Struggle for Stenson and Rory today.

Imagine that the wind will continue to pick up over the course of this afternoon so this morning would have been the time to post a score.

RF and Poulter naysayers where ya' at? For all the work RM is putting in he is still peeking at putts for sure. Today I think the nasty Pittsburgh colors got him!

It's one of these daft golf things but even standing over putts, it doesn't look like Rory is going to hole it and he knows it. Contrast that with Spieth or even Rahm last week. Every time he was over a putt it looked like it was going in.

Is he still working with Phil Kenyon? He really seemed to get McIlroy's putting back on track, but it's clearly deserted him again.

I'm sure that he has been working with him the last few weeks. Certain that I saw a picture of the two of them on the practice putting green at Dundonald on Monday. It was just the two of them and three putters.

Well that's somewhat heartening.

McIlroy needs to go for a Edel putter fitting. You'd think with all the equipment at his disposal he'd be able to find a putter that actually fits him and suits his aiming tendencies.

A lot of 3-5 footers being missed out there. This isn't the PGA Tour where they put the holes on flat spots.

Having played it, there aren't many flat spots on any of these greens.

I totally agree...been that way for a while. Those putts he holed to win FedEx are way off in the distance at this point in time. Interesting I am streaming coverage and you can hear TV trailer talking to the guys(announcers) before switching players/holes.

I'll take Paul Dunne. He's #29 in the Race to Dubai, but he hasn't qualified for next week's British Open yet.

Dunne... I have never come across a player with an air of rugged Irishness as he has. I could see him blowing up statues of English kings in Dublin...Not the chatty beer drinking Irishness of McIlroy or McDowell even though he might have that as a civilian.

Ironic since they're both from Northern Ireland where the actual troubles were...

I know it's only Thursday and not a huge crowd, but it's been a pleasure to watch the coverage and not hear "get in the hole!" on every tee shot.

Agree wholeheartedly

Fair opening round for AS today, nice to see him back with a "conventional" putting grip, a few sloppy holes away from an excellent round. Rory's struggles are surprising but much like late last year I believe he'll find form on the greens and start contending again quickly.

OK, you Irish fellows here correct me, but the "troubles" goes waaay back earlier than in the 60-s. When you're in Dublin it's not like the presence of the english having been there is non-existent. When you go on the main streets there are statues of freedom fighters, people gather at the general post office to see bullet holes from 1916. But more, walking the streets of Dublin is very much a different experince of walking anything in London. Most of all the people. I feel 10 times more at home in Dublin compared to London.

Dont get me wrong, I have worked with tons of Irish colleagues during the years, and as a group I have not met friendlier and more easygoing people. But there is a ruggedness i do recognise. Ireland has not always been the richest country in Europe, and central scandinavia neither.

Wow, seeing all those links courses in close proximity makes me want to book a Scotland trip.

Can play Dundonald and the two Gailes courses, accommodation etc for £300-400, well worth doing. 50 odd courses in the one region. Turnberry and Troon are the obvious ones but lots of great lesser known courses for probably a quarter of the budget.
