same sound effect.
