30 minutes yet, but they are showing the odd shot here and there, mostly keeping track of Phil's match.

When you mix in the withdrawals and everything else, I think the format still isn't quite right. The original aim was to keep the big names in, yet McIlroy, Reed, Matsuyama, Spieth, Thomas all went out anyway, the first three out with a day to go.

 

Yes but they all played three days instead of one. that is the whole idea. the only other option i can think of is 54 holes of stroke play and a match play weekend. It works for the NCAA's.

 

That would be an improvement. A better solution is to eliminate the WGC match play event. Make it medal play.

 

Like we already have for 51 other weeks? Where is the furor against weekend cut in stroke play tournaments?

 

That's totally different. The cut still gets you 70 - 80 players. Match play cuts down to two. While it's fun to watch match play, it's not fun to watch hours of commercials between the shots of two players.

Most drives have been very good (1 or 2 strays per rd)............great swing tempo and smooth with the putter........his game looks solid.

Yes, it's great to see the ever-resilient Phil playing so well at 46. Perhaps he'll make some noise at Augusta.

 

Phil playing well at Augusta would be very fun. I'm just rooting like hell for him at the US Open. Would cement a top 10 career with that grand slam.

That is why it is great to watch it abroad without commercials, you get to see more shots (until there is two left) :taunt:

Phil is super engaged. he loves Pete Dye courses. they 'challenge' him mentally. he gets board with the bomb and gouge courses. no must hit 'targets'. when he has to zone in on each shot, he plays better. although the Masters is 'wide open' you still have to hit your targets. Not like torrey pines, or other wide open courses.
