Tiger to PXG?

Parsons is saying he's not interested because Tiger probably never called him.

What a d-bag.

Tiger? Parsons?

Or Both?!

Nice one. I was talking about Parsons.

Tbh, he probably knew he didn't stand a chance with Tiger. Not because of money, but TW is a tradionalist and would never game those irons.

Figured he had a shot with Rory. Smart money is PXG is one of the manufacturers sitting in the garage at Rory's parent's.

Hey, whats the latest with your pxg clubs?

Are they worth the 5 grand?

Worth is dependent on the purchaser.

Worth it if I don't buy another set of irons for about 5 years.

More yards, simple look at address, soft feel, no vibrations, easy to launch, almost as forgiving as JC.

I guess I am confused about the money aspect.. Even if Tiger signs with another OEM, won't he still get his $100m or whatever it is contract? I would think this would be similar to stock options or a signing bonus in corporate America.. They are obligated to pay it, even if they let you go, unless you are fired with cause. Tiger, Rory, etc. were not fired with cause. I would assume Nike is still on the hook for the remainder of these players' contracts. There could be a clause in there that if tiger switches equipment or apparel than Nike can get out of part of it.. but surely that wouldn't be the entire contract... I would bet it's not even close to half of the contract.

ALL good questions. I wonder if anybody (besides Tiger and Nike) really knows ?

There's possibly a percentage payout based on apparel and equipment.

There's also quite possibly some sort of escape clause for Nike - e.g. if we halt making equipment we only pay on clothing/apparel.

Possibly "buy out" terms for Nike for any reason,,,,,,,,,

Possibly if Tiger plays another brand for less than the Nike contract Nike has to pay the difference ?

Anybody around here actually know what the terms of the contract(s) are ?

Ok hear me out before tossing me off the boat:

Bob Parsons is a former military man, and we all know Tiger is obsessed with the Seals. So much so that he actually did military training and there were even rumors of him giving up golf to enlist (never happened obviously).

Bob Parsons also is a very rich man, and potentially would throw as much money at Tiger as needed to sign him. Imagine how many people would buy PXG if Tiger was on their staff of tour players?

Lastly, Titleist is the only other club manufacturer that I think suits Tiger, and they are notorious for not paying their staffers as well as other companies.

Thoughts? Doesn't sound as crazy as many would think imo.

Parsons in a recent interview on the Nike Golf going under said that there are some of the Nike golfers he would be interested in, but Tiger was not really one of them. Additionally he stated that PXG does not go after Pros that they come to him. Also Nike stable golfers with head to toe golf clothing contracts would have to get that changed because all PXG pros have to wear a hat and that was non-negotiable. Unless their is a change on how PXG approaches pros endorsement deals, unlikely that Tiger, Rory or even Michelle Wie would be going PXG.

It is all clothing, and Tiger is unlikely to leave Nike. They have buildings named after him in Nike country.

As a former active duty Marine, I am excited about Mr. Parsons venture into the golf world. The Marine side of him certainly shows in PXG. But at $300 an iron, it does not matter who is endorsing PXG as a extremely large part of the golfing public cannot afford those clubs. You either expand your operations to become a household name in golf and affordable, or continue to cater to the 1% that can actually afford your clubs (and that is ok, if that is what you want to do) But in the end you can't buy a golf game.

All clothing ? I don't understand.

He's been playing Nike equipment for many years now - was he doing that without being paid for it ?

I'm still waiting to see a club that actually squares the face at impact on it's own......LOL

I'm not sure what benefits having Tiger play your clubs would be, especially if Tiger never successfully competes again. Seems to me that paying Tiger anything (literally) to play your clubs might be a bad investment.

Nike never saw any sign of Tiger/Rory equating to equipment sales........I'm a member at a big club, and I've never seen any Nike clubs in a bag......lol

Rory no, Tiger sold the crap out of Nike Golf. He made Nike Golf go from clothing to clubs.

I think it's a Regional thing, out here; PNW in particular but West Coast in general, it's all over. Not many full bags but it's out there plenty.

Nike will continue to pay their staffers their current contract value but allow they to play whatever they desire.

As for Tiger with Nike, well it's only 1 building :taunt:. From my understanding his income is not just based off of his contract but also a stake in the TW line.

Nothing just people rejoice in the current fall of golf popularity - all brought on by one man.

Its about sales guys. Tiger has more in his name for a representative than all current golfers combined. Yup.

Golf companies dont make clubs for guys on WRX. They make the cheapest clubs to give a sales price point to the dude who buys on the latest commercial they watched.

I can't see where Tiger's ego would allow him to take a 'pay cut' and PXG likely wouldn't pay what Nike was (assuming they don't like to toss money in the fire) as Tiger just isn't the factor he was back in his day (pre-injuries and pre-domestic troubles). If anyone signed Tiger it would more than likely be Titleist.

Parson's quote makes me think they might actually *do* a deal.

I don't know if PXG is good fit for Tiger. it's not a to the masses kinda clubs. It's run by the former owner of GOdaddy which smells of nothing but porn lol.

He is from Texas, conservative, yet lots of strip clubs all over Texas... I think the world is confused.

You do realize Tiger knocked up a porn star... twice. So they might have more in common than you think...

I'm not sure you have a clue what "knocked up" means.

Not golf clubs though....Their #'s were very low, especially in iron sets sold.........They sold some woods, but that's about it......

Notah Begay said last night that Tiger's dining room looks like a PGA Tour Superstore, with all of the equipment that every company has been sending him with the pending demise of Nike clubs. I'm sure there's plenty of stuff from PXG, despite Bob Parsons' statements to the contrary. For those who missed that, Parsons said they had very little interest in signing him. Even if this is the case, I'm sure they wouldn't complain if one or two of their clubs ended up in his bag.

Tiger marries Serena Williams

- They buy Wilson (her main tennis equipment endorsement) at a bargain basement price, move HQ to Windemere

- The movie "Castaway" is rereleased with the famous Wilson ball branded with a large TW logo

- Tiger places a Staff blade, really Miura with Wilson stampings

- Number of "majors won" (their combined) becomes >100 (when you add in Palmer, Mickey Wright, Gene Sarazen, etc)

- Both stick with Nike apparel; "TW" and "SW" stitching on most items

- British Open and Wimbledon calendar in back-to-back weeks, (Serena and Tiger as emcees for each)...corporate entertainment tents have "TW," "SW" each covered with the "zig zag" like Scotty Cameron uses.)

- "Circle T" takes on a whole new meaning

- Serena starts to wear red and black in all finals matches

- Coca Cola and Tiger make up, Tiger and Serena go from Pepsi to Coke, unknown large sum

If PXG succeeds with their over the top pricing strategy it helps other companies fast forward price increases. They are already testing the market with Patriot and Pink drivers at ridiculous prices.

Consumers aren't helpless victims. Either they think the product is worth the price or they don't. Regardless, other companies aren't waiting on PXG so they can increase their prices - PXG is competing on certain differentiators. Whether that succeeds or fails won't influence the price of what their competitors are offering.

I would bet Tiger sold more clubs for TMAG than he ever did for Nike. Meaning, the people who were inspired by Tiger to take up golf went to their local big box and got sold a stock set of TM Burners. Those people are gone now, and everyone is feeling the pain.
