Not sure why this is such a big deal, golf club companies come and go. Remember Tommy Armour, Powerbilt, Lynx. Palmer and Nicklaus even had club companies that failed. It's all about making money, and if they don't they shut them down.

They should have never stopped making square drivers and woods. At least they wised up and got rid of the idea of a collar on a shirt.

Its a huge deal because out of all those companies none compare to NIKE. To see a company as big as Nike just back out literally at peak of the season is crazy. For all the contracts they signed with new players and all of the advertising they putt out lately its mind blowing to think they just called it quits

I am really amazed at how many people on this thread and others thought Nike sold a lot of clubs, balls etc, its been all about the apparel driving the business since day one.

Many suggested they should buy taylormade, I laughed. and yet others thought Jason Day will/might switch to Nike. JD has a contract with Adidas and TM, just because TM is for sale, Nothing changes. Titleist was purchased by the Koreans 3 years ago, seen any change in day to day operations, sponsorship etc? I sure haven't. Athletes come and go, but their core athletes are still with them. Yes Zack left but so would you for sick money.

I think how this relates to Nike is, there probably wouldn't be a buyer for nike golf equipment. TM there will be and it likely will not be a golf company.

Nike has come and gone out of fringe sports, this is no different

Uh oh. Nike clubs may be like Twinkies. Better buy and hoard them and someday get rich.

I was wondering the same thing. In 20 years, what will my investment on a $150 Vapor Flex Driver be?

Tiger and Rory contracts too heavy for the club division to edge a profit?

Some of their equipment looks like an abused port a John at major sporting event

Wow, guys like me ruined Nike Golf, lol. I own lots of their golf clothes and

some shoes but never bought a single club, ball or bag. Shame on me. :D

But, I will keep buying their clothes and shoes......so there's that.

I do feel bad for some of the staffers on here.....namely NikeGal and GolfingBro.

Hopefully they'll get good new club, ball and bag deals elsewhere.

I have a friend that is a rep for another equipment company, and when Nike got rid of their equipment reps, he predicted this was coming.

Had not realized that had occurred, what was that time frame

Man... I feel like I just got blindsided with divorce papers. I've played nothing but Nike since they started making clubs, and worn nothing but Nike since even before that. Essentially my whole golfing life minus the late nineties. It'll pass eventually but right now I just want to throw it all on eBay and find something else to do. Golf life just doesn't seem worth living.

This sucks to hear as a Nike fan myself (all my clubs but 1), but I think the writing is on the wall for all equipment manufacturers. The slight increments in innovations and gains are not enough to justify new club purchases for many, including myself. Previous model clubs and balls are not far off at all from the newest models.

Those companies didn't fail per se. They were bought by other golf companies and still produced for a short time after. They just didn't go poof! no more clubs like Nike is doing.

I bet PXG will be very aggressive to scoop up some names...

Call me sentimental but i would love to see Tiger back w Titleist for his last run. Maybe he can finally put the Scotty back in the bag..

This would be great. Unfortunately, I don't see Titleist or AN being willing to shell out the stacks that it is going to take to get TW on board. It is going to be someone with no ties to the soft goods market. Mizuno, PXG, Callaway, Miura

See ya Nike...thank goodness.....long overdue....their ego was nuts....bye bye swoosh!

End on on high note, (not) that awful current metallic blue Staff Bag from Nike......later much.

Officially announced that they are pulling out of the club, ball and bag market.

http://news.nike.com/news/nike-focuses-golf-innovation-on-footwear-and-apparel-transitions-out-of-equipment

I wonder what this will mean for the likes of McIlroy, Tiger (if he ever comes back), Brooks Koepka and Tomy Finau.

I am liking the RZN balls too. Crap.

Anyone willing to shell out the "stacks" to get Rory and Tiger for just equipment, we might as well start a thread about them going out of business too
