Nike dropping golf equipment (merged)

You'd be surprised at how many mid cappers were telling me they liked the weight and feel of a steel shafted PT15 over superior fairways at the time. Oh you know, because of TW.

Or how they liked this or that because of Tiger. Like the RZN or ONE fit their game better because they were such a high spin player lol.

I never thought I was Jordan, but there really were people out there that thought buying a white/blueboard in X flex tipped all to hell was for them...to control their spin rates haha

The clothes I can understand - it's natural for a fan to want to look like their idol. Gaming the clubs just to look like your idol though? Not so much.

I wonder if Rory already knew something about Nike's exit when he was observed by the GolfWRX cameraman at the US Open checking out the Cobra driver during his practice round with Rickie?

He also asked Day if he could hold his driver after one of their tee shots at the PGA. He gave it a few wiggles as well.

I still remember TW hitting O'Meara's TM Firesole driver on the range at Pinehurst in 99. While TW was still playing the 975D.

He might have had some speculation but no way he would have known anything official. Nike is a publicly traded company and any inside info like that could result in insider trading if the information was used to their benefit.

Nike should have kept it as an iron clad secret until it was formally announced. Which is why players like Tony Finau commented that they were shocked and knew nothing prior to the announcement coming out.

I wouldn't be shocked if Rory went back to Titleist. If you look at the 716 AP2's and compare them to the Nike Vapor Pro Combos, they are very similar in head design (ignore the colors) and specifications of each iron (loft, etc).

I know Rory played a mix of Nike Pro & Pro Combo, but I'm just saying, the 716 AP2 and Pro Combo are the 2 sets that are the most similar if he was looking for minimal change from what he is familiar with playing.

Any chance someone buys Nike's patents and we get similar equipment from a different manufacturer?

Why would anyone want to do that when Nike's designs aren't better than anyone else's and sales have sucked?

No.. Rory games the VR Pro blades, not Vapor irons.

Still waiting for pictures from the Oven on what the 2017 line looked like..

Rory actually did play the Vapor line for a time, before choosing to switch back and forth with various things that worked/didn't work for him.

For me, I welcomed the chance to play equipment that the stuffy, bigoted, racist, sexist, beer-belly'd, over-privileged golfer wouldn't play. In my 20+ years of being around golf and golfers I'm pretty sure Nike would have never fit in and this was inevitable.

Bro, while your post is articulated quite nicely, please excuse me if my respose is not on par with your post-

You're full of s*** :)

Anonymity and virtual world forums sure are sweet, huh???

And my fiance is a Staffer so I'm quite familiar with the brand. She has 38+ years in the game and while I have never nor will I ever speak for her, it's safe to say that she and others familiar with Nike from more than a retail level, fill my bag with Nike mentality, do not see it this way.

You obviously bring an agenda to the table, however ficticious UN's and fake avatars make it easy to chirp from the safety of behind a keyboard and screen.

Golf forums are pretty cool too, eh?

Regardless, the Best to Ya :)

Regards,

RP

Just came out of Golfsmith. The Nike racks are Bare. I asked and they said Nike bought them all back and pulled everything. I was hoping for a fire sale on wedges personally.

My golfsmith out of Cleveland still have the irons left. Was told the prices will come down within the next couple weeks. Hope that's true!

Yeah except that the list isn't too accurate (based on most WRX's here and personal experience)

Agreed, I'd say the Engage wedges are the best club Nike ever made. The RZN TOUR Black was there second best thing they produced.

I always look at the source of the information and criteria used. But yeah it seems like reading the forums that the list might not be too accurate...

As do I if I'm dealing with an orthopedic double-blind multi-center hip or knee replacement study however we're talkin friggin golf clubs, so I figured that whomever wrote it from WRX was at least in the ball game, and it is only one guy's opinion, just as if you'd take one guy from the board and have him make a list.

I didn't realize this would bring the rain or I'd have never have posted it, LMAO

Apologies, I shoulda listened to Maddie and just STFU, lmao

I'm a slow learner :)

After trying to get into hockey hardware (Bauer), activity trackers (FuelBand), and golf clubs, the company realized it didn't have the skills to excel in the hardware business. Engineers with specific skills in metals and manufacturing are needed for golf and, like FuelBand, probably don't bring skills that can be leveraged in other parts of the business. It's no coincidence that all three hardware businesses I mentioned above have either been sold or shut down.

Quote taken from The Motley fool.

Nikes biggest achievement was to sign TW. If TW would have stayed with Titleist the name Tiger would have been known much less overseas.

To me it proves Nike did really well because the real leverage is marketing exposure. Underestimating the skills of the Oven shows this man's lack of knowledge.

I see it as an opinion piece. Lol, and you know what they say about those. My list would've only comprised of info from here and clubs equipment they've produced in the last say 4-5 years.

Seems like all retailers are pulling Nike equipment. Neither Edwin watts or dicks sporting good have any Nike drivers on their sites.

Cause today was last day for all sales on Nike golf equipment.

August 10th,today,everything went back to Nike. Stated from previous posts.
