Monty... what a player!

I know it is US Open fever but recently youtubed Monty in his prime and also watched the vlog with Crossfield. What a player! I don t want this to be a hall of fame or major discussion.. just want marvel at how simple but effective his game was. Hit it one way,fairways and greens and scored well. Could learn a lot from him. Not a shotmaker or the most gifted but a brilliant golfer nonetheless..

Just thinking about the 2006 US Open and his double bogey at the last gives me pains in my stomach. I still blame Vijay for taking so long over his shot...that is handy as well, because I have never liked Vijay so being able to have him as the villain of this piece is useful.

Awesome golfer. His personality didn't favor him in the least with fans and the media. When you get to the top you must include the fans as part of your success. They are supporters of an athlete's career. If you're cranky and are always bitching and moaning fans will get tired of it. Monty never cared about the subtle aspects of being a sport celebrity. He is still paying the price.

Yeah, I don't think I've ever seen a grumpier player in person than Monty, permanent scowl. I like him a lot as a commentator, and seems fine off the course but you didn't want to get in his way on the course.

I always liked how Monty's pre-tournament interviews were great and then he'd play the first round and his switch would flip.

 

His Tiger comments at the 97 Masters were priceless.....and then he'd played with him.

To me, Montys game has always been a work of art...

Still, his golf play was eclipsed by his Diva manners. Luckily, you don't see guys behave like him or Howard Clark nowadays towards the crowds. Good thing with social media.
