Rants and Raves...

Recommended Posts

Even so it's still a bit of a gamble if you're buying at distance,a few years ago I spotted a full set of Powerbilt blades and laminated woods and after extra photos and negotiation managed to buy them.

Ladies shafts. :swoon:

I still have them,I'm thinking they might turn out to be useful the way things are going!

You too huh? I'm finding that FM 5.5/Apex 3, etc. are getting to be too much of a load on the back.

Until I read your post I had forgotten that the first two times I ever played golf it was with women's clubs. At least with classics they have some weight to them versus modern ladies clubs that weight like feathers.

My problem is LOFT -- Lack of friggin' talent

As discussed on numerous other threads keep in mind that there are NO Shaft Flex Standards and I have seen many "ladies shafts" play firmer than numerous "senior shafts." Just like the number on the club head makes Zero Difference as only the loft and length matter, so too with shaft flex labels as only the actual frequency, torq, and true stiffness matter. Not what the label calls them.

P.S. Labels can be removed or covered. ;)

Like tattoos - sorry, couldn't help it, and wasn't thinking of you in particular...but, rather some monstrosities I have recently witnessed - please take no offense, except when I comment about the temperature!

Another rant, sorry to crowd the airwaves: this one is directed at the Ben Hogan golf company, for naming a line of shafts and a line of clubs “Apex” cursing any internet searcher who wants apex clubs to comb through every Producer, Medallion, and Magnum that had an Apex shaft installed. I’m surprised there wasn’t a line of Vector clubs just to complete the arrangement.

He's back. The high handicapper who cannot wait to tell his mates he knocked it past a cat 1 player (me)…..while I shot 74 and he picked up one four holes.....For the record I am not, and never have been a long driver.

Back in high school, I hit one about 350 in a tournament. I was pretty excited, and told my coach about it after the round. He quickly responded, "nice bogey." Haha, it makes me laugh thinking about it still.

Anyway, I hope the high handicapper has learned a thing or two from playing with you. Nice round!

Cheers for England's Paul Casey! …

Jeers for Justin (It's all about the money) Rose...

https://www.golfchan...ags=golf1304000

In fairness to Rose it's a tough call.I agree with the 'Nays',the Saudi's have been sponsors of terrorist groups for years essentially to cover their own backsides but there are also large numbers of companies who are happy to waive any scruples they might have in order to do business with Saudi Arabia.

I guess the bottom line is this; if Justin said "No" would the rest of them reconsider and change their minds or would the first alternate player be packing his bags?

The most ridiculous statement concerning this came from Paul Waring who said that by going he would have the opportunity to see things for himself.Does this mean that he will make a fact finding tour when not on the course or by the pool? How much does he think the Saudis would permit him to see?

The BBC journalist Frank Gardner was shot in Riyadh and his cameramen shot dead despite having official 'minders'.

One of the main issues is that the European Tour are frightened that if they withdrew the PGA Tour would jump in.

I'm pleased for Justin after all the crap thrown about his equipment change, the boy done good.

Why do airlines assess fees on golf clubs for the sake of them being golf clubs? On one airline, the cost of a checked bag is $20 for my flight. The cost of a ”sports equipment: golf clubs” is $50. My clubs in their case are smaller than the regular baggage dimension limits, and weigh less than the weight limit, so it’s not the size that’s the issue. Im not concerned with damage (in a hard plastic case you’d have to try pretty hard to do anything to them), so liability is kind of flimsy.

Why does the airline decide that 14 funny looking ingots of metal glued to 14 pieces of extruded steel tubing and 14 little plastic rings, taped to 14 rubber sleeves will pay a 300% premium? Hell if I described the contents of my bag that way to the gate agents I doubt “golf clubs” would pop into their heads. And then they have the nerve to say that if I pay this extra charge, I can pack no more than “one golf bag with 14 clubs, 12 balls, and one pair of golf shoes” in that bag. THE H*** I CAN’T! If I give you an extra arbitrary $30 for my clubs, you’re not seeing a cent more because I happen to want clothing when I arrive at my destination, if it fits.

So yeah, my clubs are going as just normal baggage, and I’ll get away with it too because I have before and I will again. Because one thing the airlines fail to realize is the poor clerk at the ticket counter in (city Im flying out of) doesn’t actually care what is in the bag, and is not going to check. “Materials for a business/academic presentation” hold no such restrictions, and that is what I am carrying in the bag should anyone care enough to ask.

Sorry folks, really irked there after a call to the airline customer service. Rant over.

(In seriousness, if anyone has an idea as to why my plan might be a bad decision, let me know. I feel at best I save $30 each way, at worst I pay the fee. If in a few months the NTSB report says “well if 28a had just declared his golf clubs, this wouldn’t have happened” then have an auction amongst yourselves for my Apex ‘99s)

Which airline? I'm traveling soon and many airlines seem to just charge the checked bag rate assuming the dimensions and weight don't exceed the limits.

Not Finnair, I take it? If I fly via Helsinki from Japan to the UK, for example, I am allowed 2 pieces of baggage, and have limit of 23kg. That's flying basic economy, by the way.

Norwegian Air. Until now I’ve flown them many times without an ill word to say.. Finnair from Helsinki to London was double the Norwegian price for my dates, and I would have to purchase baggage separately. Most other airlines make the ticket unaffordable for me, let alone with my sticks. I’m not too worried about it, because I have used the same bag as a piece of normal luggage before, and it had the clubs in it. (Without knowing I wasn’t allowed to do so) Reading Norwegian’s policies, they charge extra for skis, snowboards, fishing rods, musical instruments, etc. Which is kind of silly to me.

I think Finnair has a similar policy on short haul flights, but on the long haul flights, the rules are relaxed. Incidentally, Finnair rates from Japan to the UK were pretty competitive last August (late August). They were cheaper than Korean Air, Singapore Air, ANA, and JAL for me.
