2017 World Golf Championships - Match Play

I've worked the last three days at the event. The practice round on Tuesday was alright, but yesterday I was assigned to the player's parking lot for escorts and security. Had a cool conversation with Na's caddy. Loaded Day's bag and about 6 pairs of shoes into a car after he left his caddy hanging at the course with his quick exodus. Cabrera-Bello is a cool guy! Spieth is not! Sergio is much more fan friendly than I thought. Heard Kuchar make the statement "Keep Austin Weird" (It's an Austin thing for non-Austinites) to a drunk 30+ year old female fan wanting his autograph. Recommended Uncle Julio's for a good downtown Mexican restaurant to Charles Howell III after yesterday's loss. Cool to see some behind the scenes stuff. And I was paid to be there! The perks of the job I guess.

I also found out that this event has the highest Vodka sales and alcohol sales of any event on the tour. Bunch of drunks in Austin!

More alcohol consumed than Phoenix? Maybe per patron. Hah, bunch of guys will reply "challenge accepted". Beer does have alcohol ya know.

1 poster said that, just 1. But keep making blanket statements

Blanket statements like "this didn't happen"?

Ok how about "he took three rounds away from a player who would have loved to play in this event."

Yeah you're right that wasn't implying he was selfish. Geez mate learn when to admit you're wrong!

I guess you dont understand exceptions? when 200 posts on this subject have been posted between 2 threads and 1 yes 1 stated what you claim then yes youre wrong to say what you did.

The other quote you dug up is a factual statement that might be insensitive to you but very matter of fact. He did take 3 rounds from someone else, thats not wrong but it rustled your jimmies enough to climb your soapbox and lecture.

Its cool though go about your day mate

I understand the English language champ. Apparently it's a bit evasive for you. He didn't take anything away from anyone. He qualified, and played as his mother wanted. In the end he couldn't handle it. You know as well as I do that "this didn't happen" doesn't allow for exceptions. It's a simple declarative statement with high modality. Doesn't leave much wiggle room. As for the rubbish about 200 posts, it doesn't have a great deal to do with what we're discussing, particularly in that most of the posts in this thread are about the tournament. I await with baited breath your next pivot. May I suggest "scatter wiretapped my computer!", or maybe "I wasn't even talking to you".

Heard the same about Spieth before. What did he do exactly to have you say that?

I am looking forward to Sergio and Rahm, big fan of both, but your time will come JR, get it Sergio....

Looking forward to Sergio advancing as well. Maybe the jd spider he's using this week will be his secret weapon. Unfortunately, rahm has the same one and it's been working for him.

I was surprised to see that putter on Wednesday, but he has made some really good putts this week.

I just hope it is a good match.

I think someone said the same thing about Spieth at last year's event - what gives?

Yep they certainly did. I realize he's young, but when he has a bad day on the course it definitely carries over to off the course. He walked around pouting off the camera and also doesn't treat people with respect off the camera either. I suppose people close to him are use to it and deal with it, but that kid needs to learn how to adapt to adversity and start handling bad days better than he does. I can only imagine how bad he was after last year's final round at the Masters. I really want to like the guy and root for him, but my observations and the stories from the Officers that were assigned to walk with him this week make it very difficult to like him. I could never work for him, because I wouldn't let anyone treat me like that. No sweat, I'll go work for Cabrera-Bello instead!

BTW, I asked Na's caddy to trade my duty belt (gun, radio, taser, pepper spray, two sets of handcuffs) for his Circle T, completely even swap IMO. His caddy chuckled and said "I'd be fired". I responded "Me too" with an I'm serious look on my face.

Yea, he made some clutch putts coming down the stretch against Lowry on Wednesday. That's the match of the day. Looking forward to it

Hopefully Spieth can change his attitude with age. Not sure why, but he always gave me a Shooter McGavin/David Simms vibe.

And the crazy thing is, there's only 10000 tickets issued for this event. I heard this statement made by several different people throughout the week. I have no reason to question the credibility. I was assigned the Palmwood and Lake House Chalet during the practice round on Tuesday and the number of bottle of Vodka delivered to those two locations was staggering for just five days of drinking.

Blimey, now Bryson D. Shampoo is advertising Microsoft Cloud. Considering he's won nothing in the professional game, he's certainly cashing in on endorsements.

He's the next Ricky Fowler.

He'll be lucky to even have the career Ricky's had so far.

Maybe. But it's not a steep hill to climb. Fowler got his first win in his 72nd event and his second win at 142.

Bryson has only played in 26 events.

Gotta get paid in other ways too! He's not making any cuts!

He could make a few shekels being a woody boyd impersonator.

I guess I'm the only Bryson fan around here.

I'm a fan. He adds to the game and I appreciate his efforts to innovate. However, I do think his "one length" clubs are a problem.

Dark horses. Perez & Na

Boy I hope its not Perez honestly. The guy just bugs me, but maybe its his SoCal style and what not? I know he's a Chiver and I enjoy lots of posts on the Chive, but the thing that always bugs me is they say "he's the 3rd ranked golfer in the world wearing our BFM clothing line". No he's not, he's 3rd in Fedex cup points. It drives me crazy...

Exactly! I think some folks out in Arizona would like to have something to say about this!

It must suck to have 500 people a day want some sort of interaction with you, knowing that if you're nice to 499 of them, the 500th is still going to be badmouthing you on the Internet. I'd get pretty jaded, pretty quickly.

Most of these players are perfectly nice people but to expect them to have time for everyone, every time, is just unreasonable. Spieth isn't uncool just because he spent a full day at the course, followed by 90 minutes of media explaining why his game isn't sharp and then just wants to get in his car and go home without a chat with the parking lot guy.

It's just amazing to me that the Golf Channel can't adjust their schedule and move the TV coverage up so we see most of Friday's play live. When it comes on this afternoon there will be a lot of matches already over. Instead we get to see live coverage from Puerto Rico. Yippee.

They only have flexibility to alter coverage when it's the LPGA they're screwing over. Contract with PGA Tour says you will cover Puerto Rico. Contract with LPGA says feel free to spend the first 30 minutes of the LPGA time slot recapping the same matches they'd already been recapping for six hours.

It is stupid - but $5.99 for PGA Tour Live isn't bad really.. I'm watching that match and Sergio - Rahm

Although the Thomas - Fitzpatrick is the match I really want to see

Bryson D Shampoo? Really? Sounds like something you would hear on a middle school play ground.

Phil's play has surprised me. I selected DJ to win and Rahm as the horse of darkness.

Regardless it will be fun to watch. Match play is a great format.

You serious Clark? Bryson D Shampoo is one of the best nicknames on Tour at the moment.

I have a Q: If a guy won his first two matches and locked up his group ... could he sit the 3rd match to rest or ????

As usual, pulling for my favorites: Mickelson, Steele and DJ

Steele has been gritty first two matches in the closing holes to tie 1 and win 1
