Whats the biggest score difference between two rounds you've ever shot?

Recommended Posts

I'm gonna drop mine before reading any other entry in this thread. get it off my chest before you guys make me feel even worse...

I shot a 7-over 79 at Albert Park, Melbourne just after New Year's a few months ago (and following two very fruitful lessons with Martin Ridgeway) and then proceeded to blast a plus-32 104 in a return to my 'home' course, Alta Vista in Cebu, Phils. four days later.

I still haven't broken 90 at Alta Vista after playing it nearly 30 times in the last calendar year.

So, basically, I suck.

Shot 90, 88 and then 76 on 3 consecutive days last weekend at Tenby Golf Club, Wales. Proper old-fashioned links course and the wind was different on all three days. Great experience.

I'm sure Alta Vista is much nicer and harder than Albert Park!

My worst was a 72 followed by an 88. This was in a 36 hole tournament, same course, same day. I was leading after the first 18 then proceeded to shoot my highest round since I was like 15 years old. Could've shot the same score left handed.

I went 90 76 on the same day in Scottsdale last year.

Even better, back in 2009, I went 53 36 on the front and back. That’s what a crazy hangover can do.

Last year I started taking lessons..... and things were going in a positive way. Then i took a lesson and things went haywire for a month. I shot a 74 one day. Took a lesson a few days later...and the next weekend shot 89. It was horrendous. Even worse because it continued for 3 weeks until I went back and looked at my previous lessons and completely pushed the latest lesson out of my mind.

This is a great golf concept to understand! I play par golf and not sure of my score difference but sure its at least 20 strokes lol....

But I use this concept to explain how strange golf is to my non golfing friends that expect me to play good every time.... I tell em Number 1 in world can shoot 10 under one day then 5 over the next and everyone that knows golf accepts this as "normal" in golf that never really happens in other sports, but thats part of what makes golf so awesome!

Can't figure how to like my own posts

Not consecutive rounds, but I shot 96 and 77 on the same course last year. Sounds extreme to me but it’s about a stroke a hole, in that light it seems more plausible. However, I resumed golf after a 15+ year layoff last summer. I’ll be surprised and disappointed if I card a 96 on my worst day this season (starting soon).

I am hoping its going to be tomorrow! Had a nightmare today in the first 18 of a two day 36 hole stroke play event. After piping a drive down the center of each of the forst three fairways I started bogey, bogey, bogey then proceeded to 4 putt the 12th hole for a 79. My low of the tees today is a 66 so we need one of those tomorrow which would be a 13 shot swing.

The only round that sticks in my mind.....(difference of 2 nines vs. 2 full rounds).

I shot a 49-36 about 10 years ago. Played the back nine first which was tougher....but just had a complete 180 change in between the two.

It was the first time I shot par on nine holes ever, roller coaster day!

  • 2 weeks later...

About 20 years ago, I had just finished a cricket season and hadn't picked up a club in about 8 months. Not a swing or even a putt at home. I was playing off a 1 handicap at the time, but I'm the type of player that needs a ton of course play before I'm any good. Anyway, I get a call on the night before one of the biggest amateur tournaments in the country (played every year at my home club) saying there had been a couple of withdrawals, and whether I wanted to play. It's 4 rounds strokeplay. After some hesitation I said yes.

Needless to say, it was horrendous. Was paired with one of the best amateurs going around at the time (went on to turn pro) and he was pretty much laughing at how bad I played. Shot 89...to show you how bad I hit it, I only had 26 putts!

I was tempted to WD, but thought I had better go on with it, seeing as I was invited.

Next round, I start off double, triple! Just about ready to walk off when a mate of mine shows up and carts my bag for the rest of the round. We just started having a laugh and cracking some jokes. I ended up playing the last 16 holes -5 to shoot a 72. Missed a 5 footer on the last to break par.

Anyway, I'm glad I played because it's given me some good talking points over the years. So a 17 shot turnaround is my biggest score difference.

Many years ago, I shot a 68 on one of my favorite Tucson courses and walked around with an idiot grin on my face at work for days. The next weekend, same course, shot 79.

Just one of those days when nothing went right. Kinda brought me back down to earth in a hurry. ;)

Shot a 78 on Wednesday at a course I had never played before. It was just a short course, even from the championship tees, and I was able to hit a driving iron off most tees and still have a wedge or 9 iron in.

Following Saturday at same course, proceed to shoot a 101. Hit one fairway with the driving iron, two with my driver, and had so many bad breaks I almost put all my clubs for sale on the BST as soon as I got home.
